The admissions to Ph.D. degree programme will be based on the merit at an ‘All India Entrance Test’.

All candidates, including those who have UGC/CSIR, NET-JRF, SET/SLET qualification, or AICTE/ Teacher Fellowship or ICMR, DST, DBT fellowship, etc. will also have to appear for ‘All India Entrance test’ for BVP Ph.D Admission 2014.

The University will conduct ‘All India Entrance test’ for Ph.D. programmes. The Entrance test will consist of one theory paper based on the postgraduate level syllabus of the concerned subject.

BVP Ph.D Admission 2014 Eligibility and Rules

Rules and Regulations for Ph.D. Programme

  1. These rules and regulations shall be called Bharati Vidyapeeth Deemed University Rules 2014-14.
  2. They shall be applicable to all the Ph.D. programmes offered by Bharati Vidyapeeth Deemed University.
  3. These rules are framed in consonance with UGC Regulation 2009 (Minimum Standard and Procedure for Award of Ph.D. Degree) and subsequent notifications.

ELIGIBILITY:

For admission to a Ph.D. programme in a subject under concerned faculty, or in any allied subject the applicant shall fulfill the following conditions:

  1. Candidate must have secured a minimum of 55% marks (50% marks for SC/students category) or equivalent grade point at Post Graduate degree examination or its equivalent examination in a relevant subject of any Statutory University.
  2. The fellow members of the Institute of Chartered Accounts and / or Institute of Cost and Works Accounts and / or having qualification of C.S. shall be held eligible for registration for Ph.D. in the concerned subject under the faculty of Commerce, provided that they possess a Bachelors Degree of any Statutory University. Such candidate should have at least 5 years professional experience.
  3. Persons working in National Laboratories/Institutes/ Government/ Private Organization nominated/ sponsored by the respective employer. These persons should have a post Graduate Degree and holding rank of Assistant Director / or above, will have to appear for ‘All India Entrance Test’ and will have to produce “No Objection Certificate” from the employer.
  4. The presently existing rules of eligibility prescribed by various statutory councils will also be applicable for admission to Ph.D. programmes of this University.
  5. In exceptional circumstances, a person who is holding a senior position in a government service, or has been in any profession for atleast 10 years, or made significant contribution in different fields such as Education, Law, Health, Trade, Commerce, Industry etc, may also be considered eligible for direct admission to Ph.D. programme.

REGISTRATION FOR Ph.D. PROGRAMME AS AN INDEPENDENT CANDIDATE:

If the proposed research does not involve laboratory work, the candidate will be allowed to register himself / herself for Ph. D. programme, to do the research on his/her own and to prepare the thesis without having a Research Supervisor/Guide provided, he/she

  1. is having a minimum of ten years teaching / professional experience in a college, university or professional institution / organization,
  2. is having minimum of five publications in indexed journals to his / her credit and
  3. gives an adequate evidence of his / her abilities and expertise to do the Ph.D. work independently, which will be assessed by a committee of at least two experts appointed by the University.

BVP Ph.D Admission 2014 Procedure for Admission

ALL INDIA ENTRANCE TEST:
The admissions to Ph.D. degree programme will be based on the merit at an ‘All India Entrance Test’. The University shall notify, on its website, (www.bvuniversity.edu.in or www.bharatividyapeethuniversity.net) available for its Ph.D. programmes. the facultywise and subjectwise number of seats

The University will conduct ‘All India Entrance test’ for Ph.D. programmes. The Entrance test will consist of one theory paper based on the postgraduate level syllabus of the concerned subject.

  1. The weightage for the written test and viva-voce examination will be 80% and 20%, respectively.
  2. Candidate will have to score a minimum 50% of marks to qualify for admission to a Ph.D. programme.
  3. A merit list of the candidates will be prepared based on their aggregate score at the written test and the viva- voce.
  4. Based on the performance at the All India Entrance Test, two separate Merit Lists will be prepared, one for those with NET/SET qualification and the second for other candidates.
  5. The facultywise /subjectwise merit list will be displayed on the University website and also on the notice board.
  6. The candidates will be given admissions to a Ph.D. degree programme according to their inter-se-merit and the seats available in the subject concerned. Only a pre-determined number of candidates, as announced in the brochure, shall be admitted to Ph.D. degree programme.
  7. For each subject 40% of the seats will be filled by the candidates with NET/SET qualification. The remaining 60% of the seats as well as any seats left vacant from the above 40% will be filled by the other candidates with no NET/SET qualification.
  8. Over and above the total seats notified by the University, additional seats to the extent of 20% may be filled by the Foreign/NRI/PIO candidates provided such candidates appear for an interview. At the interview the area of research interest of the candidate will be discussed. After successful interview, he/she will be admitted to Ph.D. programme subject to the fulfillment of other conditions of eligibility.

The candidate who qualifies himself / herself at the “Entrance Test” will have to appear for an interview in which the area of his / her research interest will be discussed and he/she will be admitted to Ph.D. programme provisionally subject to fulfillment of other conditions of eligibility.

ALLOCATION OF RESEARCH GUIDE/SUPERVISOR:

The allocation of the supervisor for a selected student shall be decided by the Department in a formal manner depending on the number of student per faculty member, the available specialization among the faculty supervisors, and the research interest of the student as indicated during interview by the student. The allotment/allocation of supervisor shall not be left to the individual student or teacher.

  • The University may allot a Co-guide to the student depending upon the nature of research topic.
  • Change of Guide: In an exceptional situation, the Vice Chancellor may permit change of Guide on request either by the Student or the Guide.

The candidate declared as qualified for admission shall have to submit a duly filled in prescribed application form for admission to the Ph.D. programme along with the prescribed fees and the following documents.

  1. An authenticated copies of statement of marks and degree certificates (Graduate, Post- graduate degree, M.Phil. Net / Set etc.)
  2. Migration/ Transference certificate; and
  3. NOC and Experience Certificate issued by the Head of the concerned National laboratory, government research institute, registered private organization having prescribed qualification wi11 have to submit “No Objection Certificate” and authenticated copy of certificate of professional experience along with documents mentioned above in a) and b).

COURSEWORK:

The candidate admitted to Ph.D. programme shall complete one semester Pre-Ph.D. course work. The Pre Ph.D. course work will consists of three courses, namely:

  1. A course on Research Methodology and ICT for research
  2. Specialized course in the subject of research.
  3. Literature survey and the review of the work done earlier on the topic of research presentation.

There will be a written examination of 100 marks each for the first two courses mentioned above. For the third course, the student has to give two presentations based on the literature survey, which will carry 50 marks each. The candidate shall submit copies of the presentations to the respective Head of the Constituent Unit.

First presentation will be conducted by the Research Centre at which the candidate is admitted. The second presentation will be conducted in the presence of an external examiner and other members of the committee appointed by the University.

If necessary, the course work prescribed by the University will be permitted to be carried out by the candidate in a sister Department/Institute either within or outside the University.

REGISTRATION TO THE Ph.D. DEGREE PROGRAMME:

I. After satisfactory completion of the course work, the student shall submit five copies of his/her Ph.D. research proposal to the University.

II. The University will constitute the Research & Recognition Committee (R & R. Committee) consisting of:

  1. Dean of concerned Faculty
  2. Head of the Institution
  3. One subject expert (nominated by Vice chancellor)
  4. Head of the concerned Department
  5. Research Guide

and the committee will consider and approve the topic of research selected by the student.

III) The student admitted to the Ph.D. course may be given some teaching assignment during the course of research.

The student will not be allowed to submit his thesis before completion of minimum two years from the date of his final registration and successful completion of Pre-Ph.D. course work.

The registration will be valid for five years from the date of final registration, If the student fails to submit his/her thesis within this period he/she will be given an extension for one more year on his/her request. If he fails to submit his/her thesis even within the extended period, his/her registration will stand cancelled and he/she will have to reregister.

CHANGE IN TITLE OF THESIS:

The candidate may be permitted to make changes in the title of his / her research with prior permission of the University on the recommendations of the Guide / Supervisor. However, such a change in title may be permitted only once and that too, at least within a period of one year before submission of thesis.

SUBMISSION OF THESIS:

The registered student shall submit through his/ her guide six monthly progress reports as per schedule.

In addition to submission of six monthly progress report, the student shall have to make at least three presentations before the committee appointed by the University, highlighting the progress made in the research work.

  1. The student shall submit to the University four copies of synopsis of his / her thesis at least three months prior to the submission of his / her thesis.
  2. The Ph.D. student shall have to publish at least one paper in a referred journal based on his/her Ph.D. research before the submission of the thesis and produce evidence for the same in the form of acceptance letter or a reprint.
  3. The student should submit four printed / type written / photo copies of the thesis duly recommended and endorsed by his/her guide / supervisor to the University along with two soft copies.
  4.  The thesis should contain a declaration from the student in the prescribed format.
  5. The thesis should contain a declaration from the candidates saying that the work presented is his own original work and has not been submitted earlier for an award of any degree or for publication. It should be clearly mentioned in the declaration that whatever material has been borrowed from other sources and incorporated in the thesis has been duly acknowledged. It should be specifically mentioned in the declaration that the candidate himself could be held responsible and accountable for plagiarism, if any, detected later on.

If any dispute arises regarding the interpretation of any of the above rules, the matter shall be referred to the Vice Chancellor and his / her decision shall be final and binding on all concerned.
