In order to prepare for the exam, the candidate should have an understanding of the exam pattern. Detailed exam pattern can be checked from below.
- The exam will be the Computer Based Test (CBT).
- The candidate will get 2 hours to complete the exam.
- For every correct answer, the candidate will be awarded 4 marks. For every, incorrect answer, 1 mark will be deducted.
- Questions which will be there multiple-choice questions. There will be a total of 200 questions, which are divided into 3 sections.
Section A (20 MCQs): The questions are based on general knowledge in the domain of Agriculture, Animal Husbandry, Dairying, Fisheries, and Allied Sciences, etc.
Section B (50 MCQs): This section questions are based on the core group subjects in Ph.d.

Answer Key is released by NTA on its official website for candidates who are looking for admission into JRF and SRF (PhD programme). Candidates are able to check it with the help of Student Login. NTA will provide a facility of raising objection against the Answer Key. The candidate can evaluate their performance by cross-checking their answers and calculate their probable score. There are two type of answer key which are released one is unofficial and the other is official, the unofficial answer key is released just after the exam while the official answer key is released as per the scheduled date. The candidate who has cleared the Examination will be called for the next round which is counselling.
