AILET 2020
NLU offers the total number of 80 seats in B.A.LL.B. (Hons.) and 40 in L.L.M as per last year’s admission notification. For the PhD course, the number of seats is notified as per the availability of teachers in the university to teach PhD Scholars. Exam Pattern for LLB
The focus of questions in LLM is on subject of law like Criminal Law, Constitutional Law, Law of Contract, Jurisprudence, Law of Tort and International Law etc.
Exam Pattern for PhD
- Number of Questions: There are a total number of 100 Questions
- Duration: The exam is of 90 minutes in duration.
- Questions: The questions will be based on Research Methodology and Legal Research Aptitude.
Marking Scheme: Each Question carries 1 mark. There is a negative marking of 0.25 marks.

How to Prepare for AILET 2020?
For all the aspiring candidates, we have prepared few tips and tricks for the preparation of AILET 2020.
- Start with a Plan: Take every step with a plan. First of all, the candidate should start through the syllabus for the exam and divide the topics accordingly.
- Solve Previous Year’s Question Papers: The previous year’s question papers are best for practice. Candidates become faster in solving questions of they make a habit of solving last year’s papers. This helps in efficiency and effectiveness.
- Read Newspapers: Read a newspaper daily. It will increase the candidate’s general knowledge as well as vocabulary. Candidate can also make a timeline of recent events under different categories and keep revising it.
- Ace your English: Practice English from the basic. Refer the best books only (you can check it out from this page). Don’t underestimate the English section of the question paper and practice nicely for that.
- Do Not Fear the Mathematics: Maths always looks scary but it can be better with practice only. Start your preparation from the basic level first. And practice it daily. AILET 2020 Eligibility Criteria
Candidates can check the eligibility criteria from below.
For BA.LL.B (Hons) Qualification and Marks: Candidate must have passed 12th class or an equivalent examination with at least 50% marks in aggregate.
For L.L.M: Candidate should have passed LL.B. or an equivalent degree from a recognised University with at least 55% marks on aggregate (50% in case of SC/ST/Persons with Disability).
For PhD Programme
- Candidate should have passed L.L.M or its equivalent with at least 55% marks on aggregate (50% in case of SC/ST/Persons with Disability) or,
- Candidate should possess a degree in law and Master’s Degree with M. Phil. in social sciences or humanities or,
- Candidate should possess a degree in law and Master’s Degree from a foreign institute, considered equivalent to M.Phil. Degree of an Indian Institution or,
- Candidate should possess a degree in law or PhD in any discipline or,
- Candidate should have an experience as a judge in any State High Court in India with three years’ experience or Judge of Supreme Court of India.
AILET 2020 Application Form
To appear for the entrance exam, candiadtes have to fill the application form online. First of all, candidates have to register and then proceed to ill-in details in the AILET application form. Along with the submission of application form, candidates have to make the payment of the application fee.

Mode of Payment: The AILET application fee can be submitted via given-below two methods.
- Offline mode – Cash Deposit at Post Office.
- Online mode – By Debit Card/ Credit Card/ Net Banking.
How to Apply for AILET 2020?
Step 1: First of all, candidates have to register themselves by providing in details such as name, phone number, mobile number, date of birth, gender, father’s name, mother’s name, country, mobile number, etc.
Step 2: Then, click on the “create account” button to proceed for the main application form.
Step 3: Select the course for which you eish to apply and then fill the application form by giving personal details, educational and qualification details, communication details and so on.
Step 4: Then, upload the images, choose the exam centre and click on the “Save/ Continue to Payment” button.
Step 5: In the last, make the payment of the application fee. A message is received by the candidate on successful payment and an acknowledgement slip is generated on successful payment of the fee.
Image Specification for AILET 2020 Application Form
Candidate shall attach the scanned copy of the photo in the prescribed format.
- Candidate’s photo must contain 75% of the candidate’s face.
- The size of the image shall not exceed 150 kb.
- It should be in JPG/ GIF/ BMP file format.

There are a total number of 80 Seats available for B.A.L.L.B (70 Seats on the basis of AILET 2020 merit list and 10 seats for direct admission to Foreign Nationals on merit (5 seats for Foreign Nationals and 5 Seats for OCI/ PIO)
LL.M
In LLM, 80 Seats (70 Seats on the basis of AILET 2020 merit list and 10 seats for direct admission to Foreign Nationals on merit (5 seats for Foreign Nationals and 5 Seats for OCI/ PIO)
PhD – A total number of 8 Seats are available in the PhD Programme. It may also vary.
AILET 2020 Admit Card
NLU releases the AILET 2020 Admit card as per the schedule on the official website. To download the admit card, candidates require their email id and password. No hard copy of the AILET 2020 admit card is sent to the candidates via post. The conducting body releases notice for release of AILET admit card 2020 once the application process is over and a download link is provided on the notice. Candidates must report at the allotted test centre along with the hard copy of the admit card.

AILET 2020 Answer key
NLU releases the answer key after conducting the entrance exam. It is released on the official website in the pdf format. The keys consist of the correct answers to the questions that were asked in the exam. With the assistance of the AILET 2020 answer key, candidates can estimate their raw or probable score. Marking scheme of AILET has to be followed while doing so.
Making Scheme of AILET 2020
- Candidate shiuld add one (1) mark for every correct answer.
- In case of incorrect answer, candidate should deduct 0.25 from the total score.
The university also provides the opportunity to the candidates to submit the challenges against the Answer key in any case of discrepancy. Based on the changes made in the Answer key, the university prepares a Merit list of all the qualified candidates.
AILET 2020 Result
NLU releases the AILET 2020 result based on the final answer key. Candidates can check the result through the official website. Candidates can check their score in the result. A merit list is prepared bu the institute based on the candidate’s marks in the entrance test. Those whose names are there in the merit list are called for the counselling round.

AILET 2020 Counselling
The counselling is held soon after the result releases as per the previous year’s exam session. Counselling is only held for B.LL.B (Hons) and LL.M. selected candidates. PhD candidates have to go through a series of selection procedure to get admission into the university. On spot, counselling is conducted for LL.M candidates only. The university sends the call letters to all the qualified candidates individually via email and speed post for admission.

About National Law University, Delhi
The National Law University (NLU) is situated in Dwarka, New Delhi. It was established in 2008 by Act No. 1 of NCT Delhi with the initiative of the High Court of Delhi. It offers undergraduate, postgraduate and PhD programmes to all students. The university was ranked second in the NIRF law ranking in the year 2019. NLU conducts the All India Law Entrance Test (AILET) et a National level for admission into BA.LL.B (Hons), L.L.M and PhD programme.
