Eligibility Criteria

M.E. programmes (MEC – PG1):

Candidates must hold a B.E. / B.Tech / AMIE or equivalent degree in the appropriate disciplines / branches mentioned below for the respective courses. Candidates must have minimum 55% marks in average (50% for SC/ST) in graduation.

Candidates should preferably be GATE 2016 / GATE 2017 qualified. Non-GATE candidates may also apply. However, their applications will be considered only after applicants who have qualified in GATE have been considered, interviewed.

M. Pharm programme (MEC – PG2)

Candidates must hold a B.Pharm degree from a PCI and AICTE approved Institute. Candidates must have minimum 55% marks in average (50% for SC/ST) in graduation.

Candidates should preferably be GPAT 2017 qualified. Non-GPAT candidates may also apply. However, their applications will be considered only after applicants who have qualified in GPAT have been considered, interviewed (for details, please see the selection procedure).

M.Tech programmes (MEC – PG3)

Candidates must hold Either a

a) B.E. / B.Tech / AMIE / MCA / equivalent degree in the appropriate disciplines / branches mentioned below for the respective courses, with a minimum 55% marks in average (50% for SC/ST) in graduation / MCA.
OR
b) M.Sc. / M.A. degree or equivalent in the appropriate disciplines / branches mentioned below for the respective courses with 55% (50% for SC/ST), after graduating with a Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent qualification in 10+2+3 system from a recognized University.

Candidates should preferably be GATE 2016 / GATE 2017 qualified. Non-GATE candidates may also apply. However, their applications will be considered only after applicants who have qualified in GATE have been considered, interviewed.

Master in Urban Planning (MUP) programme (MEC – PG4)

Candidates must hold Either a

B.Arch / B.Planning or equivalent or B.E. in Civil Engineering with minimum 55% marks in average (50% for SC/ST) in graduation.
OR
M.A. / M.Sc. degree or equivalent in Geography, Economics, Sociology or Statistics with 55% marks (50% for SC/ST) after graduating with a Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent qualification in 10+2+3 system from a recognized University.

Candidates should preferably be GATE 2016 / GATE 2017 qualified. Non-GATE candidates may also apply. However, their applications will be considered only after applicants who have qualified in GATE have been considered, interviewed.

M.Sc. programmes offered at BIT Mesra (MEC – PG5):

Candidates of B.Sc. / B.A. Honours must have minimum 55% marks in average (50% for SC/ST) in their Honours subject. Candidates of other graduate courses must have minimum 55% marks in average (50% for SC/ST) in graduation.

Application Form

Before filling and submitting your application form online, you are advised to carefully read the eligibility conditions for admission to the programme and satisfy yourself that you fulfil all the eligibility conditions.

Note:

  • The candidate may use one application form to apply for ONLY one program – M.E. or M.Pharm or M.Tech or MUP or M.Sc. etc, and ONLY one discipline within that program – for example only M.E. in Mechanical or only M.Tech in Computer Science & Engineering or only M.Sc. in Biotechnology.
  • However, one application form can be used to apply for various specializations within some M.E. programs (within a department) & within the M.Pharm program, and in the case of ME (ECE- Wireless Communication) and M.Tech (Computer Science & Engineering) programs, you may also use one application form to apply for different Places for Study (Center), in order of preference.
  • Please use separate application form(s) to apply for two or more programs.
  • All candidates in their own interest should keep photocopies of their completed forms for their own reference..

Selection Procedure

Selection Procedures for the M.Tech programs:

GATE qualified candidates: Provisional selections to the M.Tech programmes will
be on the basis of scores obtained in GATE 2015 / GATE 2016 / GATE 2017, previous academic
record and personal interviews/counselling, provided that the candidates fulfill the eligibility criteria.

Non-GATE candidates: Provisional selections of Non-GATE candidates will be on the basis of written
interviews/counselling test, previous aced interviews/counselling, provided that the candidates
for  these fulfill the eligibility criteria. However, their admission will be considered only after applicants who ave qualified in GATE 2015 / GATE 2016 / GATE 2017 have been considered and admitted, subject to the availability of seats. There will be no seats for these candidates. Syllabus of the test will be same as for GATE.

Counselling

The schedule of tests and counselling for the M.E., M.Tech and MUP programs 2018 of the Institute will be given below. Those candidates who have applied and are eligible for the respective programs should come for counselling of GATE qualified candidates and tests and counselling of Non-GATE candidates on the scheduled date which are yet to be announced. The lists of eligible candidates called for tests and counselling will be uploaded on the Institute website after the results are declared.

SPOT Admission

SPOT Admission against few vacant seats in different categories as indicated below for the following full-time postgraduate [M.E. / M.Pharm. / M.Tech, MUP and M.Sc.] programmes of the Institute, for the session 2018-19 will be conducted as per the schedule which isn’t declared yet. Interested and eligible candidates may report for spot admission.

How to Apply:

To apply for the above program against vacant seats, eligible candidates must download and print the Application Form, and bring the completed form along with two recent colour photographs (one pasted on the form), originals and photocopies of all mark sheets and certificates and a crossed Demand Draft of Rs.2,500/- (General) and Rs.1,500/- (SC/ST) candidates (non-refundable) towards application fee in favor of “Birla Institute of Technology”, payable at Ranchi, and report as below**.

Note – Candidates, who have applied earlier for any of the program but could not appear for the counselling / Test or not selected, need not make fresh application. However, they must bring photocopy of their application form. They need not make fresh Demand Draft towards application fee. In case, candidates do not have photocopy of their application form, should report at Admission Office at 9:00 am before proceeding to respective Department.

**Eligible candidates should report at the campus as per date & timings mentioned above with completed application form and all relevant certificates and documents in original, and one set of photocopies of each for Spot Registration, Test and counselling, and verification of documents at the office of the respective Head of the Department at Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra, or

Director of its Off Campus: Candidates applying for the M.E. (ECE-Wireless Communication) and M.Tech. (CSE) at BIT Patna campus  should appear for Test and counselling at BIT Patna Campus only.
