GATE 2018 – IIT Guwahati has announced GATE 2018 Result on March 16. Before that, final official answer keys have been released on March 13. All events of GATE 2018 including admit card, answer key, result, have happened one day before its scheduled date. The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2018 was conducted successfully in which close to 10 lakh candidates appeared. A cut off score is fixed for each paper and each category, which is disclosed along with the result. Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2018 is the national level entrance exam conducted by IITs. It leads to admission to (i) Master’s programs and direct Doctoral programs in Engineering / Technology / Architecture and (ii) Doctoral programs in relevant branches of Science, in the institutions supported by the MHRD and other Government agencies. Scorecard of GATE 2018 is also used for PSU recruitment through GATE 2018.

GATE 2018 Result
Candidates can check result of GATE 2018 at GOAPS on March 16, 2018. It can be checked by logging in to GOAPS or the GATE Online Application Processing System. Enter enrollment ID/email address and password to login. The process of normalization is used by IIT Guwahati to calculate score.

GATE 2018 Scorecard
Those who qualify Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) will get scorecards. It contains marks obtained out of 1000. For programs for which exam was held in two sessions, normalized score is given. The scorecard of GATE 2018 will be released on March 20, 2018, and will be available until May 31, 2018. Candidates who want to get scorecard after May 31, 2018, can do so by paying Rs 500 until December 31, 2018.
GATE Cutoff 2018
Qualifying marks or cutoff of GATE 2018 is indicated in scorecard. Cut off is different for each paper and category. It usually varies between 21 to 40. Only such candidates who obtain marks equal to or more than cut off score will get scorecards.
Competition to get admission in IITs, NITs, and other colleges mark another cut off. Candidates can check past year IIT, NIT M.Tech cutoffs to get an idea about whether score will fetch them a seat.
Cutoffs are also published by PSUs for recruitment through GATE 2018.

GATE 2018 Answer Key
IIT Guwahati released answer key of GATE 2018 on February 19, 2018. Prior to that, candidate response sheets were released on February 15, 2018, using which candidates could check their submitted answers. Candidates could submit challenges against answer keys from February 21, 2018, to February 23, 2018. Decision upon final answer keys will be as per GATE organizing body.

Candidates can apply for PSU recruitment through GATE result 2018. Separate application forms have to be submitted for each PSU. GATE COAP 2018
Common Offer Acceptance Portal 2018 will be the common platform to get admission in M.Tech program in all IITs. All participating Indian Institute of Technology will offer admission through this common counselling process.
Indian nationals with a valid GATE 2018 / 2017 / 2016 score can register for GATE COAP 2018. One has to register at COAP in addition to applying for admissions in IITs.
Registration at COAP for GATE 2018 will require i) Name, ii) GATE Registration number(s), iii) GATE score(s), iv) Date of birth, v) Email ID, vi) Mobile number.
Centralized Counselling for M.Tech (CCMT) 2018 will be organized for joint admission and counselling to NITs, IIITs, CFTIs. There are 40 participating institutes which offer admission to M.Tech, M.Arch, M.Plan, M.Des. CCMT is an online admission process for all participating institutes. Its important features are admission process, schedule, process flow chart, contact details which are conveyed through information brochure.
- Registration – Candidates need to register online for CCMT 2018.
- Choice filling – Candidates also need to fill choices across all participating institutes.
- Choice locking – After selecting choices, one has to also lock them before last date.
- Online seat allotment – Candidates are allotted seats on basis of their GATE 2018 result and choices filled.
Those who get a seat offer need to accept it on time and pay fee for it to college that has offered seat.

GATE Online Application Processing System is portal where aspirants apply, download admit card, check result. Here they can also check application status. Enrolment ID, registration ID and date of birth are login credentials for GOAPS. For GATE 2018, GOAPS is at IIT Guwahati website of GATE exam at gate.iitg.ac.in.
GATE Application Form 2018
GATE 2018 application form was released online. Eligible candidates were required to do register from the GOAPS. The registration for GATE 2018 generated a GOAPS Enrollment ID and Password, which the candidates can now use to Login.
Eligibility Criteria of GATE
- Those who have any of the following degrees can apply for GATE 2018.
- BE / B.Tech / B.Pharma 4 years after 10+2 or 3 years after B.Sc / Diploma in engineering
- B.Sc (Research) / B.S.
- M.Sc / MA / MCA or equivalent masters degree in any branch of science / mathematics / statistics / computer applications or equivalent
- Integrated ME / M.Tech post B.Sc
- Integrated M.Sc or Integrated BS-MS
- Professional society exams that are equivalent to BE / B.Tech / B.Arch
- There is no age limit.
- Year of qualifying qualifying exam should be no later than 2018 for BE / B.Tech / B.Pharm / B.Arch / B.Sc Research / B.S. / M.Sc / MA / MCA / Integrated M.Sc / Integrated BS-MS.
- Year of qualifying qualifying exam should be no later than 2019 for Integrated ME / M.Tech of Dual Degree after Diploma or 10+2, and 2020 for Integrated ME / M.Tech post B.Sc.
GATE Admit Card 2018
The admit card for GATE 2018 was released on January 04, 2018, The applicants were able to download the admit card online. No candidate was sent admit card by post. The candidates were able to download it by entering Enrollment Number/ Email ID and Password. It was important that the candidates should carry the printed copy of the GATE Admit Card to the exam center. The admit card was to be printed on an A4 size paper using a laser printer preferably color. Apart from the GATE Admit Card 2018, the candidate also had to carry an original valid photo ID proof among Passport, PAN Card, Voter ID, Aadhaar-UID, College ID, Employee ID and Driving License on the day of the exam to test center.
GATE Exam Pattern
It is important to know GATE exam pattern.
- GATE is a computer based test.
- There are two types of questions namely MCQs and NATs in the exam.
- Some questions are of 1 mark and some are of 2 marks.
- Only MCQs have negative marking.
- For a 1 mark question, there is 1/3 negative marking. Whereas for a 2 marks question, there is 2/3 negative marking.
- There are overall 65 questions of 100 marks.

- Engineering Mathematics carry around 15% of the total marks.
- General Aptitude section carry 15% of the total marks.
- Remaining 70% of the total marks is devoted to the subject of the paper.

- General Aptitude section carry 15% of the total marks.
- Remaining 85% of the total marks is devoted to the subject of the paper.

How To Prepare For GATE?
Once you have decided to appear for the GATE exam, preparation needs to begin. An effective strategy to prepare for GATE is when you are clear on the three points.
- Which paper you wish to appear for, and whether you are eligible for the same.
- Know the syllabus for GATE.
- Have a clear plan of action for GATE preparation.
Determine the eligibility and go through the syllabus. A good plan for GATE exam preparation must have the following points.
- Study hours – Study at least 5 hours every day. Divide your time between studying theory, practising questions, and solving mock tests.
- Books – Refer to the important books for GATE preparation.
- Question papers – For self analysis, and understanding the level of difficulty as well as the examination pattern, go through last year papers. GATE Papers of past years of all subjects are available online.
