HPNLET 2018 is also known as Himachal Pradesh National Law University Entrance Test. Himachal Pradesh National Law University (HPNLU), Shimla conducts HP National Law Entrance Test (HP-NLET) in order to shortlist candidates for admission in programmes such as – BA/BBA LLB (Hons), LLM and PhD in law. In this law entrance exam candidates are evaluated out of 150 marks. Aspirants need to attempt all the questions asked in the exam in two hours duration. The HPNLET 2018 will be conducted offline, and the question paper will follow different structure for different courses. Interested applicants can apply for HPNLU Law entrance test through online mode only. The application forms will be available on NLU Shimla official website.

HPNLET 2017 – NLU Shimla Admission through Entrance Test

In undergraduate courses like BA LLB/BBA LLB (Hons.) 60 students will be admitted in each program. Whereas in One year LLM program around 20 students will be admitted and 10 students will be admitted in PhD.

Cut off:- Last year, the cut off marks (Marks obtained out of total marks) for SC & ST, PWD and KM categories was as follows:- 20 for SC, ST and PWD and for Kashmiri Migrants 30.

HPNLET 2018 Eligibility Criteria

For UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAMMES [B.A./B.B.A. LL.B. (Hons.) Five Year Integrated Course]

  1. Must have passed 10+2 or equivalent examination with a minimum of 50% marks in case of candidates belonging to Unreserved/OBC/Specially Abled Person (SAP)/NRI/NRI Sponsored Categories/Kashmiri Migrants (candidates belonging to SC/ST Categories minimum qualifying marks will be 45%)
  2. Candidates who will be appearing for the qualifying examination March/ April 2018 are also eligible to apply.

Note: Applicants who have obtained 10+2 through Open School/Universities system directly without having any basic qualification are not eligible for the law course in HPNLU.

Age Limit:In case of Unreserved/NRI/NRI Sponsored categories candidates should be below 20 Years of age. Whereas in case of SC/ST/OBC/SAP categories candidates should be below 22 Years of age.

FOR POSTGRADUATE PROGRAMMES (One Year LL.M. Course)

  • Must have obtained LL.B. (Three /Five Years) or equivalent degree with a minimum of 55% marks in case of Unreserved/OBC/SAP categories (in case of SC/ST Categories it will be 50%).

For Ph. D. Programme

  • Should have obtained LL.M. or equivalent Degree with a minimum of 55% marks

HPNLET 2018 Application Form

Candidates are required to fill the application form for HPNET 2018 on the official website of HP National Law University. The application form will be available online only. Once HPNLET application form is filled, applicants need to pay the application fee online by means of an Online Payment Gateway – Credit Card/Debit Card and Net Banking. To fill the application form, candidates first need to register by clicking on the Admissions 2018 link on the homepage of the HP National Law University, Shimla. Fill in all the details as required in the User registration form.

After completing the registration process, click on the “Application Locker” and choose a list of colleges from HP National Law University. Choose the suitable application form and click on Apply button. You may now start filling in details in the application form. Upload your Photograph  and Signature (( in .jpg,.gif or .bmp format) between 10 KB to 100 KB) in the online application form. Make sure that you have provided details in all the fields which are mandatory as incomplete applications forms will be rejected. After filling in the details in the online application for HPNLET 2018 you may now make payment.

Application Fee

The Application fee can be paid by Debit / Credit card or Net Banking facility. After the payment has been received, you will receive a confirmation through mail after which student will view & print the acknowledgment slip in the from their e-mail id or from the Application Locker under the Application Submitted area.

HPNLET 2018 Admit Card

The Admit Cards for HPNLET 2018 for admission to B.A./B.B.A. LL.B. (Hons.), LL.M. and Ph.D. will be released for print online. All the candidates are required to carry a clear copy of the Admit Card available for print from the link that will be updated on this page. In case, if the face of the candidate is not clearly visible on Admit Card, the University has the right to decline the candidate from taking the test. So while taking print out make sure that every particular in the admit card is clearly visible.

You can download your HPNLET Admit Card 2018 by either searching by Applicant’s Name and Date of Birth or by searching Application Number and Date of Birth. The candidates belonging to Persons with Disabilities category have to bring a copy of Disability Certificate issued by the competent authority, at the Examination Centre on the day of exam for availing the facility of scribe/extra time.

HPNLET 2018 Exam Pattern

HPNLET 2018 offline exam is conducted to offer admission in courses such as BA/BBA LLB (Hons), LLM and PhD in Law. HP-NLET exam pattern for each course admissions will be different. In HPNLET exam for BA/BBA LLB (Hons), aspirants will be evaluated out of 150 marks. Also, one mark will be awarded for each correct answer.

PhD Exam Structure

In HPNLET for PhD there will be two papers – Paper I will have 50 objective type questions from Legal Research Methodology carrying 2 marks each and Paper II will have a 50 marks essay on a topic related to the Law and Social Transformation.

HPNLET 2018 Result

The Himachal Pradesh National Law University (HPNLU) declared the results for HPNLET 2018 exam conducted for BA LLB/BBA LLB (Hons), LLM and PhD course on its official website.

HPNLU declares a separate list with names of aspirants shortlisted for admission through HP-NET 2018. The national law university also declares All India Rank list and All Himachal Pradesh State List. Under these, a separate merit lists will also be declared for students under different categories such as General, Defence Personnel (DP), Kashmiri Migrants (KM), Persons with Disabilities (PwD), Scheduled Caste (ST) and Scheduled tribes (ST).

Tie Breaker

In a scenario wherein two or more candidates secure the same rank in HPNLET 2018 then tie-break in such a scenario is to done as per the below mentioned criteria:

  1. Candidate with higher marks in 10+2 or equivalent exam will be ranked higher.
  2. If tie still remains, then the candidate with higher marks in Class 10 will be ranked higher.
  3. If tie still remains, then higher age/older candidate will be ranked higher.

Seat Distribution in HP National law University

On the basis of HPNET ranks, around 60 seats will be available for admission in BA/BBA LLB (Hons) programme, 20 seats will be available in one year duration LLM course and 10 seats are offered in PhD program. Further, 25% of the total seats will be reserved for the Himachal Pradesh State Domicile students and apart from this, a total of 5 seats will be reserved for women candidates in LLM programme offered at HP National Law University.

Aspirants are further informed that the distribution of seats for undergraduate courses is mentioned below:

Within the Sanctioned Intake

  1. SC: 15%
  2. ST: 7.5%
  3. Differently Abled: 3%
  4. Wards of Serving/Retired Defence Personnel: 5%

Over and Above Sanctioned Intake

  1. Kashmiri Migrants#: 02 Seats
  2. International Students, including NRI*: 15%

The university has also stated that all these seats will be of supernumerary character.
