IIT Madras conducts HSEE (Humanities and Social Sciences Entrance Examination) 2019 for the aspirants willing to admission in five years integrated Master of Arts (MA). HSEE 2019 was conducted on April 21, 2019. Further, the result is going to be announced on the website hsee.iitm.ac.in on May 13, 2019. Candidates as per their performance are granted admission. Note that, there is no reevaluation facility for Part I & II, as the Part I exam is conducted in online mode and the checking is done with extreme care. HSEE 2019 is conducted for the students willing to take admission in Integrated M.A. in Development Studies and English Studies. The programme imparts considerable knowledge of Indian economy, literature, philosophy, culture, society, and public policy. HSEE 2019 Result
The result is made available to the candidates on the official website. The link to check the same is also provided on this page as soon as the results are declared. The merit list/rank list is published after the result declaration for each category separately. The result is released for only those candidates who qualify the examination. Candidates should keep the hard copy of result with themselves safely for future reference.
Re-grading and Re-totalling
Candidates should know that as Part I is a Computer-based test (CBT) so there shall be no re-grading and re-totaling possible in Part I. Also, re-grading and re-totaling is not possible in Part II as checking of the answer sheets is done in a highly confidential manner. So, it can not be disclosed to anyone.
HSEE 2019 Cutoff
To qualify the examination, candidates need to score the minimum marks. Candidates belonging to the OBC-NCL category need to score a minimum of 45% marks in the HSEE 2019 examination. A rank list is prepared for the candidates who score 50% in the exam. Separate merit lists are released category wise. PwD rank lists are published separately in which candidates have to secure 25% in the exam. Allotment of seats is done on the basis of the released merit list. If a candidate declines to take admission due to any reason then his/her seat is allotted to the next eligible candidate in the list.
HSEE 2019 Admission Intake
Candidates are admitted in the institution solely based on the Humanities and Social Sciences Entrance Examination (HSEE). There are 23 seats in each stream with a total of 46 seats. Seats are to be allotted to the candidates on the basis of the academic performance of students (CGPA) during the first three semesters, students’ preferences, and availability of seats under each discipline.

HSEE 2019 Seat Reservation
Candidates belonging to reserved categories are admitted under the reservation policy. Here is the percentage of relaxation given to each category to be qualified for the admission.
- Other Backward Classes belonging to Non-Creamy Layer (OBC-NCL) – 27%
- Scheduled Caste (SC) – 15%
- Scheduled Tribe (ST) – 7.5%
- Persons with Disabilities (PwD) – 05%
HSEE 2019 Eligibility Criteria
Candidates willing to seek admission in the courses offered in the steam of Humanities and social sciences must fulfil the eligibility criteria before filling the application form. Candidates applying shall have passed at least one of the qualifying examination from the list given below.
- 10+2 from a Central or State Board recognized by the Association of Indian Universities
- Intermediate or two-year Pre-University examination conducted by a recognized Board by the Association of Indian Universities.
- The final examination of the two-year course of the Joint Services Wing of NDA.
- Senior Secondary School Examination conducted by the NIOS with at least five subjects
- 10+2 from any Public School recognized Board or University examination in India or in a foreign country
- H.S.C. vocational examination.
- General Certificate Education (GCE) examination (London, Cambridge or Sri Lanka) at the Advanced (A) level.
- CBSE Class XII skill courses.
- High School Certificate Examination of the Cambridge University or International Baccalaureate Diploma of the International Baccalaureate Office, Geneva.
Candidates who have done 10+2 from outside India or from a Board not specified above should present a certificate saying that they have passed examination equivalent to Class XII examination.
HSEE 2019 Application Form
The HSEE 2019 Application form has been released. Candidates should fulfill the eligibility criteria before filling the application form. Interested applicants must fill the application form till January 23, 2019. The application form needs to be filled in online mode only. Candidates should submit the application form along with fees and relevant documents before the due date. If a candidate submits the application form in any other mode it can be summarily rejected/canceled.
Application Fee: To complete the application process candidates have to submit the application fee before the due date. Check the table below to know the amount to be paid for the application form.
- SC/ ST / PwD Category: Rs. 1200.
- Candidates of all other categories: Rs. 2400.
Note: Bank charges of Rs 40/- is applicable.
Mode of Payment: Candidates should ensure that they pay the application fee before the due date through Net Banking/Credit Card/Debit Card. Candidates can also do the fee payment through Indian Bank Challan generated during the application process.

HSEE 2019 Admit Card
Candidates who all successfully submit their application form on time are issued admit card prior to the exam. Eligible candidates can download the Hall ticket from the official website. Admit Card is made available from March 20, 2019, onwards. The last date to download the HSEE 2019 Admit card is April 21, 2019. Candidates should note that admit card are not to be sent them via post. It is only made available in online mode. Hall ticket/admit card is an important document as it contains important information related to the examination. So, candidates should keep the admit card in good condition till the time the admission process gets over completely.
If in case there is any discrepancy in the admit card, candidates should contact the Chairman, HSEE-2019, immediately by phone/email/fax.

HSEE 2019 Exam Pattern
It is very important for the candidates who appear for the HSEE 2019 examination to be familiar with the exam pattern. So, it acts as a helping hand for the preparation of the exam for the aspirants.
The language of the exam: English
Duration of the Exam: The HSEE 2019 is conducted for 3 Hours. The exam comprises of 2 parts each having the sectional time limit. Part I is of 2½ hours (150 minutes). Part II is an essay writing section which is of 30 minutes.

HSEE 2019 Syllabus
HSEE-2019 comprises of Two parts: Part I and Part II. Syllabus for Part 1 consists of English (25% marks of Part I), Analytical and Quantitative Ability (25% marks of Part I), and General Studies (in four sub-parts; 50% marks of Part I). Part II includes essay writing.
- English and Comprehension skill
This section tests a student’s ability to solve English language questions. The key areas from which questions are to be asked are:
- Reading skills: Candidates has to read the unseen passage(s) that aim(s) to test their comprehension skills and answer the questions on its basis.
- Grammar: This section tests the candidate’s ability to solve questions related to English grammar including sentence structure and usage, the use of tenses, verb patterns, articles, and active and passive constructions etc.
- Vocabulary: This section tests candidate’s command over vocabulary and their ability to understand meaning, structure, and collocation of words.
- Analytical and Quantitative Ability
In this section, candidates are assessed analytical skills, quantitative aptitude and the ability to solve the mathematical questions

This section involves essay writing. Candidates can get any general topic for essay writing like current affairs and general knowledge. The essay should be descriptive, easy to understand, and should include examples wherever required.

Candidates have an option to choose 2 exam centres according to their preference. The Conducting body tries and ensures to allot the first choice of test centre preferred by the candidate.
