Notice regarding Walk-in Interview

Walk-in Interview will be held only for those candidates who have cleared the CSIR-UGC NET examination held in June 2017 for which results were declared on November 30, 2017. Candidates who were already shortlisted for the interview on November 29, 2017 are not allowed to appear again in the Walk-in interview.

Interested eligible candidates may attend the interview as per the above mentioned schedule. Candidates should bring all their original certificates/mark sheets with self-attested photocopy of each of it and a recent passport size photograph along with the updated Bio-data.

Candidates not fulfilling the eligibility criteria will not be considered for the selection process.

Biological Sciences

M.Sc./M.Tech. Degree in the relevant discipline with a minimum of 60% marks or CGPA/CPI of 7.0 on a 10 point scale. (overall percentage/CGPA/CPI; not only in majoring subject).

If the transcript/grade sheet issued by the Institute/University reports:

  • Only marks: percentage will be considered
  • Only grades: CGPA/CPI will be considered. If CGPA/CPI is reported on any scale other than 10 (eg. 4 point/ 8 point scale), an equivalent CGPA/CPI will be calculated as per the following formula:
    CGPA/CPI in a 10 point scale = (CGPA/CPI Obtained×10)/PS
    PS = Point scale used by the Institute/University.
  • Both marks and CGPA/CPI: Percentage equivalent of CGPA/CPI, as indicated on the transcript/gradesheet, will be considered. The conversion factor must be available in the transcript/gradesheet.

Exceptionally brilliant candidates with B.Tech./MBBS/MCA can also apply for the PhD programme in Biological Sciences.

Additionally, a National level examination like National Eligibility Test (NET)/GATE/UGC-JRF/CSIR-JRF/DBT (JRF A category)/ICMR (JRF category I)/NET-LS/INSPIRE-PhD/Rajiv Gandhi Fellowship/JGEEBILS or any other recognized score is mandatory. The certificate/fellowship MUST be valid at the time of admission.

Students whose results for CSIR-UGC NET Fellowship or ICMR-JRF category-I or DBT-JRF A category or Rajiv Gandhi Fellowship or INSPIRE-PhD or any other equivalent fellowship are awaited can also apply with their roll number(s) mentioned in the application. Such candidates will be allowed to appear for the interview provided they have qualified examination for any of the above fellowship before the interview date. Such candidates will not be sent a call letter for the interview. However, they should write to the Convener, PhD Admissions committee at [email protected] and inform if they will attend the interview.

Chemistry

  • M.Sc./M.Tech. Degree in the relevant discipline with a minimum of 60% marks or CGPA/CPI of 7.0 on a 10 point scale (overall percentage/CGPA/CPI; not only in majoring subject). Mathematics in the 10+2 level is desirable.

    If the transcript/grade sheet issued by the Institute/University reports:

    • Only marks, percentage will be considered.
    • Only grades, CGPA/CPI will be considered. If CGPA/CPI is reported on any scale other than 10 (eg. 4 point/ 8 point scale), an equivalent CGPA/CPI will be calculated as per the following formula:

Earth and Environmental Science

  • Master’s (M.Sc.)/M.Tech Degrees in any of the disciplines of Earth Science/Geology/Geophysics/Atmospheric Science/ Oceanography/Geoinformatics/Remote Sensing/ Chemistry/Mathematics/Physics/Chemical, Environmental, Computer and Civil Engineering with a minimum of 60% marks or CGPA/CPI of 7.0 on a 10 point scale (overall percentage/CGPA/CPI; not only in majoring subject).
  • Exceptionally brilliant students with B.Tech. in Chemical, Computer, Civil and Environmental Engineering with strong motivation towards Earth and Environmental Sciences, can also apply for PhD programme.
  • For students with Master’s (M.Sc.) degree in Geology/ Earth Science/Environmental Sciences, either of the combinations of Chemistry and Physics, or Physics and Mathematics or Mathematics and Physics must have been subjects of study and/or a ‘minor’ at the B.Sc. level is essential.

    Meeting minimum eligibility criteria will be assessed as follows:
    If the transcript/grade sheet issued by the Institute/University reports:

    • Only marks, percentage will be considered.
    • Only grades, CGPA/CPI will be considered. If CGPA/CPI is reported on any scale other than 10 (eg. 4 point/ 8 point scale), an equivalent CGPA/CPI will be calculated as per the following formula:

Physics

Chemical Engineering

  • ME/M.Tech/MS Degree in the relevant disciplines (such as Chemical Engineering/ Environmental Engineering/ Biotechnology etc.) with a minimum of 60% marks or CGPA of 7.0 on a 10 point scale (overall percentage/CGPA/CPI; not only in majoring subject). If the transcript/grade sheet issued by the Institute/University reports:
    • Only marks, percentage will be considered.
    • Only grades, CGPA/CPI will be considered. If CGPA/CPI is reported on any scale other than 10 (eg. 4 point/ 8 point scale), an equivalent CGPA/CPI will be calculated as per the following formula:
    • CGPA/CPI in a 10 point scale = (CGPA/CPI Obtained×10)/PS
    • PS = Point scale used by the Institute/University.
    • Both marks and CGPA/CPI

  • For Chemical Engineering, valid GATE score is not mandatory. However, the candidates must have qualified GATE examination on or after 2012.

    Besides, candidates with national level examination or fellowship like National Eligibility Test (NET)/ UGC-JRF/ CSIR-JRF/ INSPIRE-PhD/ NET-LS/ Rajiv Gandhi Fellowship etc. are also eligible to apply. In that case, the certificate/ fellowship MUST be valid at the time of admission. Students whose results for CSIR-UGC NET Fellowship/ Rajiv Gandhi Fellowship/ INSPIRE-PhD or any other equivalent fellowship are awaited may also apply with their roll number(s) mentioned in the application. Electrical Engineering & Computer Science

  • M.Tech/ME/MS Degree in the relevant discipline with a minimum of 60% marks or CGPA of 7.0 on a 10 point scale (overall percentage/CGPA/CPI; not only in majoring subject). If the transcript/grade sheet issued by the Institute/University reports:
    • Only marks, percentage will be considered.
    • Only grades, CGPA/CPI will be considered. If CGPA/CPI is reported on any scale other than 10 (eg. 4 point/ 8 point scale), an equivalent CGPA/CPI will be calculated as per the following formula:
      CGPA/CPI in a 10 point scale = (CGPA/CPI Obtained×10)/PS
      PS = Point scale used by the Institute/University.
    • Both marks and CGPA/CPI
      • Percentage equivalent of CGPA/CPI, as indicated on the transcript/gradesheet, will be considered, if absolute grading was followed.

  • Candidates having a M.Tech./M.E. degree from India must have qualified the GATE exam at the time of taking admission to the M.Tech./M.E. programme.

Humanities & Social Sciences

  • M.Sc./M.A. Degree in the relevant discipline with a minimum of 60% marks or CGPA/CPI of 7.0 on a 10-point scale (overall percentage/CGPA/CPI; not only in majoring subject). If the transcript/grade sheet issued by the Institute/University reports:
    • Only marks: percentage will be considered.
    • Only grades: CGPA/CPI will be considered. If CGPA/CPI is reported on any scale other than 10 (eg. 4 point/ 8 point scale), an equivalent CGPA/CPI will be calculated as per the following formula:
      CGPA/CPI in a 10 point scale = (CGPA/CPI Obtained×10)/PS
      where PS = Point scale used by the Institute/University.
    • Both marks and CGPA/CPI: Percentage equivalent of CGPA/CPI, as indicated on the transcript/grade sheet, will be considered. The conversion factor must be available in the transcript/grade sheet.

Such candidates may walk-in for the interview provided they have qualified examination for any of the above fellowship before the interview date.
  • A relaxation of 5% of marks will be allowed for candidates belonging to SC/ST/PD categories.
  • Merely fulfilling the eligibility criterion does not entitle a candidate to be called for the interview.

Age Limit

Preferably not more than 28 years. Age relaxation of 3 years will be given for OBC (Non Creamy Layer) and 5 years for SC/ST/PD/Female applicants.

Upper age limit shall be determined as on last date of online submission of applications. Date of Birth as recorded in the Matriculation/ Secondary Examination Certificate/Aadhar Card only will be accepted by the IISER Bhopal for determining the age.

According to Government of India norms.

Selection Procedure

The Shortlisted candidates will be called for an interview. Date of interview will be communicated to shortlisted candidates by e-mail and the same will be available on the Institute website. TA will be paid to SC/ST candidates appearing for the interview as per Govt. of India norms.

Fellowship

All selected candidates will be eligible to receive JRF fellowship as per the funding agency norms, in vogue.
