IIST B.Tech Admission 2017 has begin from June 01, 2017, with online registration. The qualifiers of JEE Advanced 2017, who satisfy the eligibility criteria may now apply for IIST Admission 2017. Indian Institute of Space Science (IIST) was established in 2007. Even in the infant stage, the Institute gained a place among the best college in India. It is a government aided institute which is also a deemed university. It is located in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, India and is completely dedicated to study and research in outer space. Selection Process – Rank list for IIST Admission 2017 will be on basis of JEE Adv 2017 Rank. Thus, candidates should have qualified and appeared for JEE Adv 2017 and get minimum cut off so that they get considered for IIST 2017 Rank List. In addition, they must fulfill eligibility conditions laid down by Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology.
What’s new in IIST Admission 2017
Until last year, the IIST B.Tech Admission was granted on the basis JEE Main Rank and the JEE Advanced score was used as eligibility criteria. However, this year, the process has been changed and the admission will be granted on the basis of JEE Advanced 2017 AIR only.
Eligibility Criteria – The criteria for eligibility is that the candidate should:
- Be a citizen of India.
- Has passed 10+2 with 75% marks (65% for SC/ST/PD), with core subjects as Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, any Language, and one other course other than these.
- Was born on or after October 01, 1992 (October 01, 1987 for SC/ST/PD).
JEE Advanced 2017 Criteria – Just qualifying JEE Advanced is not sufficient, candidates must also have cut off score.

Counselling 2017 Registration & Admit Card

Application Form 2017
Application Process – The candidates may apply for IIST 2017 admission, from the link above. First, the candidates will have to register by submitting the JEE Advanced Roll Number and Date of Birth. Only then the candidates will be able to access the application form and fill details in it.
The last step to submit the form will payment of application fee. The application fee for the IIST 2017 admission is as below:
- Rs. 600 for Gen and OBC candidates
- Rs. 300 for SC/ST/PD candidates
- Rs. 300 for Female Candidates
IIST 2017 Merit List – When the application process will end, the institute will release the rank list for the candidates. It will be prepared after considering the above mentioned factors and the AIR of candidate in JEE Advanced 2017.
If during the merit allocation, tie happens between two or more candidates then the following method will be used to break it:
- The candidates with more marks in Mathematics will be allocated higher rank.
- If the tie does not breaks, marks in Physics will be checked.
- Lastly, to break the tie, marks in JEE Main 2017 will consider but category wise.
Number of seats in IIST for admission 2017-18 presents a good idea for your chances of admission. 2.2 lakh candidates were allowed to appear for JEE Advanced. The number is not less but this does not mean that your chances of getting admission are small. There are only three courses in space science which the institute offers but not all the aspirants aim for the same course. Check the details on your own and know your chances of admission.
IIST 2017 Course and Seat Matrix – There are total three UG engineering courses offered by IIST. The total intake capacity is 140. Candidates may check the details from the table below:

The seat reservation under IIST Admission will be as below:
- Scheduled Castes (SC) – 15%
- Scheduled Tribes (ST) – 7.5%
- Other Backward Castes Non-Creamy Layer (OBC-NCL) – 27%
- Persons with Disabilities (PD) – 3%
Opening and Closing Rank of IIST
Now that the chances of getting admission in IIST are being discussed, one should have a look at the previous year opening and closing rank. The opening rank is the highest rank which gets the admission, whereas, the closing rank is the lowest rank with which the admission ends.
