Bengali 3-Year B.A. Honours degree* in the subject or in Comparative Literature from a recognised University with at least 55% marks (50% for PD/OBC-A/OBC-B category, 45% for Sports category and 41% for SC/ST category) in Honours papers.
(In case Honours is NOT specified/ mentioned in the mark-sheet for the BA Degree of an applicant, then he/she will NOT be Eligible.)

Category-I
A minimum three-year Bachelors degree* with Honours/Major in Comparative Literature with at least 40% marks, or, a three-year Bachelors degree* with Honours/Major in any literature subject with at least 50% marks (45% for PD/Sports/
OBC-A/OBC-B category and 40% for SC/ST category) in Honours/Major papers.
(In case Honours/Major is NOT specified/ mentioned in the mark-sheet for the BA Degree of an applicant, then he/she will NOT be eligible.)
Category-II
A Bachelors degree* with a minimum of three years of formal instruction with Honours/Major/Specialization in any nonliterature subject in Arts/Science/Commerce stream with at least 50% marks (45% for PD/OBC-A/OBC-B/Sports category, 40% for SC/ST category) in Honours/Major/Specialization papers or a degree in Engineering/Technology/Medical Science or any other recognised Bachelors degree*, with a minimum of three years of formal instruction.
Economics 3-Year B.A./B.Sc Honours degree* or Major in Economics from a recognised University with at least 60% marks (54% for PD/OBC-A/OBC-B category, 50% for Sports category and 45% for SC/ST category) in Honours papers and at least two papers/courses in Mathematics or Mathematical Economics.

Education Category-I:
3-Year B.A. Honours degree* in Education from a recognised University with at least 50% marks (45% for PD/Sports/OBCA/OBC-B category and 40% for SC/ST category) in the Honours papers.

Category-II:
3-Year Honours degree in any subject and a B.Ed degree with at least 50% marks (45% for PD/Sports/OBC-A/OBC-B category and 40% for SC/ST category) in both degrees from any recognised University. (Among the 6 seats available for the category, 4 seats for Jadavpur University students and 2 seats for other University students. If all the seats are not filled up under category-II then remaining seats will be offered to candidates under category-I).
English Category-I
A minimum three-year Bachelors degree* with Honours/Major in English or in Comparative Literature with at least 50% marks (45% for PD/Sports/ OBC-A/OBC-B category and 40% for SC/ST category) in Honours/Major papers.

Exam Schedule

Selection Procedure

For any candidate, increase in marks due to post-publication review/scrutiny after the closing dates of application for admissions to M.A (Day & Evening) Courses for the academic session 2016-17, shall NOT be considered, and his/her merit position shall NOT be changed.

For a candidate selected provisionally for admission, if it is found at the time of admissions that the marks he/she had stated at the time of application is more than what he/she has actually obtained (as in his/her mark-sheets), then his/her merit position shall be revised accordingly and he/she may be denied admission.

Selection Procedure for Master of Arts (Day) Courses

For Comparative Literature

For Category I (those with Honours in any literature subject including Comparative Literature):- Selection will be made on the basis of marks secured in the Admission Test. There will be a single paper for Category-I candidates.

For Category-II (those with Honours in non-literature subjects in Arts/Science/Commerce or with a degree in Engineering/Technology/Medical or any other recognized Bachelor degree):-

Selection will be made on the basis of marks secured in the Admission Test. Category-II students will have to appear for two papers in general literature in the Admission Test.

For Linguistics, Economics and Political Science with International Relations

Selection will be made solely on the basis of Admission Test in the subject concerned.

For Philosophy and Sanskrit

Selection will be made on the basis of equal weight on the marks secured in the Honours papers and an Admission Test in the subject.

For Film Studies

Category-I: candidates with Honours in Film Studies: Candidates with 50% marks and above in Honours papers will be directly admitted. Candidates with marks below 50% in Honours papers will have to sit for an Admission Test.

Category-II : Candidates with Honours in any subject (other than Film Studies) in Arts / Commerce / Science or a degree in Engineering/ Technology/Medical Science or any other recognized Bachelor degree or a three-year B.A. degree with Film Studies as a subject of study: Selection will be made on the basis of an Admission Test.

For Bengali**, History ** and Sociology**

Selection will be made on the basis of marks obtained in the Honours papers. However for those candidates who have passed the correspondence courses/distance education courses, etc. of any recognised university will have to sit for a qualifying test.

For Education**

Category-I: Selection will be made on the basis of marks secured in Honours papers.

Category-II: Selection will be made on the basis of marks secured in B.Ed examination.

For English

For Category I (those with Honours in English or Comparative Literature):- Selection will be made on the basis of marks secured in the Admission Test. There will be a single paper (Papaer-II) for Category-I candidates.

For Category-II (those with Honours in any other subjects in Arts/Science/Commerce or with a degree in Engineering/ Technology/ Medical or any other recognized Bachelor degree):- All candidates will have to appear in two papers in the admission test, Paper-I & Paper-II. Paper-I is a qualifying test and the scripts of only those who obtain the minimum marks set by the Department in Paper-I will be evaluated for Paper-II. The minimum marks for Paper-I will be 50% (45% for PD/OBC-A/OBC-B/Sports category, 40% for SC/ST category)

Selection Procedure for Master of Arts (Evening) Courses

For Bengali** and History**

Selection will be made on the basis of marks obtained in the Honours papers. However for those candidates who have passed the correspondence courses/distance education courses, etc. of any recognised university will have to sit for a qualifying test.

For Sanskrit

Selection will be made on the basis of equal weight on the marks secured in Honours papers and an Admission Test in the subject.

**Candidates who have passed B.A.(Hons)/ B.Ed or it’s equivalent examination through a correspondence course or distance mode will be required to sit for a Preliminary Qualifying Test (PQT) to be notified later.
