In the recent notice, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi has informed that JEE Advanced 2020 has been postponed. This move was very much expected, given that National Testing Agency (NTA) has postponed JEE Main 2020 the last week of May 2020. Joint Entrance Examination Advanced was supposed to be held on May 17, 2020, and the registrations were to commence from May 01, 2020. However, JEE Main’s schedule getting effected by COVID-19, puts JEE Advanced scheduled in a disarray too.
The official notice on the website of JEE Advanced 2020 says:
“JEE (Main) 2020 April Examination has been postponed due to COVID-19 outbreak. JEE (Advanced) 2020, which was scheduled to be held on Sunday, May 17, 2020, thus stands postponed and will be rescheduled after JEE (Main) 2020.”
With the exam dates and the registration dates of JEE Advanced 2020 postponed, the entire schedule of the exam now stands undecided including the admit card release dates, answer key release dates, and the result declaration dates.
This year, the top 2.5 lakh candidates of JEE Main 2020 will be allowed to register for JEE Advanced 2020. The registration will begin online, on jeeadv.ac.in.
The qualifiers of JEE Main 2020 get admission to the NITS, IIITs, CFTIs of the nation. On the other hand, it also a qualifying exam for JEE Advanced 2020. Ranking among the top 2.5 lakh candidates of JEE Main 2020 will allow candidates to appear for JEE Advanced to get admission in one of the 23 Indian Institute of Technology in B.Tech courses.
JEE Main 2020 postponed due to COVID-19 and will be held in the 4th week of May 2020
On March 18, 2020, NTA announced the postponement of JEE Main 2020 April exam. The notice said that the new dates for the exam will be announced on March 31, 2020.
On March 31, exact dates were however not announced for the exam. However, the notice released said that exam will be held in the 4th week of May 2020 and the admit card will be issued after April 15, 2020 based on the situation then. The exact dates and schedule for JEE Main second attempt will be available only after the situation is evaluated. The notice also notified that necessary changes in the schedule will be made based on the COVID-19 situation and the same will be informed to the students.
The admit card of JEE Advanced 2020 was to be issued to the registered candidates from May 12, 2020. Response sheet and answer keys were to be uploaded on May 20 and 27 respectively. The results were to be out of June 8, 2020. Given the situation, the schedule is no longer valid. IIT Delhi will be able to decide on a new schedule only after JEE Main 2020 is held and COVID-19 situation in India is improved.
JEE Advanced 2020 will be held at the national level and at exam centers outside India too. The candidates will have to appear for the exam in online mode. There will be 2 papers in the exam and it is mandatory to appear in both the papers. Each paper is of 3 hours duration. Both papers 1 and 2 will have 3 sections each and in both papers question come from physics, chemistry, and maths.
Another exam that is in line with JEE Advanced 2020 is the Architecture Aptitude Test (AAT). AAT is conducted for the candidates who qualify JEE Advanced and wish to take admission in the B. Arch. program.
B.Arch program is offered by IIT Kharagpur and IIT Roorkee only. Although the admission in B.Arch is not based on AAT rank or score, it is based on JEE Advanced AIR only, but passing AAT is mandatory. Although the registration for AAT will be starting on June 018, 2020, but the schedule for AAT might get affected too.
A of now as per the data by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) on April 02, 2020, there are 1700+ active COVID-19 cases in India, with approximately 50 deaths and around 150 cured / discharged cases.
