Online registration for nation’s biggest UG engineering entrance exam, Joint Entrance Examination Main, has started. The candidates can apply for JEE Main 2020 April attempt from the official website of the exam, jeemain.nta.nic.in. However, before applying for the examination, candidates have a lot of questions in mind, like am I eligible or not?, what is the stat code of eligibility, how much marks do I need in class 12?, etc. To get answer to all of these questions, candidates can read below.
What is the State Code of Eligibility?
This is one section which confuses a lot of students. State of eligibility refers to the code of the State from where the candidate has passed their Class 12th ot its equivalent exam. Now, remember that it does not refer to the state or the native place from where you belong to. Let us take an example to understand the term state of eligibility better.
Say that you are a native of UP but you are studying for Class 12th in Delhi, then in the state of eligibility, you will select Delhi.
Other cases for JEE Main State of Eligibility
Case 1: Passed Class 12th exam from one state but appeared for improvement from another state
In such a case, candidate’s state code of eligibility will be from where the candidate has first passed Class 12th or its equivalent exam. For example – if you appeared for Class 12th exam in Delhi, however, you appeared for improvement exam from UP, you will select the state of eligibility as Delhi only.
Case 2: Passed / appearing class 12th from NIOS
Those who have passed / appearing Class 12th from NIOS need to select the state of eligibility as the State in which the study centre is located.
Case 3: Indian nationals passing Class 12th exam from Institution abroad or Nepal / Bhutan
In such a case, their state code of eligibility will be determined based on the candidate’s permanent address in India as given in the passport.
Case 4: OCI / PIO passing Class 12th exam
The state code of eligibility for such candidates will be at par with Indian nationals. OCI / PIO candidates who have passed Class 12th exam from an Institution abroad are eligible for Other State quota seats or All India quota seats (but NOT for Home State quota seats) in all NITs, IIEST and Other-CFTI.
