Subject-wise Study Strategy for IIT JEE 2020-21
Physics requires logical thinking, a thorough understanding of basic concepts and the application of mathematics to solve problems. Physics depends very less on memory and more on executing the ideas and concepts to solve problems. Understanding the concepts and solving problems is the key to score well in physics. Try and expertise the basics of the subject rather than memorizing the formulae. While preparing, you need to keep your concepts clear before you go for solving questions. Numerical problems as well as conceptual questions, both are important for JEE.
Golden rule to be a master in physics in JEE: Practice, Practice, and Practice Problems. The main objective is to solve so many questions that you start anticipating which method would likely work best for a particular question. With that sort of experience you will be able to get the solution quickly.
For Mathematics, practice is the only key to success. All the important formulae should be on your tips. You should know every shortcut possible. Mathematics is not just solving, it needs a little visualisation skills too (ex.- graphs and curve sketching).
“Work on the theory really well. At least understand what is the basic idea. What are we calculating? Why are we doing so? What is its significance? Where is it applied? A working amount of memory is required to recall the formulas and methods. So don’t go in with the expectation that everything is just thought and understanding-oriented. You will have to remember bulk of stuff in the beginning. With time it will eject out as a reflex.” – Rajanish Kumar Upadhyay (IIT Mandi).
The best way to study Organic Chemistry for JEE is to learn by understanding and then going through it again and again. You should write a summary of important points. Always start with the basics and then move ahead with complex concepts. You should practice problems each time when you study a topic. Try to make a separate notebook for named reactions & their mechanism and revise it daily.
For Physical Chemistry, read from NCERT as it will help you going through the basic concepts and then have your concepts clarified at your coaching institute. To become an expert at Physical Chemistry you need to develop problem solving skills. Be fluent with all the formulae. You should know all the formulae of chemical bonding, equilibrium, kinetics, radioactivity etc. Solving as many problems in Physical Chemistry helps.
Inorganic Chemistry involves a lot of memorizing. You have to study NCERT properly. Try to make very precise notes for each chapter. You might think it is a waste of time right now to maintain so many notes but they will prove very worthy for your JEE revision.

Things to Avoid in IIT JEE 2021 Preparation:
- Postponing and Backlogs: Postponing things is a lazy habit, you do not need to do this in JEE preparation. Always try to finish work and assignments on time and it is a habit which helps in achieving your goal. You should always clear your doubts as soon as possible.
- Excessive TV/Social media/Video games.
- Reading too many books: Anyday, quality matters more than quantity. The number of books you read is not proportional to your chances of clearing JEE. You need to be aware of what is present in the syllabus and try and avoid questions which are above the exam level.
- Only mugging and not understanding concepts: Do not rely on mugging up things. Avoid mugging up unless it’s some chemistry part or basic formulas.
- Feeling depressed due to low scores in tests.
- Depending only on self study.

What should be the strategy to prepare for JEE Main and Advanced?
The JEE Main and Advanced preparation strategy should be very well planned. It depends upon the student’s present situation, how much he / she has already studied. Also it depends upon the general aptitude and learning ability. However some JEE Main and Advanced preparation tips are must for all candidates.
Study hard from day 1. Do not wait for the last moment to study the syllabus. The topics are common for board exams as well as the JEE. So do not panic. Simply study well whatever is there in your board syllabus. Side by side, practice questions of JEE.

Devote 5-6 hours daily for JEE Preparation daily. This time is separate from your school or coaching classroom time.
JEE Main and Advanced Preparation includes understanding concepts, practical application of theory, and problem solving skill development.
NCERT Books are sufficient to score high in JEE.
Many students still believe that NCERT books are not enough. That is partly a myth. NCERT books is the key to understand concepts. For certain topics, where extra help is required, students may refer to JEE reference books. But it is important to note that too many reference books should not be studied. Referring too many books may only lead to confusion.
It is absolutely necessary that all NCERT questions are solved for Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry. After this is done, you may move on to JEE question banks to solve questions of JEE level.
The study material provided by coaching institutes is good for further problem solving. Students must do self analysis on how difficult questions they can solve from time to time.
For JEE Main exam, NCERT books are the best. To move up to JEE Advanced level, reference study material should be used.
What are the most important topics for JEE Exam Preparation?
