JIPMER M.Sc./PBD/M.P.H./Ph.D. Entrance Exam 2019

Admission to all Professional Courses at JIPMER is through an Entrance Examination conducted by JIPMER at various centers in India. In addition, certain categories of students are admitted through nominations by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India.

Eligibility Criteria

For M.Sc Nursing

  • Passed the qualification of B.Sc. Nursing Degree of this Institute or any other University accepted as equivalent thereof.
  • Should have registered with the State Registration Council of Nursing and Midwifery.
  • B.Sc.Nursing graduate should have one year of experience in a hospital or in a College or in a School of Nursing or in Community Health Program after registration in State Nursing Council.
  • Minimum of one year of work experience prior or after Post-basic B.Sc. Nursing.
  • In case of a male candidate, they should have passed any other course recommended by Indian Nursing Council in the place of Midwifery. Those who have studied Midwifery only are eligible for admission to Branch II and V.
  • The candidate shall be medically fit.
  • Candidates who have obtained Post Basic B.Sc.Nursing (P.B. B.Sc.Nursing) qualification from Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) are NOT eligible for admission to M.Sc.(Nursing) course at JIPMER.

For M.Sc. Allied Health Science Courses

  • M.Sc. Medical Biochemistry – Applicant should have qualified in a 3 year B.Sc. Degree Examination of a recognized University with Biochemistry or Chemistry as main subject with Biology / Botany / Zoology as ancillary subject OR candidates with B.Sc. Degree in Medical Laboratory Technology from a recognized University.
  • M.Sc. MLT–Microbiology – Applicants should have qualified in a 3 years B.Sc. Degree Examination of a recognized University with Microbiology / Biotechnology as main subject with Biology / Botany / Zoology as ancillary subject OR B.Sc. Zoology OR Candidates with B.Sc. Degree in Medical Laboratory Technology from a recognized university.
  • M.Sc. MLT–Pathology – Applicants should have qualified in a 3 years B.Sc. Degree Examination of a recognized University with Medical Lab Technology / Biotechnology as main subject with Biology / Botany / Zoology as ancillary subject OR B.Sc. Zoology.
  • M.Sc. Medical Physiology – Applicants should have qualified in a 3 years B.Sc. Degree Examination of a recognized University with Physiology / Biotechnology as main subject with Biology / Botany / Zoology as ancillary subject OR B.Sc. Zoology OR Candidates with B.Sc. Degree in Medical Laboratory Technology from a recognized university.
  • M.Sc. Biostatistics (Medical Biometrics) – A Candidate who has passed the Degree Examination in B.Sc. degree in Statistics (Major) OR B.Sc. degree in Mathematical Science with Statistics as a subject from any recognized University OR an examination of some other University accepted by the institute as equivalent thereto shall be eligible for admission.

For Post Basic Diploma in Nursing (PBD)

  • Must be a registered nurse (R.N. & R.M.) or equivalent.
  • Possess Diploma in General Nursing and Midwifery with one year experience as Staff Nurse or B.Sc.Nursing or equivalent.
  • The prescribed experience will be calculated only after obtaining the license from the state nursing council.
  • Age Limit – The Upper age limit is 40 years as on May 24, 2019 which is the last date of Close of Online Registration i.e. they should have born on or after May 24, 1979 and the age relaxation for SC/ST/OBC/Service candidates are as per Government rules.

For Master of Public Health (MPH)

  • Any applicant with qualification of M.B.B.S Degree / B.D.S (Dental) / B.E., /B.Tech,( Any Branch), (B.Sc. (Nursing) / B.V.Sc. (Veterinary Science) / AYUSH / Allied Health or Social Sciences of any recognized University / Statutory Body, in the first attempt with at least 50% marks in aggregate.
  • TWO years of completed work experience in a public health system is desirable (on or before July 31, 2019)
  • Medical / Nursing Graduates should have registered with their respective state Registration Council.

For Ph.D

A candidate seeking admission to the course of study leading to the award of a Degree of Doctor of Philosophy must possess at least any one of the following qualifications with minimum of one paper published in any indexed journals are alone eligible to apply. The paper should be an original article. Those candidates whose paper had been accepted also are eligible to apply.

  1. Medical qualification: MBBS or MD in the subject concerned as per the requirement of the project or Diplomate of National Board of Examination. Candidates who have obtained any of these degrees from medical colleges which are not recognized by the Medical Council of India shall not be eligible to apply.
  2. Nursing Qualification: Candidates holding M.Sc. degree in Nursing Specialty i.e M.Sc. Medical Surgical Nursing will also be eligible for Ph. D admission in College of Nursing.
  3. Non-Medical Qualification – For nonmedical candidates eligibility shall be Master’s Degree (two / three years course) / awarded by Indian Universities or equivalent in the subject as per requirement of the project. Candidates holding B.Tech. Degree in the subject as per requirement of the project will be eligible for the Non-Medical
    Qualification Category.

Candidates should have at least 60% of the aggregate marks (55% in case of
SC/ST/OBC/OPH candidates) in the qualifying examinations. Candidate possessing Master’s Degree through distant learning course shall not be eligible.

Exam Pattern

The examination was conducted in English medium ONLY.

  • Entrance Examination will be conducted through a Computer Based Test (CBT) [Online] only.
  • Type of Examination: Objective Type
  • Type of Questions: Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs)
  • The duration of the examination shall be 1½ hours (One Hour and Thirty minutes).
  • Marking Scheme: Correct Answer : Four Marks (+) 4
    Incorrect Answer : (-)1 (One) Mark
    Unanswered : 0
  • The venue and time of the examination will be mentioned on the Admit Card
  • No candidate will be permitted to appear in the examination unless he/she holds a valid “Admit Card” issued by the Institute and a proof of their identification.

The Entrance Examination is common to all and consists of 100 single best response type MCQs having four alternatives and the questions will be asked from concerned subjects to the respective course

The allotment of Exam City would be as per the order of preference clicked by the applicant during on-line registration on a FIRST-CUM-FIRST served basis.

Normally the first preference would be allotted. JIPMER, depending upon local conditions, reserves the right to allot any other Exam City other than the preferences given by the applicant.

Counselling

JIPMER counselling, the University will conduct the counselling as per the schedule. Counselling is the process through which the seats are allotted to the students in the colleges on the basis of candidate’s performance in the entrance examination. There will only be 3 rounds in the counselling and 1 final counselling round.
