Eligibility Criteria for JIPMER M.Sc./PBD/M.P.H./Ph.D. Entrance Exam 2020 – 2021
For M.Sc Nursing
- Passed the qualification of B.Sc. Nursing Degree of this Institute or any other
University accepted as equivalent thereof. - Should have registered with the State Registration Council of Nursing and Mid-wifery.
- B.Sc. Nursing graduate should have at least one year of experience in a hospital or in a College or in a School of Nursing or in Community Health Program after registration
with the State Nursing Council. The experience should be complete on or before 01.09.2020. - Minimum of one year of work experience prior or after Post-basic B.Sc. Nursing 01.09.2020
- In case of male candidates, they should have passed any other course recommended by the Indian Nursing Council in the place of Midwifery. Those who have studied Midwifery are eligible only for admission to the branches II and V.
- Candidates shall be medically fit.
- Candidates who have obtained Post Basic B.Sc. Nursing (P.B. B.Sc. Nursing) qualifications from Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) are NOT eligible for admission to M.Sc. (Nursing) course at JIPMER.
For M.Sc. Allied Health Science Courses
- M.Sc. Medical Biochemistry – Applicant should have qualified in a 3 year B.Sc. Degree Examination of a recognized University with Biochemistry or Chemistry as main subject with Biology / Botany / Zoology as ancillary subject OR candidates with B.Sc. Degree in Medical Laboratory Technology from a recognized University.
- M.Sc. MLT–Microbiology – Applicants should have qualified in a 3 years B.Sc. Degree Examination of a recognized University with Medical Lab Technology.
- M.Sc. MLT–Pathology – Applicants should have qualified in a 3 years B.Sc. Degree Examination of a recognized University with Medical Lab Technology.
- M.Sc. Medical Physiology – Applicants should have qualified in a 3 years B.Sc. Degree Examination of a recognized University with Physiology / Biotechnology as main subject with Biology / Botany / Zoology as ancillary subject OR B.Sc. Zoology OR Candidates with B.Sc. Degree in Medical Laboratory Technology from a recognized university.
- M.Sc. Biostatistics (Medical Biometrics) – A Candidate who has passed the Degree Examination in B.Sc. degree in Statistics (Major) OR B.Sc. degree in Mathematical Science with Statistics as a subject from any recognized University OR an examination of some other University accepted by the institute as equivalent thereto shall be eligible for admission.
For Post Basic Diploma in Nursing (PBD)
- Must be a registered nurse (R.N. & R.M.) or equivalent.
- Possess Diploma in General Nursing and Midwifery with one year experience as Staff Nurse or B.Sc.Nursing or equivalent.
- The prescribed experience will be calculated only after obtaining the license from the state nursing council.
- Age Limit – The Upper age limit is 40 years as on the closing date of Online Registration (01.09.2020) and the age relaxation for SC/ST/OBC/EWS/Service candidates are as per Government rules.
For Master of Public Health (MPH)
- Any applicant with qualification of M.B.B.S Degree / B.D.S (Dental) / B.E., /B.Tech,( Any Branch), (B.Sc. (Nursing) / B.V.Sc. (Veterinary Science) / AYUSH / Allied Health or Social Sciences of any recognized University / Statutory Body, in the first attempt with at least 50% marks in aggregate.
- TWO years of completed work experience in a public health system is desirable
- Medical / Nursing Graduates should have registered with their respective state Registration Council.
For Ph.D
A candidate seeking admission to the course of study leading to the award of a Degree of Doctor of Philosophy must possess at least any one of the following qualifications with minimum of one paper published in any indexed journals are alone eligible to apply. The paper should be an original article. Those candidates whose paper had been accepted also are eligible to apply.
- Medical qualification: MBBS or MD in the subject concerned as per the requirement of the project or Diplomate of National Board of Examination. Candidates who have obtained any of these degrees from medical colleges which are not recognized by the Medical Council of India shall not be eligible to apply.
- Nursing Qualification: Candidates holding M.Sc. degree in Nursing Specialty i.e M.Sc. Medical Surgical Nursing will also be eligible for Ph. D admission in College of Nursing.
- Non-Medical Qualification – For nonmedical candidates eligibility shall be Master’s Degree (two / three years course) / awarded by Indian Universities or equivalent in the subject as per requirement of the project. Candidates holding B.Tech. Degree in the subject as per requirement of the project will be eligible for the Non-Medical
Qualification Category.
Candidates should have at least 60% of the aggregate marks (55% in case of
SC/ST/OBC/OPH candidates) in the qualifying examinations. Candidate possessing Master’s Degree through distant learning course shall not be eligible.

- If seats for Entrance Exam are unavailable in the chosen 3 exam cities, nearby (exam) cities will be considered for the venue.
- In case of any unforeseen circumstances, the Exam City can be cancelled at any point of time
- and a new Exam City can be allotted en bloc with due intimation in website/ text message.
