There is no hard and fast rule for PSUs to recruit through GATE only every year. Hence sometimes it may so happen that a PSU has held recruitment on the basis of GATE score in one year and not the next. The vice versa also holds true, that the company has not offered any job on the basis of GATE in one year and may do so the next year. About PSUs in India
Central Public Sector Enterprises (CPSEs) are those companies in India in which the direct holding of central government or other CPSEs is at least 51%. Public sector undertakings or public sector enterprises play a key role in achieving the following objectives.
- For the higher economic growth in India, realize broad macroeconomic goals.
- Attain self sufficiency in goods and services production.
- Balance of payments facilitation.
- Promote and indulge in regional development.
- Creation of job opportunities in different sectors.
On the national level there are 352 listed PSUs. Though some of them have over time either closed, or liquidated or merged. On state levels, there are 1014 listed state government companies.
About GATE
IITs and IISc hold the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering every year for the purpose of offering admission to ME, M.Tech, M.Arch, integrated PhD programs. NITs, IIITs, CFTIs also accept its score for similar programs admissions.
Whereas earlier the GATE exam was only for such admissions, ever since Public Sector Enterprises started accepting GATE scores for its hirings, the registrations for the exam have jumped.
