Railway Recruitment Boards (RRBs) will announce the exam date for RRB NTPC 2019-2020 exam, against CEN 01/2019 soon. And then issue admit cards for the same. Though how soon, no is ready to disclose officially yet.
During this tiresome wait for the event, each govt job aspirant is doing his/her best to prepare better each day. But do you know how high your preparation levels have to be to compete in this exam?
Let us tell you.
Prepare well before the RRB NTPC exam date as competition will be really tough!
For the RRB NTPC CEN 01/2019, the number of vacancies are 35,208.
The number of applicants is 1,26,30,885.
The number of candidates who will be shortlisted for CBT 2, on the basis of CBT 1, will be 20 times the number of vacancies. That is 35208*20, which equals 7,04,160. That is only 5.57% of the total applicants!
This is what Indian railways have mentioned in the notification, word by word.
Total no. of candidates to be shortlisted shall be 20 times the community wise vacancies of posts notified against the RRB as per their merit in 1st Stage CBT cum choice of posts. However, Railways reserve the right to increase/decrease this limit in total or for any specific category(s) as required to ensure availability of adequate candidates for all the notified posts.

Will railways increase the number of qualifiers?
As you can see in the text, railways have full rights to increase or decrease the number. So there are some chances that more than 5.5% could qualify. However, it will not be practical to expect that numbers would get very high.
Wait! Know the competition you will face in CBT 2 also
After CBT 1, there will be CBT 2. Then after CBT 2 there will be skill tests such as computer based aptitude tests, and typing tests.
The number of candidates who will be declared as qualified in CBT 2 for skill tests (CBAT, TT) will be 8 times the number of vacancies. That is 35208*8 = 281664.
If approximately 704160 candidates are qualified in CBT 1 for CBT 2, then from them, 40% will be qualified for skill test.
Thus, in terms of numbers, the level of competition will be lower in CBT 2, than in CBT 1.
So how to prepare for such high competition in RRB NTPC CEN 01/2019?
The purpose of knowing the numbers is not to get demotivated, but to get energized to do better! Picture yourself in the top 5.5% and prepare accordingly.
