The AIBE 2026 (All India Bar Examination 21, also written AIBE XXI) was held on 7 June 2026 (Sunday). Conducted by the Bar Council of India (BCI), AIBE 2026 is a mandatory certification exam for law graduates who wish to practice law in India. What is the AIBE 2026 Examination?

The All India Bar Examination 2026 (AIBE XXI / AIBE 21) is the national-level certification exam conducted by the Bar Council of India. It assesses law graduates’ understanding of substantive and procedural law before granting the Certificate of Practice (CoP), which is mandatory to practice law in India. As per BCI rules, any law graduate who completed an LLB from 2009-10 onwards must clear AIBE within the prescribed period of enrolling with a State Bar Council. AIBE 2026 is open-book – candidates may carry bare acts and reference books into the examination hall.

AIBE 2026 Eligibility Criteria

  • Nationality: Indian citizen. OCI / PIO cardholders with an Indian LLB degree are also eligible.
  • Qualification: 3-year LLB or 5-year integrated LLB from a Bar Council of India-recognised institution.
  • Final-year students: Eligible to appear in AIBE 2026 provided they meet BCI conditions.
  • Compulsory cycle: Law graduates from 2009-10 onwards must clear AIBE to practice law in India.
