Is there an entrance exam for AP GNM 2026-27?
No. AP GNM admission has no entrance test. The DME notification of 22 August 2026 says selection is made purely on merit, on the aggregate marks in the group subjects of your qualifying exam, excluding languages.
Candidates who passed under the compartmental system are placed after those who passed in a single attempt. So your Class 12 group-subject marks decide your rank.

How to Apply for AP GNM 2026-27
You apply online on the DME AP website, then send a printout of the form with your documents. Government schools of nursing and private schools (Free / Convener and Management quota) have separate online applications, so pick the right one.
Apply Online for AP GNM 2026
Applications for AP GNM 2026 are open: 22 August to 24 October 2026. Dates extended again: fee payment and online application up to 24 October 2026; printout to the hospital Superintendent / DM&HO by 27 October 2026, 5:00 PM.
- Pay the Rs 500 registration fee by government challan on cfms.ap.gov.in (Receipts > Citizen Challan Creation, Medical Education Dept). You can pay online or manually at SBI.
- Open the GNM 2026-27 online application from dme.ap.nic.in and fill every mandatory field.
- Enter your name and father’s name exactly as in your SSC (Class 10) certificate. The portal allows no edit or re-submission, and DME accepts no corrections later.
- Submit the form, then download and print the filled-in application.
- Attach attested copies of your certificates and the fee challan, and deliver the printout by 27 October 2026, 5 PM, in person or by registered post.

Where do you send the AP GNM application printout?
For government seats, local candidates send the printout to the Superintendent of a hospital in their region, as listed in the notification. For Convener and Management quota seats in private schools, it goes to the DM&HO of the district.

Who can apply for AP GNM 2026-27?
You can apply if you meet any one of the education routes below and the age rule. Both male and female candidates are eligible.
- 10+2 with English, with at least 40% in the qualifying exam and 40% in English, from any recognised board. State Open School and NIOS are accepted. Science is preferred but not compulsory.
- 10+2 with English and 40% marks in the vocational ANM course from a school recognised by the Indian Nursing Council.
- 10+2 with English and 40% marks in the Vocational Stream (Health Care Science) from a recognised board.
- Registered ANM with a pass mark.
SC and ST candidates get a 5% relaxation in marks. You must be at least 17 years old on 31 December 2026, and there is no upper age limit. You must also be medically fit.
Government school seats are for candidates of Andhra Pradesh only. Candidates from other states seeking private school seats must produce a migration certificate with the application.
How is the AP GNM 2026-27 merit list prepared?
The merit list ranks candidates by aggregate marks in Class 12 group subjects, excluding languages. Selection committees then allot seats by rank, following the reservation rules.
- Government schools of nursing: selection by the Superintendent, KGH Visakhapatnam, for the Andhra region and the Superintendent, SVRR GGH Tirupati, for the Rayalaseema region.
- Private schools (Convener and Management quota): selection by the DM&HO of each erstwhile district.
- For private schools, the Convener prepares a common merit list and a community-wise merit list. Minority schools first admit candidates of their own community.
- Up to 10 extra candidates per school may be kept on a waiting list.
- DM&HOs upload the selection lists on the DME website after selection, which is due by 30 October 2026, 5 PM.
How are AP GNM seats reserved?
Seats follow the state reservation rules within the intake sanctioned by the Indian Nursing Council. The 2026-27 notification lists these shares.

SC, ST and BC candidates must attach the caste certificate in the prescribed format, signed by an officer not below the rank of Mandal Revenue Officer.
How many GNM seats are there in Andhra Pradesh?
Government schools of nursing have 470 GNM seats in 2026-27. The notification’s first list had 215 eligible government and private schools with 11,234 seats, and DME added more schools in four later lists, the latest on 6 October 2026.

Before you join a private school, check its recognition on the Indian Nursing Council and AP Nurses and Midwives Council (APNMC) websites. DME says it is not responsible for admissions in unrecognised schools.
What is the GNM course in Andhra Pradesh?
GNM (General Nursing and Midwifery) is a 3-year diploma course that includes 6 months of internship, taught in schools of nursing attached to hospitals. Admission happens once a year.
Candidates who passed the ANM (MPHW female) course can also join GNM, provided they follow the revised training programme laid down by the Indian Nursing Council. DME warns that if your name in the admission application does not match your SSC certificate, APNMC registration will not be done for you.
