Who can apply for BKNMU PET 2027?

You can apply if you hold a Master’s degree in the PET subject with at least 55% marks in aggregate, without grace marks. These rules are from the PET 2026-27 instructions.

  • SC, ST, OBC (non-creamy layer), EWS and differently-abled candidates get 5% relaxation, so 50% is enough. The same applies if you passed your Master’s before 19 September 1991.
  • A professional degree declared equivalent to a Master’s, or a recognised foreign Master’s, also counts.
  • If your marksheet shows grades, convert them to a percentage and bring an attested conversion certificate to verification.
  • UGC/CSIR JRF, NET, SLET, GSET and Teacher Fellowship holders are exempt from the test. In 2026-27, candidates who cleared BKNMU PET between 1 August 2025 and 2 August 2026 were also exempt. Exempted candidates must still apply online and face the RAC interview.
  • International scholars are exempt from the test but must apply online.

What is the BKNMU PET 2027 exam pattern?

BKNMU PET is a 2-hour offline test of 100 one-mark multiple choice questions in two parts, with no negative marking. The pattern below is from the PET 2026-27 instructions.

The subject-wise syllabus is on the official PET syllabus page. The paper medium for each subject is listed in the PET 2026-27 language notice.

How are BKNMU Ph.D. candidates selected?

Clearing PET makes you eligible for the interview, but your final rank is 70% PET marks and 30% marks from the Research Advisory Committee (RAC) presentation and interview.

  1. BKNMU publishes a provisional result with the answer key on the test day. You can report discrepancies in writing by the next evening.
  2. The final result lists the candidates who reached the qualifying marks.
  3. Qualified and exempted candidates attend physical document verification.
  4. You present your research proposal to the RAC (five hard copies) and face an interview or viva-voce.
  5. BKNMU publishes subject-wise lists of selected candidates as per the Gujarat reservation roster, and coursework starts soon after.

For exempted candidates, the 70% part comes from their JRF, NET, SLET, GSET or earlier PET marks, converted proportionately. Where that exam gives no marks, BKNMU scores academics instead: UG (10), PG (15), M.Phil. (5), JRF, NET or SLET (35) and teaching experience (5).
