Section 1: General Awareness (30 Questions / 30 Marks)

  • Vakya Shuddhi (sentence correction)
  • Apathit Gadyansh (unseen passage / reading comprehension)
  • Ras, Chhand, Alankar (basic literary devices)

English (20 Questions):

  • English grammar – Tense, Voice, Narration, Articles, Prepositions, Conjunctions
  • Synonyms and antonyms
  • One-word substitution
  • Idioms and phrases
  • Sentence correction / error spotting
  • Fill in the blanks
  • Reading comprehension (unseen passage)
  • Vocabulary

Section 3: Logical Reasoning (20 Questions / 20 Marks)

This section tests verbal and non-verbal reasoning at graduation level. The following topics are commonly tested.

  • Number series and letter series
  • Analogies and classification
  • Coding and decoding
  • Blood relations
  • Direction sense test
  • Ranking and order
  • Syllogisms and logical deductions
  • Statement and conclusions / assumptions
  • Seating arrangement and puzzles
  • Venn diagrams
  • Non-verbal reasoning – mirror images, water images, figure series, embedded figures

Section 4: National Commissions & Committees of Education (20 Questions / 20 Marks)

This section tests the candidate’s knowledge of major commissions, committees, statutory bodies, and policy documents that have shaped education in India.

  • Statutory bodies: University Grants Commission (UGC), National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE), National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT), All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE)
  • Pre-Independence Committees: Wood’s Despatch 1854, Hunter Commission 1882, Sadler Commission 1917, Hartog Committee 1929, Wardha Scheme 1937, Sargent Plan 1944
  • Post-Independence Commissions: University Education Commission (Radhakrishnan, 1948–49), Secondary Education Commission (Mudaliar, 1952–53), Indian Education Commission (Kothari, 1964–66)
  • National Policies on Education: NPE 1968, NPE 1986, Programme of Action 1992
  • National Education Policy (NEP) 2020: Salient features, school education reforms, higher education reforms, 5+3+3+4 structure, mother-tongue medium of instruction
  • Acts and Schemes: Right to Education (RTE) Act 2009, Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA), Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan (RMSA), Samagra Shiksha, PM SHRI Schools

Section 5: Teaching Aptitude & Attitude (40 Questions / 40 Marks)

This section, carrying the highest weightage along with Language & Comprehension, evaluates the candidate’s aptitude towards the teaching profession and understanding of learner-teacher dynamics. Important topics are listed below.

  • Nature and Concept of Teaching: Meaning, nature, objectives, characteristics of teaching, levels of teaching (memory, understanding, reflective)
  • Factors Affecting Teaching: Teacher, learner, learning environment, instructional facilities, institutional factors
  • Methods of Teaching: Lecture, demonstration, project, problem-solving, discussion, inductive and deductive, heuristic, micro-teaching, team teaching
  • Learner Characteristics: Adolescent psychology, individual differences, learning styles, cognitive development, motivation, intelligence and creativity
  • Classroom Management: Discipline, classroom organisation, leadership in classroom, dealing with difficult learners
  • Teaching Aids and Technology: Charts, models, audio-visual aids, ICT in education, e-learning, blended learning
  • Evaluation: Formative and summative, continuous and comprehensive evaluation (CCE), types of tests, characteristics of a good test
  • Role and Attitude of Teacher: Professional ethics, attitude towards profession, towards students, towards colleagues; teacher as facilitator and counsellor; communication skills
  • Educational Psychology Basics: Stages of development, learning theories (behaviourism, cognitivism, constructivism), memory and forgetting, transfer of learning

Preparation Tips

  • Read the official syllabus PDF carefully and map each topic against a study source.
  • Focus on Teaching Aptitude & Attitude and Language & Comprehension since they together carry 80 marks out of 150.
  • For General Awareness, give priority to Himachal Pradesh-specific topics, as the syllabus emphasises “Mainly HP & India”.
  • Practise previous year question papers and mock tests in OMR format under timed conditions of 2 hours.
  • Since there is no negative marking, attempt all 150 questions.
