Anna University M.Sc Admission 2018

Anna University, Chennai offers admission to the M.Sc. (2 year) and Integrated M.Sc. (5 year) degree programmes. The University offers M.Sc. (2 years) [Applied Mathematics/ Materials Science/ Medical Physics / Applied Chemistry/ Applied Geology/ Electronic Media (Self-Supporting)] and M.Sc. (5 years) Integrated (Self-Supporting) (Computer Science / Information Technology/ Electronic Media) programmes for the academic year 2018-19.

M.Sc. (2 years) degree programmes offered in the University Departments of College of Engineering Guindy and Madras Institute of Technology Campuses, Anna University, Chennai.

Integrated M.Sc. (5 year) degree programmes – Five year Integrated Programmes leading to M.Sc. (Computer Science/ Information Technology/ Electronic Media) degree are offered at the University Departments of Anna University (College of Engineering Guindy Campus) Chennai under Self-Supporting Scheme.

Hall Ticket/Admit Card

Candidate, who is eligible after verification, can get a Hall Ticket. All the eligible candidates who have registered can download the hall ticket from Anna University Web portal. If a candidate could not download the hall ticket by May 29, 2018, he/she should report to the enquiry office at the Centre for Entrance Examinations, Anna University, Chennai – 25, with a self attested copy of their passport size photograph and evidence for having applied for M. Sc. (2 years) programme. Entrance examination hall ticket should be produced at the time of admission.

Duplicate Hall Ticket / Mark Sheet

After completion of the entrance examination, if the hall ticket is lost, a duplicate hall ticket can be obtained on payment of Rs.100/- on a written requisition to the Director (Admissions), Anna University, Chennai – 600 025, indicating the registration no. and produce self-attested photograph which has been taken from the same negative used for the photo uploaded in the application and hall ticket with a certificate obtained from the Head of the Institution where he/she has studied or is studying or an officer of Grade A or B to the effect that he/she is a genuine candidate who has appeared for the entrance examination. In case, if the mark sheet is lost, a duplicate mark sheet can be obtained on payment of Rs 250/- by a written request to the Director (Admissions), Anna University, Chennai – 600 025. The payment for duplicate hall ticket / mark sheet must be made in the form of a D.D.obtained from any Nationalised Bank drawn in favour of “The Director (Admissions), Anna University”, payable at Chennai.

Eligibility Criteria

For M.Sc. (2 years) Degree Programmes –

The candidate must have passed the degree in the relevant field (as given in Table-1) with (10+2+3 / 4 years) pattern from a recognized University.

Candidates appearing for final semester/year examination in April/ May – 2018 may also apply for admission.

*M.Sc. Medical Physics program, offered by Department of Medical Physics, College of Engineering Guindy Campus, Anna University, Chennai is one of the professional courses dealing with radiation physics, radiation therapy and radiation safety to the public, patients and personnel. As per AERB safety code 2011 (Code No. AERB / RF-MED/SC-1 (Rev.1), it is mandatory that the candidates who complete M.Sc. (Medical Physics) degree should undergo Medical Radiological Safety Officer examination conducted by AERB after undergoing a minimum of 12 months internship in any one of the AERB recognized Radiotheraphy Department to work in the Hospital and Medical institutes as a qualified Medical Physicist or as Radiological Safety Officer.

For Integrated M.Sc. (5 year) Degree Programmes 

  • M.Sc. (Computer Science)/ M.Sc. (Information Technology) : A pass in HSC (Academic), in the first appearance itself, with Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry as three of the four subjects of study prescribed under Part – III or its equivalent with a minimum average mark of 50 % for OC, 45 % for BC, BC (Muslim), 40 % for MBC & DNC and SC/SCA/ST category. The average mark refers to the marks obtained in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry put together.
  • M.Sc. (Electronic Media) : Candidates should have passed the Higher Secondary Examination of 10+2 Curriculum of any group under Part – III or any other Examination of any University (or) authority approved by Anna University, as equivalent there to.
  • Age Limit : The candidate should not have completed 21 years of age as on,01 July 2018. The age is relaxable by 3 years, only for SC/SCA/ST candidates belonging to Tamil Nadu. Candidates appeared for the Qualifying Examination in March / April 2018 may also apply for admission.

Selection and Admission Procedure

The Selection process for M.Sc. (2 years) and Integrated M.Sc. (5 years) degree programmes are given below. Candidates are advised to read carefully all the details.

(A) Selection Process for M.Sc. (2 years) Degree Programmes

A separate entrance examination for 2 hours on the following subjects based on B.Sc. (Major) the standard will be conducted at Anna University, Chennai.

  • Mathematics
  • Physics
  • Chemistry
  • Geology
  • Media Science

Centre for entrance examination: Chennai only

The admission is based on the marks obtained in the Entrance Examination.

Entrance Exam Pattern for M.Sc. (2 years) Programmes

The details of examination are given in –

Tie Breaker: If two candidates have obtained same marks during the preparation of merit list, the candidate having higher average percentage of marks upto pre-final semester/year of the qualifying examination and have passed all the subjects of the qualifying examinations upto pre-final semester / year will be ranked above.

Counseling

Counselling for M.Sc. (2 year) Programmes

Separate merit list will be prepared for each group. Candidates who have secured zero mark / negative mark in the entrance examination are not eligible for admission. More number of candidates than the actual seats available will be called for counseling. Allotment of seats will be through counseling following the rule of reservation of Government of Tamil Nadu. Reservation shall be made under seven categories namely OC, BC (other than BC Muslim), BCM (BC Muslim), MBC / DNC, SC, SCA, and ST. The Counselling will be conducted at Anna University, Chennai – 600 025. Candidates should attend counseling at their own cost with all their original certificates with an initial deposit of Rs. 5000/- through online payment.

Counseling: Candidates can download the counseling call letter for M.Sc. (2 years) degree programmes from annauniv.edu.

(B) Selection Process for Integrated M.Sc. (5 years) Degree Programmes

Merit List for M.Sc. (Computer Science/ Information Technology)

A merit list will be prepared based on the aggregate marks obtained for 300 (Maths-100; Physics-100; Chemistry-100).

In cases where more than one candidate has got the same mark in the common merit list the inter-se merit among such candidates shall be determined in the order of priority as specified below.

  • Percentage of marks obtained in Mathematics
  • Percentage of marks obtained in Physics
  • Percentage of marks obtained in the fourth optional subject and
  • Date of Birth.

Merit List for M.Sc. (Electronic Media)

A merit list will be prepared based on the percentage of marks obtained in the subjects under Part III (Except Part I – Language and Part II – English)

In cases where more than one candidate have got the same mark in the common merit list the inter-se merit among such candidates shall be determined in the order of priority as specified below.

  • Percentage of overall total marks obtained
  • Date of Birth.

Counselling for Integrated M.Sc. (5 years) Degree Programmes

Candidates will be allotted seats through counselling. More number of candidates than the actual seats available will be called for counselling. The number of candidates allotted will be depending upon the seats available, based on the merit of the candidates as per their rank following communal reservation. Anna university will conduct counselling for admission to M.Sc 5 years Degree Programme. All the eligible candidates should download the “Intimation of Counselling” (Call Letter) from Anna University Website http://www.annauniv.edu. Eligible candidates who have applied and whose marks are as specified or above the cut-off mark called for counselling, may appear with their original certificates two hours before the counselling session. College and branch will be allotted only through counselling as per their rank following communal reservation. Counselling will be held at Centre for Entrance Examinations and Admissions, Anna University, Chennai-25 only.
