Anna University M.Sc Admission 2019

Anna University, Chennai offers admission to the M.Sc. (2 year) and Integrated M.Sc. (5 year) degree programmes. The University offers M.Sc. (2 years) [Applied Mathematics/ Materials Science/ Medical Physics / Applied Chemistry/ Applied Geology/ Electronic Media (Self-Supporting)] and M.Sc. (5 years) Integrated (Self-Supporting) (Computer Science / Information Technology/ Electronic Media) programmes for the academic year 2019-20.

M.Sc. (2 years) degree programmes offered in the University Departments of College of Engineering Guindy and Madras Institute of Technology Campuses, Anna University, Chennai.

Integrated M.Sc. (5 years) degree programmes – Five-year Integrated Programmes leading to M.Sc. (Computer Science/ Information Technology/ Electronic Media) degree are offered at the University Departments of Anna University (College of Engineering Guindy Campus) Chennai under Self-Supporting Scheme.

Hall Ticket/Admit Card

All the eligible candidates who register themselves can download the hall ticket from Anna University Web portal. If a candidate can download the hall ticket, he/she should report to the inquiry office at the Centre for Entrance Examinations, Anna University, Chennai – 25, with a self-attested copy of their passport size photograph and evidence for having applied for M. Sc. programme. Entrance examination hall ticket should be produced at the time of admission.

Duplicate Hall Ticket / Mark Sheet

After completion of the entrance examination, if the hall ticket is lost, a duplicate hall ticket can be obtained on payment of Rs.100/- on a written requisition, indicating the registration no. and produce self-attested photograph which has been taken from the same negative used for the photo uploaded in the application and hall ticket with a certificate obtained from the Head of the Institution where he/she has studied or is studying or an officer of Grade A or B to the effect that he/she is a genuine candidate who has appeared for the entrance examination. In case, if the mark sheet is lost, a duplicate mark sheet can be obtained on payment of Rs 250/- by a written request.

The online application form of Anna University M.Sc Admission 2019 was available on the official website. The online application form for admission to the M.Sc. (2 years) degree programmes and M.Sc. (5 years) degree programs through the direct “Apply Online” link were also available for the interested candidates. (Candidates appearing for final semester/year exam. of the Qualifying Degree have to upload a bonafide certificate from the Head of the Institution where the candidate is studying) or upload the photocopy of the University Examination Hall Ticket.
  • Consolidated mark sheet or Mark lists of all the semesters of Qualifying Examination completed.
  • Permanent Community Certificate in card format or electronic form / digitally signed e-Certificate in the case of BC, BC Muslim, MBC / DNC & SC/ SC (Arunthathiyars) / ST candidates belonging to Tamil Nadu.
  • Medical Certificate for the Differently abled person – If applicable.
  • Nativity certificate only in electronic form / digitally signed e-Certificate – If applicable

The candidate must have passed the degree in the relevant field with (10+2+3 / 4 years) pattern from a recognized University. Candidates appearing for final semester/year examination may also apply for admission.

*M.Sc. Medical Physics program, offered by the Department of Medical Physics, College of Engineering Guindy Campus, Anna University, Chennai is one of the professional courses dealing with radiation physics, radiation therapy and radiation safety to the public, patients, and personnel. As per the AERB safety code 2011 (Code No. AERB / RF-MED/SC-1 (Rev.1), it is mandatory that the candidates who complete M.Sc. (Medical Physics) the degree should undergo Medical Radiological Safety Officer examination conducted by AERB after undergoing a minimum of 12 months internship in any one of the AERB recognized Radiotherapy Department to work in the Hospital and Medical institutes as a qualified Medical Physicist or as Radiological Safety Officer.

For Integrated M.Sc. (5 year) Degree Programmes 

  • M.Sc. (Computer Science)/ M.Sc. (Information Technology) : A pass in HSC (Academic), in the first appearance itself, with Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry as three of the four subjects of study prescribed under Part – III or its equivalent with a minimum average mark of 50 % for OC, 45 % for BC, BC (Muslim), 40 % for MBC & DNC and SC/SCA/ST category. The average mark refers to the marks obtained in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry put together.
  • M.Sc. (Electronic Media) : Candidates should have passed the Higher Secondary Examination of 10+2 Curriculum of any group under Part – III or any other Examination of any University (or) authority approved by Anna University, as equivalent there to.
  • Age Limit: The candidate should not have completed 21 years of age as on, 01 July of the year of examination. The age is relaxable by 3 years, only for SC/SCA/ST candidates belonging to Tamil Nadu. Candidates appeared for the Qualifying Examination in March / April 2019 may also apply for admission.

Selection and Admission Procedure

(A) Selection Process for M.Sc. (2 years) Degree Programmes

A separate entrance examination for 2 hours on the following subjects based on B.Sc. (Major) the standard will be conducted at Anna University, Chennai.

  • Mathematics
  • Physics

  • Geology
  • Media Science

The admission is based on the marks obtained in the Entrance Examination.

(B) Selection Process for Integrated M.Sc. (5 years) Degree Programmes

Merit List for M.Sc. (Computer Science/ Information Technology)

A merit list will be prepared based on the aggregate marks obtained for 300 (Maths-100; Physics-100; Chemistry-100).

In cases where more than one candidate has got the same mark in the common merit list the inter-se merit among such candidates shall be determined in the order of priority as specified below.

  • Percentage of marks obtained in Mathematics
  • Percentage of marks obtained in Physics
  • Percentage of marks obtained in the fourth optional subject and
  • Date of Birth.

Merit List for M.Sc. (Electronic Media)

A merit list will be prepared based on the percentage of marks obtained in the subjects under Part III (Except Part I – Language and Part II – English)

In cases where more than one candidate have got the same mark in the common merit list the inter-se merit among such candidates shall be determined in the order of priority as specified below.

  • Percentage of overall total marks obtained
  • Date of Birth.

Counseling

The counseling details for M.Sc Admission 2019 are mentioned below, candidates can check for the same.

Counseling for M.Sc. (2 years) Programs

  • Separate merit list will be prepared for each group. Candidates who secure zero mark / negative mark in the entrance examination will not be eligible for admission.
  • Number of candidates than the actual seats available will be called for counseling. Allotment of seats will be through counseling following the rule of reservation of the Government of Tamil Nadu.
  • Reservation shall be made under seven categories namely OC, BC (other than BC Muslim), BCM (BC Muslim), MBC / DNC, SC, SCA, and ST.

Counselling for Integrated M.Sc. (5 years) Degree Programmes

  • Candidates will be allotted seats through counseling. More number of candidates than the actual seats available will be called for counseling. The number of candidates allotted will be depending upon the seats available, based on the merit of the candidates as per their rank following communal reservation.
  • Anna university will conduct counseling for admission to M.Sc 5 years Degree Programme. If a candidate has deposited all the certificates in an institution in which he/she has already been admitted, a letter from the Head of the Institution should be brought to that effect. In such case only, attested copies of certificates may be considered for verification. Seats will be allotted only when all the original certificates are produced.
  • The provisional rank list will be published in Anna University website.
  • Candidates who do not attend counselling on the prescribed date and time cannot claim any right for admission at a later date and their names will be removed from the merit list.
  • Rank list and counselling schedule (date, time and cut-off mark) will be published in Anna University web portal only. All the eligible candidates should download the “Intimation of Counselling” (Call Letter) from Anna University Web portal.
  • Eligible candidates who have applied and whose marks are as specified or above the cut-off mark called for counselling, may appear with their original certificates.
  • College and branch will be allotted only through counseling as per their rank following communal reservation. Counseling will be held at Centre for Entrance Examinations and Admissions, Anna University, Chennai-25 only. Candidates should attend the counselling at their own cost and risk. Candidates who do not attend the counselling on the specified date and time cannot claim any right for admission at a later date.
