Anna University conducts TANCET for the admission in PG programme, in the colleges of Tamil Nadu. The courses offered under Tamil Nadu Common Entrance Test are MBA, MCA, M.E, M.Tech, M.Plan, and M.Arch. The result for TANCET will be available on the official website. The GATE qualified candidates are exempted from TANCET, however, the aspirant of GATE XE and XL paper need to appear for the exam. Tamil Nadu Common Entrance Test

The application forms for TANCET can be checked and filled from the main website of Anna University for the admissions in MBA / MCA / M.E./ M.Tech./ M.Plan./ M.Arch. Programmes. Of course, to fill the application form a candidate should register himself/herself first and then fill the application form carefully. Eligibility Criteria

There is some eligibility criteria set by the University for the candidates who wish to apply for the test. Candidates can read below the criteria according to the programme they are applying for:

Eligibility Criteria for MBA

  • Candidates who are applying for MBA must have bachelors’ degree with aggregate 50% marks
  • The study pattern for eligible candidates could be 10+2+3/4 years of degree or it can even be 10+ 3 years of diploma or
  • Candidate must have done B.Tech/ B.Arch/ B.E/ B/Pharm
  • Candidate whose study pattern is 10+2+ AMIE/ 10+3 years Diploma + AMIE is also eligible for MBA

Eligibility Criteria for MCA

  • Candidate should have a Bachelor’s degree of minimum 3 years duration with mathematics at 10+2 level or at Graduate level and obtained at least 50 % (45 % in the case of candidates belonging
    to reserved category) in the qualifying degree examination
  • The study pattern for eligible candidates could be 10+2+3/4 years of degree or it can even be 10+ 3 years of diploma or
  • Candidate whose study pattern is 10+2+ AMIE/ 10+3 years Diploma + AMIE is also eligible for MCA

Eligibility Criteria for MCA Lateral Entry

  • Candidate should have a degree in BCA, B.Sc (Computer Science/ IT) with an aggregate of 50% in qualifying exam and mathematics in 10+2 or graduate level
  • Study pattern of applying candidate could be like 10+2+3 years of degree

Eligibility Criteria for M.E/ M.Tech/ M.Arch/ M.Plan

  • Candidate should have a Bachelor’s Degree with an aggregate of 50% marks in qualifying exam
  • Candidate must have done B.E/ B.Tech/ B.Arch Or B.Pharm Or
  • Study pattern of the candidate should be 10+2+ AMIE Or 10+2+ 3 years Diploma + AMI

Category of Candidates applying for M.E./M.Tech./ M.Arch. / M.Plan programmes

Applicants who have applied for TANCET for full time will be grouped as given below:

TANCET Category: Candidates should appear for TANCET if they wish to be considered under TANCET category.

  • GATE Category: Candidates who have a valid GATE score with qualifying marks for assistantship in the appropriate discipline of Engineering /Technology and Candidates who have a valid GATE score with qualifying marks for assistantship in Engineering Science (XE) and Life Science (XL) papers can also appear for TANCET also.
  • Sponsored Category: A limited number of seats (full time only) will be made available for the candidates employed and sponsored by the Government organisations, Government aided educational institutions and registered professional architects with a minimum of 5 years professional experience, under sponsored category. All such candidates who intend to apply under sponsored category have to appear for TANCET.

Selection Process

The selection of the students will be solely based on the marks obtained by the students in the Tamil Nadu Common Entrance Test. The entrance test of TANCET will include certain things which are as follows:

MBA/MCA

Candidates appearing for MBA/MCA programme have to attempt 100 questions of 1 mark each in 2 hours duration. The exam also has negative marking for the wrong answers. For every wrong answer marked deduction of 1/3 mark will be done.

M.E/ M.Tech/ M.Arch/ M.Plan

Candidates appearing for admission in M.E/ M.Tech/ M.Arch/ M.Plan have question paper divided in 3 Parts. Part-I, Part-II, and Part-III with 20, 35 and 60 questions respectively. Paper will be of total 100 marks and time duration given to answer the questions is 2 hours.

The paper will have three (3) parts in which Part 1 will have 20 questions, part 2 will have 35 questions and Part 3 will consist of 60 questions. Each correct answer will get a score of 1 mark and for each wrong answer 1/3 marks will be deducted.
