Cotton University Admission 2027 Important Dates
Cotton University has not announced its 2027-28 admission schedule yet. Going by 2026, the Ph.D. notification is expected in February 2027, UG registration in May 2027 with merit lists in June, and the CPGEE for PG seats in July 2027.

Do you need CUET for Cotton University UG admission 2027?
No CUET was needed in 2026, and the 2027 rule is not announced yet. After its Academic Council meeting of 19 November 2025, Cotton University admitted the 2026 four-year UG (FYUGP) batch only on HS/10+2 marks, as stated in its non-CUET admission notice of 27 March 2026. Check the 2027 notice before you plan around either route.

How to Apply for Cotton University Admission 2027
All applications are online, and each level has its own portal. The steps below follow the 2026 process; the 2027 links open only when the university issues each notice.
Apply Online for Cotton University 2027
Applications for Cotton University 2027 are expected in May 2027.
- For UG, register on the Assam Samarth admission portal when DHE Assam opens 2027 registration, and choose Cotton University and your major subject.
- For PG or Ph.D., open the Cotton University admission portal and use the link for your programme once it is activated.
- Fill in your personal, category and HS/10+2 or degree marks exactly as on your marksheets.
- Upload your photo, signature and documents, including an Assam caste or EWS certificate if you claim a reserved seat.
- Pay the application fee online by UPI, debit card, credit card or net banking, then submit and keep a printout.
- Watch the website for merit lists. UG admission after each merit list is done online on Samarth, followed by physical verification of documents.

Who can apply for Cotton University UG admission 2027?
You need to pass HS/10+2 from a recognised board with the minimum aggregate set for your subject, which was 60% for most subjects and 50% for some languages in the 2026 prospectus. OBC/MOBC (NCL), SC, ST(P) and ST(H) candidates get 5% relaxation, and the minimum marks rule does not apply to specially abled candidates.
- BA (Honours) is open to all streams. BCA (Honours) is open to all streams with pass marks in Mathematics or Applied Mathematics.
- BSc (Honours) needs the Science stream, except Mathematics, Statistics and Geography, which take students from any stream.
- Some subjects also need subject marks, for example 60% in English for English and 50% in Mathematics for Mathematics.
- You are not eligible if more than three years have passed since your qualifying exam.

BA Mass Communication, BSc Biotechnology and BCA are self-financing programmes. Assam reservation is 27% OBC/MOBC (NCL), 7% SC, 10% ST(P), 5% ST(H) and 10% EWS, for residents of Assam with certificates issued in Assam.
How is the Cotton University UG merit list prepared?
The merit list uses your total in the best three subjects of HS/10+2, or the best three science subjects for BSc. Geography uses any best three subjects, and Mathematics and Statistics use the best three science subjects for science students and any best three for arts students.
- ASSEB marks are standardised against CBSE (or the board with the highest best-three total) using an Index Factor, so students of different boards compete fairly.
- Ties go first to the higher HS/10+2 total, then to the higher mark in the honours subject, then to the higher English mark.
- Major subjects are allotted during online admission; the minor subject on Samarth is provisional until physical verification.
- Extra seats go to EC quotas (sports, cultural, NCC, NSS, Scouts and Guides, other states, foreign nationals) and 5% extra seats to specially abled candidates.
How does Cotton University PG admission 2027 work?
Seven PG programmes fill their seats through the Cotton Post-Graduate Entrance Examination (CPGEE). For the full CPGEE guide, see CPGEE 2027. In 2026, half the seats in each programme except MLISc, LLM and M.Com were kept for Cotton graduates of 2025 or 2026, and these too were filled on CPGEE scores.

The 10 open seats in MSc MBBT went on GAT-B 2026 scores, not the CPGEE. Applicants with a gap of more than three years after the qualifying exam were not eligible, except for LLM.
MA and MSc in subjects such as English, Economics, Physics or Mathematics were filled through a separate special admission for Cotton graduates of the three-year honours batch, on CGPA. The minimum was 5.5 CGPA for UR, 5.3 for OBC/MOBC (NCL) and 5.0 for SC, ST(P) and ST(H); this round did not cover the NEP-2023 FYUGP batch.
What is the CPGEE exam pattern?
The CPGEE is a multiple-choice test in a question booklet with an OMR answer sheet, set on Cotton University’s UG syllabus of the subject. CPGEE 2026 was held on 3 July 2026 in three 90-minute subject slots.

How do you get admission to a Ph.D. at Cotton University?
You need a master’s degree with at least 55% marks in a related subject (5% relaxation for SC, ST, OBC, PwD and EWS), and you are selected on an entrance test and an interview. PG fourth-semester students may also apply. The 2026 notice of 19 February 2026 listed seats in 24 departments.
- The entrance test is of 70 marks, with 50% research methodology and 50% subject content. You need 50% in it to reach the interview.
- The interview carries 30 marks; the final merit uses 70% test or NET score and 30% interview.
- UGC-NET, CSIR-NET, GATE, ICMR or DBT fellowship holders go straight to the interview, and NET Category 2 (since June 2024) or Category 3 holders skip the entrance test.
- The application fee was Rs 1,200, paid online.
How does HS first-year admission at Cotton University work?
Cotton University takes Class 11 (HS first year) Science and Arts students only through the DARPAN portal of ASSEB Division-II, where you choose Cotton University as an option. In 2026 the university then ran HS spot admissions and an EC and DA quota with a performance test and interview.
What fees are paid at Cotton University PG admission?
PG students pay their first-semester fee at admission. These were the 2026-27 rates in the PG general information notice:
