Is there an entrance exam for Odisha polytechnic admission 2027?

No. DTET Odisha holds no written test for diploma admission. Its Diploma Admission Committee ranks applicants on the marks of their qualifying exam and fills seats online through SAMS, so there is no admit card, answer key or exam result.

One Common Application Form (CAF) covers these routes:

  • 1st semester Diploma in Engineering and Technology (3 years), after Class 10.
  • 1st year Hotel Management and Catering Technology (HMCT), after Class 12. In 2026-27 it was offered at only one private institute.
  • 3rd semester Diploma in Engineering by lateral entry (2 years), after +2 Science, +2 Vocational or a 2-year ITI.
  • 3rd semester lateral entry for working professionals, in eligible branches only.

The process covers all seats in government and private polytechnics and engineering schools of Odisha. For 2025-26, AICTE approved 162 polytechnics (35 government or aided and 127 private) with an intake of about 61,725 seats.

  • There is no lateral entry to Architectural Assistantship or non-engineering courses.
  • If you passed with a compartment, the marks of your first attempt are used.
  • Students who have not yet received their qualifying exam result can also apply and add their marks later.

How is the Odisha polytechnic merit list prepared?

The committee ranks you by your effective mark: your percentage in the qualifying exam, counting all subjects including optional ones, rounded to two decimals. National-level sports players get 10% and NCC A or B certificate holders get 5% extra weightage, up to a maximum of 100.

If two 1st semester applicants have the same effective mark, the one with higher Mathematics marks ranks higher, then Science, then English, and then the older candidate. For lateral entry, ties go by Trade Theory marks for ITI candidates and by Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics marks for +2 candidates.

How does Odisha polytechnic seat allotment work?

SAMS allots seats in a first round and a final round, using your merit, category and the choices in your CAF. You see your result by logging in to the SAMS Diploma student login with your registered mobile number and password.

  1. Check your provisional allotment after the round is published (at 3:00 PM on the result day in 2026).
  2. Pay the part admission fee of Rs 300 online on SAMS. Women, PVTG and Green Passage candidates allotted a government institute do not pay it.
  3. If you got your first choice, download the allotment letter and report at the allotted institute on the given dates.
  4. If you got a lower choice, either click Freeze to lock the seat and report, or wait for an upgrade in the final round.
  5. At the institute, show your original documents, pay the admission fee and confirm your seat. If you do not report in time, the seat is forfeited.

Once you take admission in a round, you cannot take part in later rounds. After the final round, SAMS publishes an institute and branch-wise vacancy report, and the remaining seats go to spot admission.

How does Odisha polytechnic spot admission work?

Spot admission is held at the institutes after the online rounds. Anyone registered on SAMS can take part, including new applicants who register during the spot round, those who were not allotted a seat and those who did not report.

  • Visit the institute you want, submit the tagging declaration form and show your original documents.
  • Carry the mobile whose number is registered on SAMS, because tagging needs an OTP.
  • At government institutes, tagging runs from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM, the institute’s merit list comes out on SAMS at 3:00 PM, and branches are allotted on merit after that.
  • Private institutes can tag and admit candidates until 11:59 PM on each spot day.

In 2026 there were three spot phases, the last from 1 to 14 September 2026. In Phase III, vacant seats were carried forward without reservation.
