Punjab Polytechnic Admission 2027: PSBTE Diploma Merit, Counselling

Punjab Polytechnic Admission 2027 is not an entrance exam. The Punjab State Board of Technical Education and Industrial Training (PSBTE & IT) fills diploma seats in Punjab and Chandigarh polytechnics on qualifying-exam merit, through online counselling at pbdiploma.admissions.nic.in. Registration for 2027-28 is expected from May 2027.

This page explains how Punjab diploma admission works for 2027-28: dates, who can apply, how to register, how seats are allotted, how to check your result, documents and fees.

Is there an entrance exam for Punjab polytechnic admission 2027?

No. PSBTE & IT holds no written test for diploma admission. Under the Government of Punjab notification for 2026-27, seats go on the relative merit of the qualifying exam, through web-based online counselling run with NIC. There is no admit card, answer key or exam centre.

Some websites still mention a Punjab JET entrance test for polytechnic admission. The official 2026-27 notification and prospectus have no such test. One counselling covers five streams:

• Diploma in engineering and technology, and Diploma in Architectural Assistantship, after Class 10.
• Diploma in Modern Office Practice (MOP), after Class 12.
• Diploma in Pharmacy (two years), after Class 12 with science.
• Lateral entry to the second year of diploma engineering, after Class 12 or Class 10 plus a 2-year ITI.
• Diploma engineering for working professionals, with at least one year of full-time work.

Seats cover government, aided and private polytechnics in Punjab and the Union Territory of Chandigarh that are affiliated with PSBTE & IT and approved by AICTE, PCI or the Council of Architecture.

Punjab Polytechnic Admission 2027 Important Dates

PSBTE & IT has not announced the 2027-28 schedule, so the 2027 dates below are expected months. Registration opened on 15 May in both 2025 and 2026, and 2026 Round 1 results came out on 19 June 2026.

How to Apply for Punjab Polytechnic Admission 2027

You apply online only, on the PSBTE counselling portal at pbdiploma.admissions.nic.in. Registration is compulsory for every seat, including management quota seats, and the same registration is used for choice filling and allotment.

1. Open the counselling portal and click the Common Registration link for PSBTE diploma courses.
2. Choose Fresh Candidate Registration and fill in your personal, contact and qualifying exam details.
3. Upload your certificates. Reserved-category certificates must be uploaded now, in the format approved by the government.
4. Pay the registration fee online. PSBTE & IT does not accept it offline.
5. Log in during choice filling and list the institutes and branches you want, in order of preference.
6. After the result, report to the allotted institute with original documents and pay the admission fee online to confirm your seat.

Fees for 2027-28 will be confirmed in the new prospectus. PSBTE & IT announces the schedule in newspapers and on its websites and sends no separate letters to candidates.

How to Check the Punjab Polytechnic 2027 Seat Allotment Result

The candidate login on the counselling portal is where you fill choices and see your allotment result after each round.

1. Open pbdiploma.admissions.nic.in and go to the Candidate Activity Board.
2. Select the PSBTE Diploma Common Counselling for your year.
3. Enter your user ID, password and the security pin shown on screen (the pin is case sensitive).
4. Open the allotment result to see the institute and branch allotted to you.
5. Report to that institute within the round’s dates and pay the fee online to confirm the seat.

Forgot your password? Use the Forgot Password link on the sign-in page, which resets it through an OTP. PSBTE & IT does not post individual results anywhere else.

Who can apply for Punjab polytechnic admission 2027?

Eligibility depends on the stream. These rules are from the Government of Punjab notification of 13 May 2026 and the 2026-27 prospectus.

• Diploma engineering and architecture: Class 10 (SSC) pass, as laid down by AICTE (and CoA for architecture).
• Modern Office Practice: Class 12 pass from a recognised board.
• Pharmacy: Class 12 (science) with Physics, Chemistry and Biology or Mathematics, or a PCI-approved equivalent.
• Lateral entry: Class 12 with the subjects AICTE lists for the branch (for example Physics, Chemistry and Maths for Civil or Mechanical), or Class 10 plus a 2-year ITI, or Class 12 vocational, or a 3-year AICTE diploma in another branch.
• Working professionals: a lateral-entry qualification plus at least one year of full-time work at a registered employer within 75 km of the institute.

For 2026-27, 85% of seats were for Punjab candidates and 15% were open to all India. Punjab seats need Punjab residence, or a matriculation pass from a PSEB, CBSE, ICSE or NIOS school in Punjab, with a domicile certificate from the head of the institution last attended.

Lateral entry seats are extra seats up to 10% of the sanctioned intake, plus first-year seats left unfilled.

How are Punjab polytechnic merit and seats decided?

Seats go on your relative merit in the qualifying exam, your choices, your category and the seats left. If you would get a better choice as a general candidate, you are placed there and your reserved seat goes to the next candidate of that category.

Reservation follows Government of Punjab policy for Punjab institutes and UT Chandigarh policy for Chandigarh institutes. You can claim only one reserved category, and the certificate must be issued by the last date of counselling. One-third of seats in unaided institutes are management quota seats.

PSBTE & IT has not published closing ranks or cut-off marks, so no official cut off is available for Punjab polytechnic admission.

What documents do you need for Punjab polytechnic admission 2027?

• Detailed marks sheet of the qualifying exam.
• Matriculation certificate (for date of birth).
• Character certificate from the institution last attended.
• Punjab residence or domicile certificate, for the 85% state seats.
• Reserved-category certificate, if claimed (a Backward Class certificate must not be more than one year old).
• Income certificate, for a tuition fee waiver seat.
• Equivalency certificate or PM Care certificate, where applicable.

Carry the originals, attested copies and two recent stamp-size photographs to the institute. You do not visit the nodal centre yourself; it verifies documents and the institute tells you the outcome.

What fees do you pay after a Punjab polytechnic allotment?

You pay the admission fee online when you confirm your seat. For 2026-27, institutes in Punjab charged these amounts at admission:

Punjab SC/ST students with family income below Rs 2.5 lakh pay only Rs 1,133 at admission. Five percent extra seats in each institute are tuition fee waiver seats for family income up to Rs 8 lakh, and the Chief Minister Scholarship in government institutes waives 70% to 100% of tuition for 60% or more marks in the qualifying exam.
