What is the Assam Polytechnic admission process?

The Assam Polytechnic 2026 admission is a state-level intake process conducted by the Directorate of Technical Education (DTE), Assam for entry into 3-year Diploma in Engineering and Technology courses offered at 26 State Government Polytechnics (plus seats allocated outside Assam by the Government of India). Importantly, the Polytechnic Admission Test (PAT) has been discontinued, so there is no separate written entrance exam. Assam Polytechnic 2026 Application Form – Apply Online

The Assam Polytechnic 2026 application form from DTE Assam is live in online mode only. Eligible candidates who have passed (or are appearing) the HSLC/Class 10 examination with Mathematics and Science as compulsory subjects can complete their registration at dte-assamadm.samarth.ac.in. There is no offline application route, and the previously conducted Assam PAT entrance test is not required. How to Apply for Assam Polytechnic Admission

Follow these steps to complete the Assam Polytechnic 2026 application correctly:

  • Visit the official portal – Go to dte-assamadm.samarth.ac.in.
  • Complete new registration – Provide your basic details (name, mobile, email) and create an account.
  • Log in and fill the form – Enter personal information, academic details, HSLC marks, and choice of polytechnic and branch.
  • Upload documents – Photograph, signature, HSLC marksheet, and caste/category certificate (if applicable).
  • Pay the application fee – ₹300 (plus applicable taxes) online via Debit/Credit card, Net Banking, or UPI.

Application Fee

The one-time, non-refundable application fee is ₹300 (plus applicable taxes), payable online only – through Debit/Credit card, Net Banking, or UPI via SBI ePay. Candidates should be cautious of fraudsters demanding any additional amount during the application stage; only the ₹300 application fee is collected online during form fill-up. Other admission-related fees are paid only after physical reporting at the allotted polytechnic.

Eligibility Criteria

Before applying, candidates should confirm that they meet the eligibility norms set by DTE Assam:

  • Nationality – Must be an Indian citizen and a permanent resident of Assam.
  • Educational qualification – Must have passed the HSLC (Class 10) or equivalent examination in a single sitting with Mathematics and Science as compulsory subjects.
  • Age limit – Minimum 16 years as on 31 December 2026 (i.e., born on or before 31 December 2010). There is no upper age limit.
  • Compartmental candidates – Not allowed to take admission.

Selection Process – Merit-Based Admission

Selection for the 2026 admission cycle is purely merit-based. Since the PAT entrance exam has been discontinued, no written test is conducted. Instead, DTE Assam prepares the merit list using marks secured in the qualifying HSLC examination. The published merit list considers:

  • Aggregate HSLC (Class 10) marks of registered candidates
  • Reservation rules for SC, ST, OBC, EWS, and other special categories as per Government of Assam norms
  • Sports, NCC, and other special quotas where applicable

Only candidates who complete the registration before the deadline are considered for the merit list. After publication, choice filling and seat allotment are conducted online.

Assam Polytechnic 2026 Counselling and Seat Allotment

After the merit list is released, eligible candidates participate in the centralised online counselling. Key steps include:

  • Login – Sign in at the Samarth portal using your registration credentials.
  • Choice filling – Select preferred polytechnics and branches in order of preference.
  • Seat allotment – Seats are allotted based on merit rank, category, choices, and seat availability.
  • Allotment letter – Download the provisional allotment letter from the portal.
  • Reporting – Report to the allotted polytechnic on the scheduled date for document verification and admission fee payment.
  • Freeze or upgrade – After admission, candidates can choose to freeze the allotted seat or wait for the upgrade round.

    Sir, I am SC category but I had been applied in general category due to non receipt of SC certificate in time,now I would like to entry with SC category in lieu off general category as well as already been received SC certificate from the competent authority.Please to help me for submission of SC certificate for the purpose of polytechnic counselling & admission in PAT,2019 at Guwahati.I have got 41 marks in PAT,2019 examination.
