Is there a DTE Assam entrance exam?
No. DTE Assam does not hold an entrance exam. It admits students to 3-year diploma courses at government polytechnics on their Class 10 (HSLC) marks, and it runs the counselling for B.Tech, B.Tech lateral entry and MCA seats after Assam Science and Technology University (ASTU) holds the entrance tests.

The old Polytechnic Admission Test (PAT) is no longer the route into Assam polytechnics. Since a Government of Assam approval of 3 April 2024, SCTE Assam admits diploma students on HSLC marks, and the 2026-27 brochure lists no test.

DTE Assam has not announced any 2027-28 dates yet, so the table shows expected months based on 2026, when polytechnic registration ran from 24 April to 10 May 2026 and B.Tech counselling opened in July 2026.

How to Apply for DTE Assam Admission 2027
You apply to DTE Assam online, but the route depends on the course. For a polytechnic diploma you register directly on DTE’s admission portal after Class 10. For B.Tech, lateral entry or MCA you first take the ASTU entrance test, then register for DTE counselling with your entrance application number.
Apply Online for DTE Assam 2027
Applications for DTE Assam 2027 are expected in April 2027.
- Watch dte.assam.gov.in for the 2027-28 educational notice for your course. In 2026 the polytechnic notice came on 26 March and the B.Tech counselling notice on 9 July.
- Polytechnic: register on the polytechnic admission portal, fill in the form, upload your HSLC mark sheet, PRC and category certificates, and fill your choices of branches and polytechnics.
- B.Tech, lateral entry or MCA: log in to the DTE counselling portal with your CEE, JLEE or JMEE application number (plus date of birth for CEE), then upload your documents and fill your choices.
- Pay the non-refundable registration fee online. A polytechnic application counts as complete only when the portal shows the payment as successful.
- Answer any call, SMS or email from the verifying officer while your documents are checked. Applications that do not respond in time can be rejected.
- Check the seat allotment, accept your seat on the portal, download the allotment letter and report to the allotted college for physical document verification.

The 2027-28 fees will be confirmed in the new brochures. For the B.Tech, lateral entry and MCA entrance tests themselves, you pay ASTU separately when you apply for CEE, JLEE or JMEE.
Who can apply for Assam polytechnic admission through DTE?
You can apply for a diploma seat if you passed HSLC or an equivalent Class 10 exam with Mathematics and Science and you are a permanent resident of Assam. The rules below are from the 2026-27 brochure and may be revised for 2027-28.

Eligibility for B.Tech, lateral entry and MCA seats follows the CEE, JLEE and JMEE rules. For example, lateral entry needs a 3-year engineering diploma from Assam, as explained on the Assam JLEE 2027 page.
How does DTE Assam counselling work?
DTE Assam allots seats online by rank, category, choices and seat availability, and then fills leftover seats in spot rounds held at the colleges.
- DTE verifies the uploaded documents and prepares the merit or rank list.
- Seats are allotted in online rounds by eligibility, rank, category, choice and vacancy.
- You accept the seat on the portal, download the allotment letter and report to the allotted institute on the given date.
- The institute checks your original documents and grants or cancels admission.
- You choose to freeze the seat or ask for an upgrade in the next round, and tell the institute.
- Vacant seats go to spot rounds. In 2026, polytechnic spot rounds 2 and 3 and the B.Tech spot rounds were open to unregistered candidates too.
In spot rounds, unfilled reserved seats may be de-reserved to the unreserved category under a Government of Assam order of 3 April 2024. Students already admitted to one of the 26 government polytechnics cannot join a polytechnic spot round, and those admitted to one of the seven government engineering colleges cannot join a B.Tech spot round.

DTE Assam admits students to 26 government polytechnics and to the state government engineering colleges.
- Polytechnics: 26 government polytechnics with 4,385 diploma seats in 21 programmes in 2026-27, including two for girls only (PCPS Girls’ Polytechnic, Guwahati and Residential Girls’ Polytechnic, Golaghat).
- Engineering colleges: Assam Engineering College, Jorhat Engineering College, Jorhat Institute of Science and Technology, Bineswar Brahma Engineering College, Barak Valley Engineering College, Golaghat Engineering College and Dhemaji Engineering College.
- CSAB NEUT: DTE Assam verifies domicile and category documents for Assam candidates and held the CSAB NEUT spot round 2 at its Guwahati office on 28 August 2026.
