What topics come in the clinical nursing subjects?
Six clinical subjects form the core of the paper, and they follow the B.Sc Nursing course.
- Nursing Foundations: health and wellness, nursing process and care plans, documentation, vital signs, health assessment, infection control, administering medication, first aid, perioperative care, unconscious and terminally ill patients
- Medical Surgical Nursing: care of surgical patients, anaesthesia, disorders of respiratory, cardiovascular, blood, gastrointestinal, musculoskeletal, genito-urinary, nervous and endocrine systems, eye and ear, communicable diseases, HIV and AIDS, oncology and emergency nursing
- Child Health Nursing: newborn care, low birth weight, neonatal jaundice and infections, congenital anomalies, weaning and child nutrition, pre- and post-operative care of children, childhood diseases and emergencies
- Mental Health Nursing: mental illness and attitudes, diagnosis and management (drug therapy, shock therapy, psychotherapy, behaviour therapy), care of overactive, destructive, suicidal and depressed patients, admission and discharge
- Midwifery and Gynaecological Nursing: normal pregnancy and antenatal care, stages of labour, newborn assessment, puerperium and breastfeeding, high-risk pregnancy, malpresentations, obstetric operations and drugs, infertility, gynaecological disorders
- Community Health Nursing: community health concepts, demography and family welfare, CHC, PHC and sub-centre health teams, vital health statistics, health education and communication
What topics come in Anatomy, Physiology and Microbiology?
The science subjects test basic body systems and infection control.
- Anatomy and Physiology: skeletal, muscular, cardiovascular, respiratory, digestive, excretory, nervous, endocrine and reproductive systems, blood and sense organs
- Microbiology: classification and growth of micro-organisms, sources and transmission of infection, specimen collection, immunity and the immunisation schedule, sterilisation, disinfection, biosafety and waste management
What is asked from Informatics, Communication, Research and Management?
Four subjects cover the professional side of nursing.
- Computers and Nursing Informatics: computer basics, uses of computers, patient record systems, e-nursing, telemedicine, telenursing and electronic medical records
- Communication and Educational Technology: communication process, interpersonal relations, guidance and counselling, methods of teaching, health education and mass media
- Nursing Research and Statistics: research process and designs, sampling, data collection, frequency distribution, mean, median, mode, standard deviation, correlation, normal probability, t-test, chi-square and SPSS
- Nursing Management: principles of management and administration, managing nursing services, INC and State Nursing Council Acts, professional ethics, legal aspects of nursing and patient rights

How should I prepare for the CG M.Sc Nursing syllabus?
- Revise your B.Sc Nursing textbooks subject by subject; every topic in the syllabus comes from that course.
- Give Medical Surgical, Midwifery and Child Health Nursing extra time, as their topic lists are the longest.
