Gauhati University PG Admission 2027 is done through the Gauhati University Post Graduate Entrance Test (GU PGET 2027), conducted by Gauhati University, Guwahati. It is the entrance for MA, M.Sc, M.Com, LLM, M.Tech and other Master’s programmes at the GU campus and its affiliated colleges. Applications are expected in June 2027 and the offline exam in July 2027.

Gauhati University PG Admission 2027 Important Dates
Gauhati University has not released the PGET 2027 schedule, so the dates below are expected months based on 2026, when the form was open from 6 to 16 June, the exam was held from 8 to 10 July and the provisional merit lists came out on 23 July.

How to Apply for GU PGET 2027
You apply online only, on the GU Samarth PG admission portal. One form covers up to three PGET subjects, and the fee depends on how many subjects you choose.
Apply Online for GU PGET 2027
Applications for GU PGET 2027 are expected in June 2027.
- Read the PGET 2027 admission notice on admissions.gauhati.ac.in once it is out, and check the eligibility row of each programme you want.
- Open the GU Samarth PG portal and register with your own email ID and mobile number. Your registered email ID and password are your login for the admit card and admission.
- Log in and choose your subjects: at most one Traditional programme and two Interdisciplinary programmes, and never two subjects in the same session on the same day.
- Fill in your academic and category details and upload your marksheets, category certificate (if any), ID proof and photograph.
- Pay the entrance fee online by debit card, credit card or internet banking. The form counts as submitted only after the payment succeeds and an online receipt is generated.
- Save the receipt. The admit card is issued on the same portal before the exam.

These are the 2026 fees; the 2026 notice set the same fee for all candidates. In 2026 the last date was extended by one day to 16 June because of problems on the Samarth portal, and a correction window followed on 17 and 18 June.
Who can apply for GU PGET 2027?
You need a graduate or FYUGP degree in the subject you want to study, and each programme sets its own rule. These are the 2026 rules:
- Traditional programmes (such as MA in Assamese, English or History, M.Sc in Physics or Chemistry, and M.Com): the subject as Major or Honours, or at least 24 credits in it through a regular course.
- Interdisciplinary programmes: department-specific rules, and some ask for a minimum score, such as 55% marks or CGPA 6.0, or 50% marks or CGPA 5.
- LLM: an LLB degree with 50% marks, with 5% relaxation for reserved categories.
- Students waiting for their 6th semester result, even with a backlog, can take PGET and get provisional admission, but must submit the final grade sheet within 7 days of the result.
There is no common minimum percentage for all programmes, so check your programme’s row in the admission notice before you apply.
Which programmes can you join through GU PGET 2027?
PGET covers the Master’s programmes of the GU campus and the PG seats of its affiliated colleges. The 2026 notice listed two groups:
- Traditional programmes: MA in Anthropology, Arabic, Assamese, Bengali, Bodo, Economics, Education, English, Hindi, History, Persian, Philosophy, Political Science and Sanskrit; M.Sc in Anthropology, Botany, Chemistry, Economics, Geography, Geology, Mathematics, Physics, Statistics and Zoology; M.Com; and LLM.
- Interdisciplinary programmes: among others, M.Sc in Biotechnology, Microbiology, Computer Science and IT, Environmental Science and Wildlife Science; MA in Mass Communication, Linguistics, Folklore Studies, Sociology, Women’s Studies and Performing Arts; M.Lib.I.Sc; Master of Tourism Management; and M.Tech programmes such as Information Technology, VLSI and Microelectronics, and AI and ML (Modular).
The affiliated colleges announce their own admission dates. The MBA, the LGBRIMH Tezpur programmes and M.Tech through GATE had separate admission notices in 2026.
What is the GU PGET 2027 exam pattern?
Each PGET subject is a separate 2-hour offline paper of 100 multiple-choice questions. This is the 2026 pattern:

How are GU PG seats filled after PGET?
Selection is based only on PGET marks, and a separate provisional merit list is made for each programme. In the Traditional programmes, half the seats are kept for Gauhati University graduates and half are open to graduates of all universities, GU included (30:70 for M.Sc Geology). Interdisciplinary seats are open to all.
