No. WBJEEB conducted PUMDET for the last time on 28 July 2024, and no PUMDET has been announced since. Presidency University now fills its open-quota master’s seats through its own notice on presiuniv.ac.in, and the method has changed from year to year.

  • 2025-26: admission to 20 MA and MSc subjects on academic score only (60% Honours marks + 40% Class 12 aggregate), with no test and no application fee.
  • 2026-27: the university’s own 2-hour admission test on 18 July 2026, for only three MSc courses: Astrophysics, Biotechnology, and Virology and Immunology.

If you were preparing for PUMDET, check the new notice for your subject before you plan. For the test-based MSc courses, the old PUMDET question papers are still useful subject practice.

What is the Presidency University PG admission test pattern?

The 2026 admission test was an offline MCQ paper answered on an OMR sheet in 2 hours, with 2 marks for a correct answer and 0.5 deducted for a wrong one. The paper was in English only and each question had one correct answer.

CourseQuestionsDate and time (2026)
Astrophysics25 MCQs18 July, 12 noon to 2 PM
Biotechnology / Virology and Immunology (one common paper)50 MCQs18 July, 12 noon to 2 PM

All tests were held at the first campus, 86/1 College Street, Kolkata 700073, and candidates had to report at least one hour before the start. The admit card was issued on 14 July 2026.

How is the Presidency University PG merit list prepared?

The university prepares a General Merit Rank (GMR) list for each course, and seats are allotted on the GMR only. In 2026-27 the rank came from the Admission Test Score, and you had to score more than 0 to be placed on the list.

  • A tie is broken by your overall graduation CGPA or aggregate marks; if still tied, candidates share the rank.
  • In 2026 the provisional General Merit List was due on 28 July and counselling for selection-cum-admission on 31 July 2026.
  • When there was no test (2025-26), the academic score was 60% of Honours marks plus 40% of Class 12 aggregate (Class 12 Mathematics for Applied Economics).

What was PUMDET, and do its old papers still help?

PUMDET was the Presidency University Master’s Degree Entrance Test, conducted by WBJEEB for admission to the university’s MA and MSc courses. It had one paper per subject, each with 50 MCQs for 100 marks in 90 minutes on an OMR sheet, with +2 for a correct answer and -0.5 for a wrong one. PUMDET-2024 was held on 28 July 2024 with a Rs 500 fee.

The 2026 university test is longer (2 hours) and covers fewer courses, so use old papers for subject practice, not as an exact model. The PUMDET Health Sciences paper (for Biotechnology, Virology and Immunology and Molecular Microbiology) and the Physics/Astrophysics paper are the closest match to the current MSc tests. For undergraduate admission, see PUBDET 2027.
