Who can apply for Sikkim MBBS and BDS state quota seats?

You can apply if you have qualified NEET UG and you or your father holds a Sikkim Subject Certificate or Certificate of Identification (COI).

  • Qualifying NEET UG is mandatory; seats are allotted on NEET marks, with NEET tie-break rules for equal marks.
  • A Sikkim Subject Certificate or COI of the candidate or the father is required.
  • A COI issued under Category 5 of the 1996 notification (meant only for employment) is not accepted.
  • Others category candidates need one of: a Residential Certificate, mother’s Sikkim Subject Certificate or COI, a valid trade licence in the father’s name, or a certificate that a parent is a regular Sikkim Government employee.
  • You must also meet the NMC eligibility for MBBS and BDS that applies to NEET UG candidates.

How are Sikkim MBBS state quota seats reserved?

Seats follow the Sikkim reservation policy, applied to all 123 MBBS seats. This was the 2026-27 split under the notification of 29 August 2026.

CategoryReservationSeats (2026-27)BPL seats within
Merit (incl. 1 Sports and 1 PwD seat at HLSGMC free seats)10%12–
Bhutia Lepcha (BL)20%253
Primitive Tribe (PT)5%61
OBC (Central)20%253
OBC (State)20%243

Scheduled Caste (SC)7%91
Others5%6–

Below Poverty Line candidates get 12% horizontal reservation and pick a college before others of their category. Where BL, OBC (Central) and OBC (State) tie for a leftover seat, the seat now rotates; in 2026-27 it went to BL and OBC (Central), and the next cycle starts from OBC (State). Check the roster and cut-off trends on the Sikkim NEET cut off page.

How does Sikkim MBBS and BDS counselling work?

Counselling is held in person in Gangtok, and you must be present on the date; in 2026 it was at the TNSS School auditorium on 7 September.

  • The first 10% of seats go to the top candidates on merit; the rest are allotted category by category in roster order.
  • Each category’s top candidate picks a seat in turn: BL, then PT, OBC (Central), OBC (State), ST and SC, until every category except Others gets its share.
  • Category seats left with no eligible candidate go to the next candidate on overall merit.
  • Mark your attendance at the venue at least 30 minutes before counselling starts. An independent observer oversees the allotment.
  • Seats received after the first round, or left vacant, are offered in a later round; in 2026 a vacant-seat round was held on 23 September.
  • Once you take a state quota seat you cannot get another one, but a candidate who took another PCB course seat can upgrade to MBBS.
  • Candidates on the 50 free MBBS seats lose the State sponsorship if they are detained in any year.

What documents do you need for Sikkim NEET counselling?
