Two Merit Ranks: GMR and BMR
WBJEEB prepares two separate merit ranks based on the papers a candidate appears in. Furthermore, both ranks are independent of each other.
- GMR (General Merit Rank): Based on Paper-I score; used for admission to all 12 courses except BHA.
- BMR (BHA Merit Rank): Based on Paper-II score; used only for admission to the BHA programme.
- Candidates who appear in both papers are eligible for both ranks. Consequently, they can compete for all 13 courses.
Details on Rank Card
The scorecard issued by WBJEEB carries the following information for each candidate:
- Candidate’s name
- Roll number and application number
- Date of birth, gender, and category
- Paper(s) appeared in
- Subject-wise scores in Paper-I and/or Paper-II
- Total marks scored (out of 115 per paper)
- General Merit Rank (GMR) and/or BHA Merit Rank (BMR)
- Category rank (if applicable – SC, ST, OBC-A, OBC-B, EWS, PwD)
- Qualifying status
Tie-Breaking Rules
If two or more candidates obtain identical total marks, the Board applies a sequence of tie-breakers to assign distinct ranks. The criteria used by WBJEEB for Paper-I are listed below in priority order.
- Less negative marks in total.
- More positive marks in Biology.
- More positive marks in Chemistry.
- More positive marks in Physics.
- More positive marks in English.
- More positive marks in Biology and Chemistry taken together.
- If tie still persists, older date of birth (DOB) gets preference.
- Finally, earlier application number gets the higher rank.
For Paper-II, the tie-breakers are applied in sequence: less negative marks in total, more positive in Physical Science, more positive in English, more positive in Logical Reasoning, then older DOB, then earlier application number.
After Result: Counselling
Qualified candidates need to participate in the centralised counselling conducted by WBJEEB for seat allotment in Nursing & Allied Health Sciences UG courses. The counselling process broadly involves the following stages:
- Registration: Eligible candidates register on the counselling portal by paying the prescribed fee.
- Choice Filling: Candidates fill and lock their preferences for institutes and courses.
- Seat Allotment: The Board allots seats based on GMR/BMR, choice, category, and seat availability.
- Reporting: Allotted candidates pay the seat acceptance fee and report to the designated institute with original documents.
- Upgradation Rounds: Subsequent rounds are held to fill vacant seats and allow upgradation.
All admitted candidates must submit a valid Medical Fitness Certificate at the institute. Furthermore, PwD candidates must report in person for physical verification at designated Government Medical Colleges across five divisions of West Bengal.
