This page explains how 1st-year polytechnic diploma admission in West Bengal works now that JEXPO is not held: dates, how to apply, eligibility, merit rules and seats.

Is JEXPO 2027 being held?
No. Since the 2024-25 session, admission to the 1st year of polytechnic diploma courses in West Bengal is made on a merit list prepared from your Class 10 marks, with no written test. The Technical Education, Training & Skill Development (TET&SD) Department’s notification of 12 March 2026 confirmed merit-based admission for 2026-27 through the Common Admission Portal.
The last written JEXPO was held on 3 June 2023. It was a 2-hour, 100-mark OMR test (Mathematics 40, English 20, Aptitude 20, Physics 10, Chemistry 10) with no negative marking. Its memory-based papers are kept on the JEXPO previous year papers page, but you do not need to prepare for any entrance test now.

How to Apply for JEXPO 2027 (polytechnic 1st Year Admission)
You apply online only, on the Common Admission Portal of the TET&SD Department, which handles admission to both polytechnics and ITIs. The same portal is used for registration, fee payment, merit list, choice filling and seat allotment.
Apply Online for JEXPO 2027
Applications for JEXPO 2027 are expected in April 2027.
- Open the Common Admission Portal (admission-tetsd.wb.gov.in) once 2027-28 registration starts.
- Register with your name, mobile number and email ID, and choose admission to the 1st year of polytechnic.
- Fill in your personal details and your Class 10 marks, including Mathematics and Physical Science.
- Pay the application fee online by net banking, debit card, credit card or UPI.
- Submit the form and download a copy of the filled-in application for your records.

These are the 2026-27 fees. The council’s brochure says no change is allowed after you submit the form, and wrong details can cancel your admission at any stage, so check your marks, name and date of birth before you pay.
Who can apply for JEXPO 2027?
You can apply if you have passed, or are appearing in, Madhyamik or an equivalent Class 10 board exam with Science or Physical Science and Mathematics, from any recognised board. This is the rule in the 2026-27 notification.
- Citizenship: you must be an Indian citizen.
- Age: there is no upper age limit, but for 2026-27 your date of birth had to be on or before 1 July 2011. The 2027-28 notice will give the new date.
- Domicile: a West Bengal domicile certificate in the prescribed form (Proforma A, B or C) is checked at admission.
- Medical fitness: no colour blindness, and physically and mentally fit to pursue a technical course.
No minimum percentage is stated in the 2025-26 brochure or the 2026-27 notification. Your Class 10 marks only decide your rank.
How is the JEXPO 2027 merit list prepared?
Your rank comes only from your Class 10 marks. The 2026-27 rules give equal weight to your overall marks and your Mathematics and Physical Science marks.

For example, 70% overall and 80% in Mathematics and Physical Science gives an estimate of 75. This is only a guide; your actual rank appears in the official merit list.
How to Check the JEXPO 2027 Merit List and Seat Allotment
- Open the Common Admission Portal after the merit list date is announced.
- Log in with the details you used to register.
- Open the merit list or rank section to see your rank for 1st-year polytechnic admission.
- Fill your choices of polytechnic and discipline in the choice filling window.
- Check the allotment result, download your allotment letter and take admission by the date printed on it.
A rank and an allotment do not guarantee admission. Your eligibility is checked again at the polytechnic, and if you miss the admission date the seat goes to another candidate. In 2026 the 1st-year merit list came out on 25 July 2026, as reported in the news, and a spot round allotment followed on 30 September 2026.
How are JEXPO 2027 seats reserved?
Seats in government and government-sponsored polytechnics are reserved by category, and district and female quotas apply across categories.

Unfilled district quota seats become general seats after the second counselling, and unfilled EWS seats after the third. Self-financed polytechnics also have 25% management quota seats, and the Women’s Polytechnics in Kolkata and Chandannagar admit only female candidates.
Which diploma courses can you join through JEXPO?
You join the 1st year of a 3-year Diploma in Engineering & Technology. The 2025-26 brochure lists 42 disciplines, including Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Computer Science & Technology, Electronics & Telecommunication, Architecture, 3D Animation & Graphics and Medical Laboratory Technology.

What documents do you need for JEXPO 2027 admission?
- Seat allotment letter and a copy of your submitted application form
- Class 10 (Madhyamik or equivalent) marksheet and pass certificate
- West Bengal domicile certificate in the prescribed form (Proforma A, B or C), in original
- Caste, EWS, disability or land loser certificate in original from a West Bengal authority, if you claim a reserved seat
- Income certificate, if you apply for a Tuition Fee Waiver seat
- Medical fitness certificate signed by a registered medical practitioner with seal and registration number
- Kanyashree ID card in original, if you claim the fee concession
After admission you must also register with the council by the notified date, or your admission is cancelled.
