How is the Tamil Nadu ITI merit list prepared?
DET prepares the merit list online from your qualifying marks. There are separate merit lists for Class 8 and Class 10 qualified candidates, so you compete only with candidates of the same qualification.
- Merit is based on your Class 8 or Class 10 marks as entered in your application and checked against your mark sheet.
- Seats are allotted by rank, following the communal reservation (OC 31%, BC 26.5%, BCM 3.5%, MBC/DNT 20%, SC 15.12%, SCA 2.88%, ST 1%).
- Priority quotas for women, differently abled candidates, ex-servicemen, orphans and sports winners apply within each community quota.
- The order of your ITI and trade choices decides which seat you are allotted.
What should you do after a TN ITI seat is allotted?
Report to the allotted ITI in person with your provisional allotment order and original certificates, and pay the admission fee within the time given. If you do not report, your seat is released to other candidates.
- Provisional allotment order and application fee receipt
- Class 8 or Class 10 mark sheet
- Transfer certificate
- Community certificate, if you claimed reservation
- Priority reservation certificate (ex-servicemen, differently abled, state-level sports or orphan), if claimed

How are vacant TN ITI seats filled?
Government-quota seats left after online counselling are filled by direct admission at district level. District administrations announce the window; in 2026 direct admission ran until 30 June 2026.
DET does not publish trade-wise cut-off marks. The admission status data on its website shows how many seats each Government ITI filled in past years, which tells you which ITIs fill up fully.
