The BITS HD 2027 syllabus has two parts: Test I, common to everyone, covers Core Mathematics, English and Logical Reasoning, and Test II covers your own discipline. BITS Pilani publishes the syllabus in its Higher Degree admissions brochure. Until the 2027-28 brochure is out, the 2026-27 brochure is the latest official version.
Latest (19 August 2026): BITS Pilani closed Higher Degree admissions for 2026-27 with no further iterations. BITS HD 2027 has not been announced yet.

How is the BITS HD syllabus divided?
The syllabus follows the tests: everyone takes Test I, and then either Test II in a discipline or one of two special tests.

What is in BITS HD Test I Core Mathematics?
- Calculus: limits, continuity, derivatives and definite integrals, series, Maclaurin and Taylor series, functions of several variables, multiple, line and surface integrals, theorems of Green, Gauss and Stokes.
- Linear Algebra: matrices, rank and inverse, systems of linear equations, vector spaces, linear transformations, eigenvalues and eigenvectors.
- Complex Variables: analytic functions, Cauchy’s theorems and integral formula, Taylor and Laurent series, residues.
- Probability and Statistics: conditional probability, random variables and standard distributions, expectation, central limit theorem, sampling, estimation, hypothesis tests, correlation and regression.
- Differential Equations: first and higher order ODEs, variation of parameters, Cauchy-Euler equation, Fourier series, Laplace transform, separation of variables for PDEs.
- Numerical Methods: Newton, secant, fixed point and false position methods, direct and iterative methods for linear systems, LU decomposition, trapezoidal and Simpson’s rules.

Applicants to these two M.E. programmes take a 50-question special test instead of Test II.

What is the BITS HD 2027 marking scheme?
All questions are multiple choice with four options and one correct answer. You get 3 marks for a correct answer, lose 1 mark for a wrong one and get nothing for a skipped question, so Test I is out of 90 and Test II out of 210. Dates and the full pattern are on the BITS HD 2027 page.
Where can I download the BITS HD syllabus PDF?
The syllabus is part of the BITS HD admissions brochure, with Test I from page 16 and Test II from page 19 in the 2026-27 edition. The 2027-28 brochure is expected when applications open, around February 2027.

Which books should I use for BITS HD 2027?
Start with the reference books the brochure lists under each Test II topic, since the questions are built from BITS course content.
- Core Mathematics: a standard engineering mathematics text, such as B.S. Grewal’s Higher Engineering Mathematics or Kreyszig’s Advanced Engineering Mathematics, and a practice book such as Arihant GATE Engineering Mathematics (chapter-wise PYQs).
- Software Systems: Kernighan and Ritchie’s The C Programming Language, named in the brochure for both C units.
- Pharmacy: the brochure names Trease and Evans’ Pharmacognosy; GPAT guides such as Pearson Complete Companion for GPAT cover the same B.Pharm. subjects.
- English and Logical Reasoning: a standard grammar book and a verbal and non-verbal reasoning practice book.
BITS HD Syllabus 2027 FAQs
Is Test I the same for every BITS HD candidate?
Yes. Test I is compulsory for all Higher Degree applicants, whatever the programme, and has 15 Core Mathematics and 15 English and Logical Reasoning questions.
Do M.E. Software Systems applicants take Test II?
No. They take Test I and then a 60-minute, 50-question special test in Software Systems. M.E. Environmental Engineering applicants likewise take their own special test.
Is there a separate BITS HD syllabus for M.Pharm.?
Yes. M.Pharm. applicants take the Pharmacy paper in Test II, which covers B.Pharm. subjects such as pharmacognosy, pharmaceutical chemistry, pharmacology and formulations.
Will the BITS HD syllabus change for 2027?
BITS Pilani has not released the 2027-28 brochure yet. Use the 2026-27 syllabus to prepare and check the new brochure when it is published for any change.
