Factors Affecting GATE 2019 Cut Off

The candidates generally ask this question that on what basis is the cut off for GATE exam decided? No only candidate’s performance is taken into consideration for deciding the cut-off but there are other factors as well:

  1. Number of candidates who appeared for the exam
  2. The difficulty level of the exam
  3. Total applications received for the programme to which candidate has sought admission
  4. Total number of available seats
  5. The category under which a candidate wishes to sough admission for

How GATE Scores are Calculated?

Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE-2019) has been concluded. The exam for some papers has been conducted in a single whereas, for others, it has been held in multiple session. For the papers which is being held in a single session only, their actual marks is released. However, for papers in multi-sessions, normalized marks will be calculated corresponding to the raw marks obtained by a candidate.

Calculation of GATE 2019 Score for All Papers

The score for GATE 2019 is calculated using the formula as given below:

As per the information brochure, the qualifying marks for the General category candidates is 25 marks (out of 100) in each subject or, µ+σ whichever is larger, where µ is the mean and σ is the standard deviation of marks of all the candidates who appeared in the paper.

Calculation of GATE 2019 Score for Multi-Session Papers

The calculation of the score for the multi-session papers is done on the basis of Normalization. Check the formula for Normalization in the image below.

The normalization is done on the basis of the fundamental assumption that “in all multi-session GATE papers, the distribution of abilities of candidates is the same across all the sessions”

Apart from qualifying marks, you may also want to know cut off in terms of opening and closing score to get admission.
