The IGNOU OPENNET 2027 syllabus is the GNM diploma course of the Indian Nursing Council. IGNOU does not publish a separate topic list: its prospectus says the 120 one-mark questions, set in sections A to H, come from subjects taught in GNM. What does the IGNOU OPENNET 2027 syllabus cover?
It covers the subjects of the 3-year GNM course, since every question paper says the questions are based on the GNM syllabus prescribed by the INC.

What is the IGNOU OPENNET 2027 exam pattern and marking?
The test has 120 multiple-choice questions with four options each, answered on an OMR sheet in 2 hours 30 minutes.
- Each correct answer gets 1 mark, so the maximum is 120.
- There is no negative marking for a wrong answer (2025 paper instructions).
- Marking more than one option for a question gets no credit.
- Use a blue or black ball point pen to darken the circles.
Which topics have past OPENNET papers asked about?
Past papers mix basic science with nursing practice and management. Questions seen in the 2019 to 2025 papers include:
- Body systems and organs, such as the digestive and nervous systems.
- Microbes, spore-forming bacteria and infection control.
- Psychology and sociology, such as theories of development and family types.
- Community health, such as epidemiology, epidemics and national programmes like DOTS.
- Nursing management, such as staffing, staff development and organising.

How should you prepare for IGNOU OPENNET 2027?
- Revise your GNM textbooks for all three years, not only clinical subjects.
- Solve at least three past papers in 2 hours 30 minutes each.
- Attempt every question, since there is no negative marking.
- Read up on national health programmes and basic nursing administration.
- Check the model question paper in the IGNOU prospectus (Appendix XIIa).
