IMU CET DNS Eligibility 2018

Eligibility Criteria for admissions to various UG & PG Programmes of IMU is given below.

Postgraduate Programmes

Eligibility Criteria

2-Year M.Tech (Marine Technology and Management)

  • BE/B.Tech in Marine Engineering/ Mechanical Engineering/ Naval Architecture with at least 60% marks from a recognized University. OR
  • Associate Member of Institution of Engineers Part A and B in Mechanical Engineering with at least 60% marks (by examination).
  • MEO Class I Certificate of Competency.

Note: Candidates with prescribed GATE/GRE Scores are exempted from IMU’s CET.

Relaxation for SC/ST candidates – There will be a 5% relaxation in eligibility marks.

2-Year M.Sc (Commercial Shipping and Logistics)

  • Category-I:
    • A Bachelor’s Degree in any discipline with minimum of 50% marks from recognized universities and minimum of 50% marks in English subject in 10th / 12th / UG Degree.
    • Candidates under this category must appear for the IMU’s Common Entrance Test (CET) and qualify in order to be eligible for admission to this Programme.
  • Category-II:
    • 50% of seats in each IMU Campus where M.Sc (Commercial Shipping & Logistics) is being offered shall be reserved for Seafarers with Master (FG) Certificate of Competency or MEO Class I Certificate of Competency
    • There will be no CET for Category-II candidates
    • If the number of applications from qualified Seafarers is less than the number of reserved seats, the vacant seats will be allotted to the candidates from Category-I
    • If the number of applications from qualified seafarers is greater than the number of reserved seats, then IMU will conduct a separate Offline Entrance Test for selecting Category-II candidates for the Programme.
  • Relaxation for SC/ST candidates – There will be a 5% relaxation in eligibility marks; however, it will not apply to English Marks.

2-Year MBA (International Transportation and Logistics Management) & 2-Year MBA (Port & Shipping Management)

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in any discipline with 50% marks from a recognized universities. A minimum of 50% marks in English subject in 10th/ 12th/ UG Degree.
  • Relaxation for SC/ST candidates – There will be a 5% relaxation in eligibility marks; however, it will not apply to English Marks.

2-Year M.Tech (Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering) & 2-Year M.Tech (Dredging and Harbour Engineering)

  • Engineering Graduate in Mechanical/ Civil/ Marine/ Naval Architecture or equivalent with 60% aggregate marks.
  • Relaxation for SC/ST candidates – There will be a 5% relaxation in eligibility marks.

Age Criteria

  • There is no age restriction.

Eligibility – Medical

  • All Candidates who qualify for this courses will have to submit a Physical Fitness Certificate from Registered Medical Practitioner

Undergraduate Programmes

Eligibility Criteria for 3-Year BBA (Logistics, Retailing and ECommerce), 4-Year B.Tech (Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering) and 3-Year B.Sc (Ship Building and Repair)

  • Educational Qualification
    • 3-Year BBA (Logistics, Retailing and ECommerce) – 10+2/equivalent (Minimum 60% of Aggregate marks in any stream and minimum of 50% marks in English subject in 10th / 12th Examination.)
    • 4-Year B.Tech (Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering) – 10+2/equivalent (PCM-60% and minimum of 50% marks in English subject in 10th / 12th Examination.)
    • 3-Year B.Sc (Ship Building and Repair) – 10+2/equivalent (PCM- 50% and minimum of 50% marks in English subject in 10th / 12th Examination.)
  • Age Criteria
    • Minimum age 17 years
    • Maximum age 25 Years
  • Relaxation for SC/ST candidates – There will be a 5% relaxation in eligibility marks; however, it will not apply to English Marks. Maximum age relaxation is for five (5) years
  • Eligibility – Medical – All Candidates who qualify will have to submit a Physical Fitness Certificate from Registered Medical Practitioner at the time of Certificate Verification.

Eligibility Criteria for 4-Year B.Tech (Marine Engineering), 3-Year B.Sc (Maritime Science), 3-Year B.Sc (Nautical Science) and 1-Year DNS course leading to B.Sc (Applied Nautical Science) and Lateral Entry to 2nd Year of B.Sc (Nautical Science)

Educational Qualification

  • 4-Year B.Tech (Marine Engineering), 3-Year B.Sc (Maritime Science), 3-Year B.Sc (Nautical Science) – 10+2/equivalent (PCM-60% and minimum of 50% marks in English subject in 10th / 12th Examination.)
  • 1-Year DNS course leading to B.Sc (Applied Nautical Science)
    • 10+2/equivalent (PCM-60%)
    • B.Sc (PCM)/ B.Sc (Electronics with Physics as individual subject in one of the years); Marks not less than 60%
    • B.E./B.Tech from IIT or college recognised by AICTE; Marks not less than 50%
  • Lateral Entry to 2nd Year of B.Sc (Nautical Science)
    • The candidate should have passed the 1-year Diploma in Nautical Science (DNS) programme.
    • From the academic year 2018-19 onwards, Lateral Entry will be restricted only to candidates who had passed DNS within five years from the year in which lateral entry into 2nd year B.Sc (Nautical Science) is sought.
    • Illustration: Only DNS passed candidates admitted in August 2012 batch or later will be eligible to appear for the Online CET for Lateral Entry into 2nd year B.Sc (Nautical Science) in August 2018.

Age Criteria

  • Minimum age 17 years
  • Maximum age 25 Years
  • For Lateral Entry to 2nd Year of B.Sc (Nautical Science):
    • Minimum age 18 years
    • Maximum age 26 Years

Eligibility – Medical

  • Physical Fitness 1. Candidates seeking admission to the following 4 Marine Programmes: (i) DNS leading to B.Sc (Applied Nautical Science), (ii) B.Sc (Nautical Science), (iii) B.Sc (Maritime Science) and (iv) B.Tech (Marine Engineering), must be physically fit and should meet the medical requirements as specified by Director General of Shipping, Mumbai.
  • At the time of admission, candidates will be required to produce certificate of medical fitness issued by doctors approved by the Directorate General of Shipping, Mumbai. The list of approved doctors will be available here.
  • Eye sight – For the above 4 Marine Programmes, there shall be no evidence of any morbid condition of either eye or of the lids of either eye which may be liable to risk of aggravation or recurrence. Candidates must possess good binocular vision (Fusion faculty and full field of vision in both eyes).
  • Movement of the eyeballs must be full in all directions and the pupils should react normally to light and accommodation.
  • Normal colour vision shall be tested by Ishihara test chart.
  • a) For DNS leading to B.Sc (Applied Nautical Science), B.Sc(Nautical Science) and B.Sc(Maritime Science) Programmes: Distance Vision unaided 1.0*(6/6)in better eye and 0.67*(6/9) in other eye.
  • b) For B.Tech( Marine Engineering) Programme: Distance Vision unaided 0.5*(6/12) in each eye or 0.67*(6/9) in better eye and 0.33*(6/18) in other eye.
