Candidates can check below the eligibility criteria for UG and PG programmes offered at the University.
Age Criteria for UG programmes
- A student must be 17 years as on 05 Oct 2020 and the maximum age limit is 25 year.
- There is a relaxation of 5 years for the candidates belonging to SC / ST categories.
- For OBC, the maximum age shall be relaxed for 3 years only.
- The maximum age limit of female candidates of each category shall be relaxed by additional 2 years.

IMU CET 2020 Course-wise Eligibility
Candidates can check below the UG and PG course-wise educational qualification.
For 4-Year B.Tech (Marine Engineering) and 3-Year B.Sc (Nautical Science)
- The candidates should have passed 10+2 (PCM) with minimum 60% marks and 50% in English subject 10th or 12th examination.
- The candidates belonging to SC / ST category shall get a minimum 5% relaxation.
Note: It must be noted that the relaxation of 5% in English marks is applicable to the candidates who native of Lakshadweep and Andaman & Nicobar islands and belongs to their STs, and whose both parents were born in those Islands and belong to the STs of those islands.
For 3-Year BBA (Logistics, Retailing and E-Commerce)
- The candidates must have cleared class 12th in any stream with minimum 60% marks.
- Also, the candidates must have obtained minimum 50% marks in English subject in 10th or 12th examination.
- There is a relaxation of 5% in the eligibility marks, however, it is not applicable to the English marks.
For 1-Year Diploma in Nautical Science
- To pursue this course, the candidates must have passed 10+2 or equivalent with PCM and have secured minimum 60% marks.
- Also, the candidates must have obtained minimum 50% marks in English subject in 10th / 12th or degree examination.
OR
- The candidates must have a B.Sc in Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry or B.Sc Electronics with Physics as individual subject in one of the years with an average of minimum 55% marks.
OR
- The candidates must have a B.E. / B.Tech from IIT or college recognized by AICTE with an average of minimum 50% marks.
For 4-Year B.Tech (Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering)
- The candidates must have cleared 10+2 with PCM with minimum 60% average marks and 50% marks in English in 10 or 12th class exam.
- Also, 5% relaxation shall be given to the candidates belonging to SC / ST category. However, th relaxation shall not apply to English subject.
For 3-Year B.Sc (Ship Building and Repair)
- The candidates must have cleared 10+2 with PCM with minimum 60% average marks and 50% marks in English in 10 or 12th class exam.
- SC / ST candidates shall get 5% relaxation. However, there will be no relaxation for English subject.
For MBA (For Port & Shipping Management and International Transportation & Logistics Management)
- To apply for MBA, the candidates must have a bachelor’s degree from a recognized university with minimum 50% marks.
- Furthermore, candidates must have obtained a minimum of 50% marks in the English subject in 10th or 12th or UG Degree
For 2-Year M.Tech (Marine Engineering and Management)
- The candidates must have a B.E. / B.Tech in Marine Engineering / Mechanical Engineering / Naval Architecture from a recognized university with minimum 60% marks.
OR
- The candidates must be an associate member of institution of Engineers Part A and B in Mechanical Engineering with at least 60% marks (by examination)
OR
- The candidates must have a MEO Class I certificate of Competency issued by Govt. of India.
Note: For admission in 2-Year M.Tech (Marine Engineering and Management), candidates with a valid GATE Score in Marine Engineering/ Mechanical Engineering/ Naval Architecture are exempted from IMU’s CET. However, they are considered for admission for residuary seats only.
For 2-Year M.Tech (Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering) / 2-Year M.Tech (Dredging and Harbour Engineering)
- The candidates applying for this course must be an Engineering Graduate in Mechanical / Civil / Marine / Naval Architecture with minimum 60% marks.
- There is no maximum age limit.
- 5% relaxation shall be given to SC / ST candidates.
For PGDME

For M.Sc (Commercial Shipping & Logistics)

For Ph.D Courses
- The aspirants must have cleared SSLC (10th / 11th or 12th) before joining UG degree. Furthermore, before joing PG course, the candidates must have cleared UG degree. And
- Also, the candidates must have passed PG degree with minimum 55% marks (50% for SC / ST).
OR
- The aspirants must have cleared MS (By Research) or M.Phil in Marine Engg / Nautical Studies / Maritime Management / Naval Architecture & Ocean Management
OR
- The candidates who are Mariners or MEO Class I Certificate of Competency or PGDMOM qualification with 2 years continuous teaching experience at IMU campus / IMU Affiliated instututes / DGS approved institutes.
MS (By Research)
The aspirants must have completed their Graduation in the relevant discipline with minimum 55% marks (50% marks for SC / ST) except in case of Mariners with Master or MEO Class I Certificate of Comptency.
IMU CET 2020 Eligibility – Medical
Apart from the educational qualifications, the candidates must have fulfilled the other eligibility conditions as well. Check the information given below for the same:
Medical Eligibility for 4-Year B.Tech (Marine Engineering)/ 3-Year B.Sc (Nautical Science)/ 1-Year Diploma in Nautical Science / PGDME
Candidates seeking admission to the following 4 Marine Programmes must be physically fit and should meet the eligibility requirements specified by Director General of Shipping, Mumbai.
Eye-Sight – For these 4 Marine Programmes, candidates need to ensure that they fulfil the following conditions:
- There shall be no evidence of any morbid condition of either eye or of the lids of either eye which may be liable to risk of aggravation or recurrence.
- Must possess good binocular vision
- Movement of the eyeballs must be full in all directions and the pupils should react normally to light and dark accommodation
- Normal colour vision is tested by Ishihara test char
For Diploma in Nautical Science, and B Sc (Nautical Science) Programmes: Distance Vision unaided 1.0 (6/6) in better eye and 0.67(6/9) in another eye
For B.Tech (Marine Engineering) Programme: Distance Vision unaided 0.5(6/12) in each eye or 0.67(6/9) in better eye and 0.33*(6/18) in the other eye.
Medical Eligibility for other UG and PG courses
All these candidates who qualify the entrance exam need to submit a Physical Fitness Certificate from a Registered Medical Practitioner at the time of Certificate Verification.
About IMU CET 2020
IMU CET is a computer-based test conducted by Indian Maritime University for admission in many UG, PG and Ph.D programs. The test consists of multiple-choice questions. For UG programs, there are 200 questions. For MBA and M.Tech, there are 120 questions respectively. There is no negative marking in IMU CET 2020. IMU CET is a compulsory requirement by IMU and affiliated institutes (except for BBA and PGDME). There is no CET for BBA.

Ans : Candidate for admission to marine courses (DG Shipping-approved courses) must be physically fit and should meet the medical requirements as specified by the Director-General of Shipping, Mumbai and are required to produce a certificate of medical fitness from a Doctor approved by the Director-General of Shipping. Those candidates who have any kind of disability will not be able to sit for the Test.
Ans : If any candidate is found not eligible for the IMU CET examination then the candidature of that candidate will be canceled and the application fee will not be refunded to him/her.
