Tamil Nadu NEET Counselling 2026 Important Dates
Rounds 1, 2 and 3 of the 2026 counselling are done, and Round 3 reporting closes at 5 PM on 15 October 2026. The prospectus provides a stray vacancy round after Round 3; its dates are not out yet. The 2027 counselling is expected from June to August 2027, after the NEET UG 2027 result.

Which seats are filled through Tamil Nadu NEET counselling?
The Selection Committee fills 85% of seats in government medical and dental colleges and all seats in private colleges other than deemed universities. These are the seat types in the 2026-27 prospectus.

DT Next reported that 72,627 candidates applied for 16,199 MBBS and BDS seats in 2026. For All India Quota and deemed university seats, register separately in MCC NEET counselling.
How to apply for Tamil Nadu NEET Counselling 2026?
You apply once online for the Government Quota and, if you want those seats, separately for the Management Quota. The 2026 application window opened on 29 June and closed in July 2026; only candidates on the rank list can register for counselling rounds.
Apply Online for Tamil Nadu NEET Counselling 2026
The Tamil Nadu NEET Counselling 2026 application window (29 June to 23 July 2026) has closed.
- Read the 2026-27 prospectus and open the MBBS/BDS online application portal.
- Register with your mobile number and email ID, and verify the OTP. Use the same mobile number for every later step.
- Log in and fill your details: NEET UG 2026 roll number and score, Class 6 to 12 schooling, community, nativity and any special category.
- Upload the documents in PDF, your NEET photo, signature and left thumb impression, then pay the fee online.
- After the rank list, register for each counselling round, pay the registration fee and security deposit, and fill and lock your choices on the counselling portal.
- If you are allotted a seat, pay the tuition fee, download the allotment order and report to the college with original certificates.

SC, SCA, ST and SC converts to Christianity are exempt from the security deposit if the parents’ annual income is below Rs 2.5 lakh. The deposit is refunded after joining or if you get no seat, but it is forfeited if you do not join a seat allotted in Round 3 or later.
How to log in to the Tamil Nadu MBBS/BDS counselling portal?
You log in to the counselling portal to register for a round, pay fees, fill and lock choices and download your allotment order.
- Open the official login page for Government and Management Quota counselling. 7.5% Government School quota candidates use the 7.5% quota login page.
- Enter your login ID and password.
- Enter the OTP sent to your registered mobile number.
- Register for the round, fill and lock your choices, or download the allotment order after paying the tuition fee.
- Log out, and do not share your login ID, password or OTP with anyone.
If you cannot log in, call the Selection Committee helpline on 044-28361674 or 044-28363822. The portal links change each year, so use the links on tnmedicalselection.net for the 2027 counselling.
Who can apply for Tamil Nadu NEET Counselling 2026?
You must have qualified NEET UG 2026 and be a native of Tamil Nadu with a nativity certificate for Government Quota seats.
- Indian citizen. OCI and PIO candidates can apply but only in the open category, with no reservation.
- At least 17 years old at admission or on or before 31 December 2026.
- Qualified NEET UG 2026: 50th percentile for General, 40th for SC, ST and OBC, and 45th for General PwBD.
- Passed Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English in Class 12, with 50% in PCB together (40% for SC, ST and OBC; 45% for General PwBD).
- Native of Tamil Nadu with a nativity certificate from the Government of Tamil Nadu. A permanent residence certificate is not accepted.
- Natives who studied Class 6 to 12 outside Tamil Nadu can apply with nativity and community certificates.
- Natives of other states who studied Class 6 to 12 continuously in Tamil Nadu are considered in the open category, with a school bonafide certificate.
- Students of boards other than the State Board, CBSE and ICSE need an eligibility certificate from the Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University.
- Candidates already studying MBBS or BDS cannot apply for the same course again.
How are Tamil Nadu state quota seats reserved?
Seats are filled on NEET UG 2026 rank through single window counselling with this communal reservation, as set in the prospectus.

BC, BCM, MBC, SC, SCA and ST candidates can also win Open Competition seats on rank. On top of this, 7.5% of Government Quota seats go first to students who studied Class 6 to 12 in Tamil Nadu government schools, and 5% of seats are for persons with benchmark disabilities. Sports persons get 13 MBBS and 2 BDS seats, and children of ex-servicemen 10 MBBS and 1 BDS seat, in government colleges.
What is the MBBS fee in Tamil Nadu colleges?
Government college fees are fixed by the state, and self-financing college fees by the Fee Fixation Committee. These are yearly fees for Government Quota seats in the 2026-27 prospectus.

Management and NRI Quota seats have higher fees, listed in the separate Management Quota prospectus. Hostel, mess and other charges are extra and are paid to the college.
How do the counselling rounds and upgrades work?
There are four rounds: Round 1, Round 2, Round 3 and a stray round, each with its own rules.
- Candidates who joined a seat in Round 1 or 2 can ask for an upgrade in the next round. Their current seat is shown to others as a virtual vacancy.
- If you are upgraded, you lose the earlier seat and must join the new one.
- Candidates who join an All India Quota or state seat up to Round 3 are removed from later rounds, as per the DGHS bulletin.
- In Round 3 and the stray round, paying the fee and downloading the allotment order counts as joining. Not joining means losing the deposit and the tuition fee.
- A Round 3 seat cannot be upgraded or resigned, and Round 3 allottees cannot sit the stray round.
- The stray round is open only to candidates holding no MBBS or BDS seat, with an extra deposit of Rs 5 lakh (MBBS) or Rs 2 lakh (BDS).

What documents do you need for Tamil Nadu NEET counselling?
You upload these with the application and show the originals when you report to the allotted college.
- NEET UG 2026 admit card
- Class 10, Class 11 and Class 12 mark sheets (both sides)
- Transfer certificate issued after Class 12
- Proof of study from Class 6 to 12, if you studied fully in Tamil Nadu
- Nativity certificate, and community certificate of the candidate or a parent from Tamil Nadu revenue authorities
- Bonafide certificate signed by the Chief Educational Officer, for the 7.5% Government School quota
- Special category form and certificates for PwBD, sports or ex-servicemen quota
- Parent’s income certificate, if you claim a fee or deposit exemption
- Eligibility certificate from the Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University, for other boards
- Allotment order and self-declaration form at the time of joining
