How to Apply for the CMI Entrance Exam 2027
You apply online through the CMI admissions website. CMI says applications for 2027-28 will open around 1 March 2027 and that further details will be announced by February 2027.

Applications for CMI Entrance Exam 2027 are expected in March 2027.
- Open the CMI admissions page when the 2027 application link goes live (around 1 March 2027).
- Register and fill in the form for the programme you want: B.S. (Hons), M.Sc. or Ph.D.
- Choose your exam centre city. In 2026 the exam was held in 37 cities across India.
- Upload the documents and pay the application fee as the form asks.
- Download your admit card before the exam on 15 May 2027.
CMI has not published the 2027 application fee yet; it will be shown in the application form. There is one common entrance exam for all three B.S. (Hons) programmes, and you choose your B.S. subject after admission.

Students who did exceptionally well in the National Science Olympiads may get B.S. admission without writing the exam, at the Admissions Committee’s discretion. CMI lists the Mathematics IMOTC and EGMOTC camps, the Physics OCSC camp, the IOITC and EGOI shortlists, and INOI gold or silver in Class 11 or 12.
What is the CMI Entrance Exam 2027 exam pattern?
Each programme has its own paper, and every paper is a test of aptitude, not of memory. The format below is from the official syllabus page and the most recent papers; CMI does not publish a fixed duration or mark scheme in advance.

In most papers Part A is used for screening: Part B is marked only if your Part A score crosses a minimum. Old papers with CMI’s own solutions are the best practice; see the CMI previous year question papers and the CMI 2027 syllabus.
Which programmes can you join through CMI 2027, and what are the fees?
From 2026 the undergraduate degree is a 4-year B.S. (Hons) with a 3-year B.Sc. exit option. Fees below are from the 2026-27 brochure; the 2027-28 figures are not out yet.

Hostel and mess charges were Rs 31,310 per semester in 2026-27.
How does selection work after the CMI Entrance Exam 2027?
Selection starts with the written exam. All Ph.D. candidates who clear it are called for an interview in Chennai, and the M.Sc. Mathematics brochure also mentions an interview; other programmes may have one at the Admissions Committee’s discretion.

- Ph.D. Computer Science: GATE or JEST can also lead to an interview.
- Ph.D. Physics: GATE, JEST or UGC-CSIR NET can also lead to an interview.
