GAT-B / BET 2027 are the two national biotechnology tests that NTA conducts for the Department of Biotechnology (DBT). GAT-B fills DBT-supported M.Sc., M.Tech. and M.V.Sc. seats, and BET selects DBT-JRF fellows for a Ph.D. The 2027 dates are not out yet; the exam is expected in May 2027.

GAT-B / BET 2027 Important Dates
NTA has not announced GAT-B / BET 2027 yet, so the dates below are expected months. In 2026 registration ran from 19 March to 9 April and both exams were held on 17 May, so the 2027 exam is expected in May 2027.

How to Apply for GAT-B / BET 2027
You apply online only, on the NTA GAT-B / BET website, and one form lets you choose GAT-B, BET or both. The 2027 form is expected to open in March 2027 with the new information bulletin.

Applications for GAT-B / BET 2027 are expected in March 2027.
- Read the information bulletin and check the eligibility of the exam (and, for GAT-B, the institutes) you want.
- Register on exams.nta.nic.in/gat-bet with your own email ID and mobile number, and note your application number.
- Fill in your personal and academic details, choose GAT-B, BET or both, and pick four exam cities.
- Upload your photograph, signature, identity proof and, if needed, your PwD certificate and result-awaited attestation form.
- Pay the fee online and download the confirmation page.

These are the 2026 fees; bank charges and GST are extra. In 2026 a correction window ran from 11 to 13 April. Final-year students can apply under the result-awaited category with an attestation form signed by the head of their institute.
Who can apply for GAT-B / BET 2027?
Indian nationals can apply; GAT-B follows each participating institute’s own eligibility, while BET has fixed marks and an age limit. These rules are from the 2026 bulletin.
- GAT-B: you must meet the minimum eligibility of the participating institute and programme you want. Appendix II of the bulletin lists each institute’s criteria; there is no fixed percentage for the test itself.
- BET, 4-year (8-semester) UG degree with research in Biotechnology, Life Sciences or allied areas: at least 75% (5% relaxation as per UGC).
- BET, B.Tech or B.E.: at least 60% (55% for SC, ST and differently abled).
- BET, Master’s degree (M.Sc., M.Tech., M.V.Sc., M.Pharm., integrated M.Sc./M.Tech. or MBBS) in allied areas: at least 60% (55% for SC, ST and differently abled).
- BET age limit: 28 years for General and EWS on the last date of application; 31 for OBC-NCL; 33 for SC, ST, differently abled and women.
What is the GAT-B / BET 2027 exam pattern?
Both tests are 3-hour computer-based papers in English with two sections each and negative marking. GAT-B is held in the morning shift and BET in the afternoon shift of the same day.

What do GAT-B and BET lead to?
GAT-B leads to a DBT-supported PG seat with a monthly stipend, and BET leads to a DBT-JRF fellowship for a Ph.D. In 2026 there were 1,316 DBT-sanctioned seats in 79 PG programmes through GAT-B.
- GAT-B stipend (2026 bulletin): Rs 5,000 a month for M.Sc. Biotechnology and allied areas, Rs 7,500 for M.Sc. Agricultural Biotechnology and Rs 12,000 for M.Tech. or M.V.Sc.
- GAT-B admission: you apply to each participating institute, which runs its own admission. The GAT-B score is valid only for that academic year.
- BET Category-I: DBT-JRF fellowship of Rs 37,000 a month for 2 years once you join a Ph.D., then Rs 42,000 a month as SRF for 3 more years after an assessment.
- BET Category-II: eligible for DBT project positions with a fellowship equal to NET/GATE, but no DBT-JRF fellowship.
