IIT JAM 2027 (Joint Admission Test for Masters) is the national test for M.Sc. and other postgraduate science programmes at 23 IITs, organised this year by IIT Kharagpur. Applications are open on JOAPS until 19 October 2026, and the computer-based exam is on 14 February 2027.

IIT JAM 2027 Important Dates
IIT Kharagpur has announced the main JAM 2027 dates: registration from 11 September to 19 October 2026, admit cards from 5 January 2027, the exam on 14 February 2027 and the result on 18 March 2027. Answer key dates will be notified later.

How to Apply for IIT JAM 2027
You apply for JAM 2027 online on the JAM Online Application Processing System (JOAPS) until 19 October 2026. There is no offline form, and the fee is paid online only.
Apply Online for IIT JAM 2027
Applications for IIT JAM 2027 are open: 11 September to 19 October 2026.
- Register on JOAPS with your name, a valid email address and an active mobile number, and set a password. Your Enrollment ID and an OTP are sent to your email and mobile.
- Log in with the Enrollment ID and password and fill in your personal, category and qualifying-degree details. You can save a partly filled form and finish it later.
- Choose one or two test papers. Two papers are allowed only if they are in different sessions (one forenoon and one afternoon paper).
- Pick three exam cities in order of preference. Your first city fixes the zone, and the second and third choices must be from the same zone.
- Upload your photograph, signature, Class 10 marksheet with date of birth and, if they apply, your category or PwD certificates.
- Pay the fee online and track your form status (submitted, under scrutiny, accepted or defective) on JOAPS.

The fee is non-refundable. Adding a second paper or changing your paper costs an extra Rs 300 and must be done before 10 November 2026. A wrong category, gender, exam city or date of birth can also be corrected for Rs 300; the JAM office lists a paid data-correction window on JOAPS from 10 November 2026 (tentative).
How to log in to the IIT JAM 2027 application portal?
The JOAPS login is where you fill and submit the JAM 2027 form, pay the fee, add or change a paper, fix defects found in scrutiny and download your admit card; in 2026 the same login was also used to view responses, challenge the answer key and see the result.
- Open the official JOAPS login page for JAM 2027.
- Enter your Enrollment ID or the email address you registered with.
- Enter your JAM application portal password and the captcha shown on screen, then sign in.
- Your dashboard shows your Enrollment ID and application status, with links to complete the form, pay, add or change a paper and, from 5 January 2027, the admit card.
- Log out after use, especially on a shared computer.
Forgot your password? Click “Forgot Credentials?” on the login page, enter your Enrollment ID or email ID and your mobile number, and type the OTP sent to your mobile or email to set a new password. Your Enrollment ID is in the email and SMS you got at registration. For other login problems, write to [email protected].
Who can apply for IIT JAM 2027?
You can take JAM 2027 if you have completed a bachelor’s degree or will appear in its final exam in 2027. There is no age limit and no minimum percentage to sit the exam, and candidates of any nationality can apply.
- Your undergraduate degree must be completed before the date of admission at the institute that admits you.
- To get admission you must qualify in the relevant test paper and meet the programme’s Eligibility Requirements and Minimum Educational Qualifications (MEQs), listed for each IIT programme in the brochure.
- You may appear in JAM any number of times; in 2026 the JAM office also confirmed that candidates with backlogs can apply.
- Foreign nationals must also meet the admission rules of the admitting institute.
What is the IIT JAM 2027 exam pattern?
JAM 2027 is a 3-hour computer-based test with 60 questions for 100 marks in every paper, split into three compulsory sections. Only Section A has negative marking. The seven papers are Biotechnology (BT), Chemistry (CY), Economics (EN), Geology (GG), Mathematics (MA), Mathematical Statistics (MS) and Physics (PH).

Answers are given with the mouse, and NAT answers are typed on a virtual keypad. An on-screen virtual calculator is provided; you cannot bring your own. PwD candidates get one hour of compensatory time per paper. The JAM 2027 syllabus lists the topics for each paper.
How does admission work after IIT JAM 2027?
JAM scores are used without any further test or interview. About 3,000 seats in postgraduate programmes at 23 IITs are filled by All India Rank in each test paper, along with the reservation policy and the seats available.
- Qualified candidates apply online through the JAM 2027 website with one application for all eligible programmes, paying a non-refundable Rs 750 processing fee. The admission brochure is due in the second week of March 2027.
- Up to four rounds of admission lists are run, plus an additional round if seats are left. If you get an offer you can accept it as final, accept it with an option to upgrade, or quit.
- An advance seat booking fee of Rs 15,000 (General, OBC-NCL, EWS) or Rs 7,500 (SC, ST, PwD) is paid on JOAPS and adjusted against the institute’s fees.
- Over 2,000 more seats at IISc, NITs, IISER Pune, IISER Bhopal, IIEST Shibpur, DIAT, SLIET and other result-sharing institutes are filled through CCMN counselling (ccmn.admissions.nic.in).
