The HPCET syllabus 2027 is set course-wise by Himachal Pradesh Technical University in Appendices A to E of its Prospectus Part-I. The B.Tech and B.Pharmacy paper covers Class 11 and 12 Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics or Biology, while MBA, MCA, hotel management and M.Sc. papers have their own sections. The 2027 brochure is expected in March 2027.
Latest (28 August 2026): HPTU-affiliated colleges held institution-level spot rounds for vacant 2026-27 seats on 28 and 29 August 2026. HPCET 2027 dates are not out yet; the exam is expected in May 2027.

What does the HPCET 2027 syllabus cover?
The syllabus depends on the course you apply for, and each paper tests only its own sections. The lists below are from the HPCET 2026 brochure, the latest one published; HPTU usually repeats the syllabus, but check the 2027 brochure when it is out.
The B.Tech and B.Pharmacy syllabus closely follows the Class 11 and 12 science curriculum, with an experimental skills unit in both Physics and Chemistry.

What is the HPCET syllabus for MBA, MBA (T&HM) and MCA?
MBA, MBA (T&HM) and MCA share one 75-question paper with three sections in a fixed order.
- Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension (Q 1 to 25): grammar, parts of speech, tenses, articles, sentence correction and completion, para jumbles, idioms, analogies, antonyms, one-word substitution, reading comprehension.
- Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning (Q 26 to 50): tables, bar, line and pie charts, caselets, data sufficiency, blood relations, coding-decoding, direction sense, series, syllogisms, seating arrangement, puzzles, clocks and calendars, Venn diagrams.
- Quantitative Aptitude (Q 51 to 75): number system, percentages, profit and loss, ratio and proportion, time-speed-distance, work and time, interest, algebra, equations, logarithms, progressions, geometry, mensuration, trigonometry, probability, mean, median and mode.
What is the HPCET syllabus for B.Sc. (HM & CT) and BHMCT?
- General English: comprehension, verbal reasoning, antonyms, fill in the blanks, jumbled paragraphs, sentence correction and completion, idioms, one-word substitution.
- General Knowledge: current national and international affairs, business and companies, awards, science and inventions, history, geography, polity, culture, sports, finance, travel and tourism.
- Reasoning: critical and visual reasoning, assumptions and conclusions, arrangements, puzzles, syllogisms, family tree, coding-decoding, series.
- Data Interpretation and Graphs: column, bar, line and pie charts, area graphs and Venn diagrams.
What is the HPCET syllabus for M.Sc. Physics and M.Sc. Environmental Sciences?
Both M.Sc. papers are set at bachelor’s level.
- M.Sc. Physics: mathematical methods; classical mechanics and properties of matter; optics; electricity and magnetism; modern physics; nuclear and particle physics; atomic and molecular physics; kinetic theory and thermodynamics; solid state physics and electronics.
- M.Sc. Environmental Sciences: Earth Sciences (atmosphere, hydrosphere, lithosphere, climate change, resources); Physical and Chemical Sciences (atmospheric, water and green chemistry, biogeochemical cycles, heavy metal toxicity); Life Sciences (genetics, plant and animal systems, ecology, microbiology and biotechnology, pollution, waste management, instrumentation).
What is the HPCET 2027 exam pattern and marking scheme?
Every HPCET paper is multiple choice with negative marking, as in the 2026 brochure.

If a question is found wrong or dropped after the key review, every candidate who appeared gets full marks for it; if more than one option is correct, marks go to those who chose any correct option.

The full syllabus is printed in the HPCET Prospectus Part-I, Appendices A to F, on the HPTU website. The 2026 brochure below is the latest; replace it with the 2027 brochure when HPTU publishes it.

How should you prepare for HPCET 2027?
- For B.Tech and B.Pharmacy, finish the Class 11 and 12 NCERT books first; the units match them closely.
- Plan Section B well: attempt only the 30 questions you are surest of, because anything after the first 30 is not marked.
- Practise with HPCET previous papers on the HPCET question paper page to get used to the OMR format and timing.
- For MBA and MCA, practise the three sections in the order they appear, with 25 questions each in two hours.
HPCET Syllabus 2027 FAQs
Is the HPCET syllabus the same as JEE Main?
The B.Tech and B.Pharmacy units are very close to the Class 11 and 12 JEE Main syllabus, including the experimental skills units, but HPCET has its own section-wise pattern.
Can a B.Tech candidate attempt Biology instead of Mathematics in HPCET?
No. Mathematics is compulsory for B.Tech. Biology is an option only for B.Pharmacy candidates.
Does the MCA paper have a computer section?
Not in the 2026 pattern. MBA, MBA (T&HM) and MCA share one paper of verbal ability, data interpretation and reasoning, and quantitative aptitude.
When will the HPCET 2027 syllabus be released?
It comes with the Prospectus Part-I, expected in March 2027 when applications open. In 2026 the brochure was dated 18 March.
