HPU MAT Syllabus 2026 is prescribed by Himachal Pradesh University Business School (HPUBS) for the HPU MAT 2026 entrance test conducted for admission to its 2-year MBA programme. The HPU MAT Syllabus 2026 covers four sections of 50 questions each: General Knowledge, English Language Skills, Reasoning & Numerical Skills, and Business Environment Awareness, for a total of 200 multiple-choice questions of one mark each in a duration of 2 hours, with no negative marking. Section 1: General Knowledge (50 Questions / 50 Marks)

This section tests awareness of national and global affairs across history, politics, sports, science, and information technology. The official HPUBS syllabus specifies the following topics.

  • India: Government, Constitution, laws, politics, achievements, famous people, organisations, history, geography, states
  • Sports, cinema, awards & recognitions
  • World: Countries, leaders, organisations, summits
  • Fundamentals of Science & Information Technology

Section 2: English Language Skills (50 Questions / 50 Marks)

This section evaluates command over English grammar, vocabulary, and reading comprehension at graduation level.

  • Grammar: Fill in the blanks, synonyms, antonyms, vocabulary, odd one out, sentence correction, meaning of words, idioms & phrases
  • Reading Comprehension: Read passages and answer MCQs based on them

Section 3: Reasoning & Numerical Skills (50 Questions / 50 Marks)

This section tests verbal / non-verbal reasoning and quantitative aptitude at graduation level.

  • Reasoning: Assertion and reasons, cause and effect, assumption-premise-conclusion, critical / analytical / logical reasoning, coding-decoding, family tree, statements and conclusions, visual reasoning, symbol-based problems
  • Numerical / Quantitative: Algebra, LCM, HCF, mean/mode/median (statistics), number systems, percentages, profit & loss, simple & compound interest, time-distance, time-work, data interpretation, mensuration, direction, calendar, series, graphs, charts, tables

Section 4: Business Environment Awareness (50 Questions / 50 Marks)

This section evaluates awareness of the Indian and global business environment, government policies, and current business affairs.

  • World economy, Indian economy, industry, banking, trade
  • Famous business tycoons & industrialists, corporate associations, BSE & NSE, logos & tag lines of companies
  • Latest government policies affecting industry; business abbreviations; national / international company tie-ups
  • Business and economy current affairs
  • Fundamentals of economics, commerce & trade

Preparation Tips and Books

  • All four sections carry equal weightage (50 marks each); allocate preparation time evenly across all four.
  • Read a national daily and a business newspaper (e.g., Economic Times / Mint) every day for Business Environment Awareness and GK current affairs.
  • For English Language Skills, practise grammar exercises, vocabulary lists, and at least one reading comprehension passage daily.
  • For Reasoning & Numerical Skills, solve timed aptitude and logical reasoning sets to build speed.
  • Practise HPU MAT Previous Year Question Papers in OMR format under timed conditions (2 hours) to simulate exam conditions.
  • Since there is no negative marking, attempt all 200 questions on exam day.
