General Knowledge has 50 questions on India, the world, sports and culture, and basic science.
- India: government, Constitution, laws, politics, achievements, famous people, organisations, history, geography and states.
- Sports, cinema, awards and recognitions.
- World: countries, leaders, organisations and summits.
- Fundamentals of science and information technology.
What is in the HPU MAT English Language Skills section?
English Language Skills has 50 questions on grammar, vocabulary and reading.
- Grammar and vocabulary: fill in the blanks, synonyms, antonyms, odd one out, sentence correction, meaning of words, idioms and phrases.
- Reading comprehension: read passages and answer multiple-choice questions on them.
What is in the HPU MAT Reasoning and Numerical Skills section?
Reasoning and Numerical Skills has 50 questions that mix logical reasoning and basic maths.
- Reasoning: assertion and reason, cause and effect, assumption, premise and conclusion, critical, analytical and logical reasoning, coding-decoding, family tree, statements and conclusions, statements and assumptions, visual and symbol-based problems.
- Numerical: algebra, LCM and HCF, mean, median and mode, number systems, percentages, profit and loss, interest, time and distance, time and work, mensuration, direction, calendar and series.
- Data interpretation: graphs, charts and tables.
What is in the HPU MAT Business Environment Awareness section?
Business Environment Awareness has 50 questions on the economy, companies and business news.
- World economy, Indian economy, industry, banking and trade.
- Famous business leaders and industrialists, corporate associations, BSE and NSE, company logos and taglines.
- Latest government policies that affect industry, abbreviations of business houses, tie-ups and achievements of Indian and foreign companies.
- Business and economy current affairs.
- Fundamentals of economics, commerce and trade.
What is the HPU MAT 2027 exam pattern and marking?
All four sections carry 50 questions, so each is a quarter of the paper.

How to prepare for HPU MAT 2027?
- Give equal time to all four sections, since each has 50 questions.
- Read a daily newspaper and a business paper for General Knowledge and Business Environment Awareness.
- Practise grammar, vocabulary and one reading passage a day for English.
- Solve timed reasoning and arithmetic sets to build speed.
- Attempt every question in the test, as there is no negative marking.
Useful books include Lucent’s General Knowledge, Wren and Martin’s High School English Grammar and Composition, Word Power Made Easy by Norman Lewis, and R.S. Aggarwal’s Quantitative Aptitude and Verbal and Non-Verbal Reasoning.
