HPU MAT 2026 is the Himachal Pradesh University Management Aptitude Test conducted by the Himachal Pradesh University Business School (HPUBS), Shimla, for admission to the 2-year MBA programme of HPU and H.P. University Regional Centre, Dharamshala. The HPU MAT 2026 question paper consists of 200 multiple-choice questions of one mark each across four sections in a duration of 2 hours, with no negative marking. The exam is conducted in offline mode at eight centres in Himachal Pradesh. Final admission is based on a combined performance in the HPU-MAT, group discussion (GD), personal interview (PI), and application rating. HPU MAT 2026

Himachal Pradesh University Business School, Shimla, conducts the HPU MAT 2026 entrance test to admit candidates to its prestigious MBA programme. Around 3,000 candidates appear for the offline test every year, with HPUBS offering approximately 120 seats (60 subsidised + 60 non-subsidised). Admission is granted on the combined performance in HPU-MAT, Group Discussion, Personal Interview, and Application Rating. Normally, three candidates are called for GD and PI for each seat. HPU MAT is a state-level MBA entrance exam, and candidates with scores in national-level tests such as CAT, XAT, MAT, or CMAT will not be considered – HPU-MAT score is mandatory for HPUBS admission.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Educational Qualification: Bachelor’s degree in any stream from a recognised university with a minimum of 50% aggregate marks (45% for SC / ST / OBC candidates).
  • Final-year students awaiting results are also eligible to apply, provided they submit proof of qualification by the time of admission.
  • Age Limit: Maximum 26 years for boys, 28 years for girls, and 29 years for SC / ST girls (as of the cut-off date). Age limit is not applicable for non-subsidised seats, defence personnel, and nominees of the State / Central Government.
  • Candidates with scores in national-level management tests such as CAT, XAT, MAT, or CMAT are not eligible for admission on the basis of those scores; they must appear for HPU-MAT.

How to Apply for HPU MAT 2026

The HPU MAT 2026 application form is filled online only. Follow these steps:

  1. Visit the admission portal nadmissions.hpushimla.in or the official site hpuniv.ac.in.
  2. Click on the “Apply Online HPU MAT 2026” link and select the MBA programme.
  3. Register with your name, date of birth, email ID, and mobile number. Note down the auto-generated registration number and password.
  4. Log in and fill the application form with personal, academic, and contact details.
  5. Upload the required documents: passport-sized photograph (max 100 KB, JPEG / JPG), signature (max 100 KB, JPG / JPEG), and mark sheet / passing certificate (max 2 MB, PDF).
  6. Choose preferred HPU MAT 2026 exam centre from the available cities.
  7. Pay the application fee of ₹1,000 through net banking, debit card, credit card, or as specified.
  8. Review all details, submit the form, and download the confirmation page / printout for future reference.

Selection Process

Final selection to the MBA programme of HPUBS is based on a combined evaluation, not just the HPU-MAT score alone. The selection process includes:

  1. Management Aptitude Test (HPU-MAT): 200-mark objective paper.
  2. Shortlisting for GD and PI: Normally three candidates per seat are shortlisted based on HPU-MAT performance.
  3. Group Discussion (GD): Conducted at HPUBS, Shimla, to assess communication, reasoning, and leadership.
  4. Personal Interview (PI): Tests subject knowledge, aptitude, clarity of thought, and motivation for the MBA programme.
  5. Application Rating: Marks obtained in qualifying examinations (10th, 12th, Bachelor’s) and any additional credentials are considered.
  6. Final Merit List: Prepared on the cumulative performance in HPU-MAT, GD, PI, and Application Rating.

Subsidised and non-subsidised seats are filled separately; candidates compete within their respective category.

  • Reasoning & Numerical Skills: Assertion & reasons, cause & effect, assumption-premise-conclusion, critical / analytical / logical reasoning, coding-decoding, family tree, statements & conclusions, visual reasoning; algebra, LCM, HCF, statistics, number systems, percentages, profit & loss, interests, time-distance, time-work, data interpretation, mensuration, direction, calendar, series, graphs, charts, tables.
  • Business Environment Awareness: World economy, Indian economy, industry, banking, trade; famous business tycoons & industrialists; BSE & NSE; logos & tag lines; latest government policies affecting industry; business abbreviations; national / international tie-ups; current affairs in business and economy; fundamentals of economics, commerce & trade.
