What is the JEMSCN Syllabus?
The syllabus is the official list of topics from which the question paper is set by WBJEEB. The paper is based on the B.Sc. / Post Basic B.Sc. Nursing curriculum followed across the country. - Physiology: Functions of body systems including cardiovascular, respiratory, digestive, nervous, endocrine, renal, and reproductive.
- Sociology: Social institutions, family, community, social problems, and their impact on health and nursing care.
- Psychology: Human behaviour, learning, motivation, emotion, personality, mental health concepts, and their nursing implications.
- Microbiology: General microbiology, immunology, bacteriology, virology, parasitology, mycology, and infection control.
- Pathology: General pathology, inflammation, neoplasia, cell injury, and pathology of major organ systems.
- Pharmacology: Drug classifications, mechanisms of action, side effects, drug administration, and applied pharmacology in nursing.
- Genetics: Principles of heredity, chromosomal aberrations, genetic disorders, and genetic counselling.
- Nursing Administration: Nursing service organisation, management functions, leadership, supervision, and quality assurance.
- Nursing Education: Teaching-learning process, curriculum development, evaluation, and educational technology.
- Research & Statistics: Research process, research designs, data collection, sampling, descriptive and inferential statistics.

- Foundation of Nursing: Concepts of health and illness, nursing process, fundamentals of patient care, communication, documentation, and basic procedures.
- Medical Surgical Nursing: Care of patients with disorders of cardiovascular, respiratory, gastrointestinal, neurological, musculoskeletal, renal, endocrine, and integumentary systems; perioperative care; oncology nursing; critical care.
- Pediatric Nursing: Growth and development, neonatal care, common paediatric disorders, immunisation, integrated management of childhood illnesses (IMCI), and child welfare.
- Psychiatric Nursing: Mental health concepts, classification of mental disorders, therapeutic communication, psychopharmacology, psychiatric emergencies, and community mental health.
- Obstetrical Nursing: Antenatal, intranatal, and postnatal care, high-risk pregnancy, family planning, gynaecological disorders, and reproductive health.

Part A (40 Q) covers basic medical and nursing sciences: Anatomy, Physiology, Sociology, Psychology, Microbiology, Pathology, Pharmacology, Genetics, Administration, Education, and Research & Statistics. Part B (60 Q) covers core nursing: Foundation of Nursing, Medical Surgical Nursing, Pediatric Nursing, Psychiatric Nursing, Obstetrical Nursing, and Community Health Nursing.
Each correct answer fetches +1 mark and each incorrect answer attracts -1/4 mark (25% negative). Multiple options marked are treated as incorrect. Unattempted questions get zero marks. Total is 100 marks for 100 questions.
Part B carries higher weightage with 60 questions out of 100, while Part A has 40 questions. Candidates should focus more on the core nursing subjects in Part B, which also forms the first tie-breaking criterion.
The Board generally retains the same chapter list year-on-year, with only minor changes if any. Candidates are advised to refer to the latest Information Bulletin on wbjeeb.nic.in/jemscn for the authoritative chapter list for each cycle.
