JoSAA 2020 Important Points for Seat Allocation
The seat allocation for JoSAA will be done keeping in mind some criteria. Let’s check what are the points for that:
- The category of the candidates will be taken into consideration (GEN, GEN EWS, GEN PwD, SC, ST, OBC, OBC – NCL, SC PwD, ST PwD, EWS PwD).
- The position of the candidate in the rank list.
- Order of preference filled by the candidates.
- Availability of seats in different categories / institutes / quotas.
What is Freezing, Floating, Sliding and Withdrawal Options?
Once the registration is done, candidates are done with the process filling the choices then they are required to select certain options for the proper seat allotment.
Freezing – This means that candidates have accepted the offered seat and are satisified with the seat allotment and will not sit for further rounds of seat allotment.
Floating- This means that candidates have accepted the offered seat however, they will consider to sit in further seat allotment rounds if there is a better / preference offered at any institute, they are going to accept that.
Sliding- This option means that candidates have accepted the seat which was offered to them. However, if they find a better / higher preference within the same institute, they will accept the offer and will sit for the further rounds of admission.
Withdrawal- Candidates who have accepted the seat, they can withdraw from the institute up to 6th round of seat allocation. These candidates will not be considered for further rounds of seat allotment.
Mock Seat Allotment
The word ‘mock’ refers to the provisional allotment of seats to the candidates. Candidates are advised to take part in the mock allotment because that will allow the candidates to see what is the process of the allocation of seats and what are different criteria to get a seat in a particular institute.
Candidates can choose as many academic programmes they want and are thinking to pursue that programme. With the mock allotment, candidates can select their preferences in a better way. After the mock allotment, the registration and online choice filling window closes and then the actual allotment rounds take place.
Opening and Closing Ranks
The opening and closing ranks are announced by the institutes before the actual Seat Allotment Process. The ranks are indicated as per the different categories. Candidates are required to match with the opening ranks and closing ranks of the particular institute in which they have to take admission.
In order to take admission in a particular programme of an institute, it is to be seen that candidates match the ranks released by them. However, during the rounds candidates can change their options if they find a better / higher option in the same institute or in a better course.
Reporting at the Centres
The last step to take admission is the reporting at the centres for the Document Verification Round. After the conclusion of the seat allotment and verifying the documents, candidates need to report at the admitted centres to complete the remaining formalities and commence the academic session.
