What is in the NMAT Language Skills section?
Language Skills tests reading, grammar and vocabulary in 36 questions and 28 minutes.
- Reading comprehension: main idea and inference questions on passages
- Para jumbles: arranging sentences into a paragraph
- Error identification and sentence correction
- Vocabulary: synonyms, antonyms and word usage
- Sentence completion and fill in the blanks
What is in the NMAT Quantitative Skills section?
Quantitative Skills covers school-level maths and data questions in 36 questions and 52 minutes, the longest section.
- Arithmetic: percentages, profit and loss, ratio and proportion, time, speed and distance
- Algebra: linear and quadratic equations, inequalities
- Geometry and mensuration
- Number system: HCF, LCM, divisibility, remainders
- Data interpretation: tables, bar graphs, pie charts and line graphs
- Data sufficiency
What is in the NMAT Logical Reasoning section?
Logical Reasoning has 36 questions in 40 minutes on verbal and analytical reasoning.
- Critical reasoning: strengthen or weaken an argument, assumptions
- Syllogisms and statement-conclusion questions
- Coding-decoding and blood relations
- Series and analogies
- Arrangements: linear and circular seating
What is the NMAT 2026 exam pattern and scoring?
NMAT 2026 is a 120-minute computer-adaptive test, and each section is timed on its own.

- There is no negative marking.
- Each section is scored from 12 to 120 and the total from 36 to 360, with equal weight for all three sections.

How should I prepare for NMAT 2026?
Prepare for speed as much as accuracy, because NMAT gives you well under a minute and a half per question in most sections.
- Start with the NMAT by GMAC Official Guide, which has official practice questions and full-length practice tests.
- Take timed, section-wise practice so you get used to the separate time limits.
- Decide your section order in practice tests and keep it on test day.
- Answer every question, since there is no negative marking.
- Plan your retakes: up to two are allowed, but NMIMS counts only your first attempt.
