Who can apply for PPBNET 2027?
You can apply if you hold a GNM (General Nursing and Midwifery) diploma and are registered as a nurse and midwife (RN/RM). Admission follows the Punjab Government notification of 28 August 2021, printed in the 2026 prospectus:
- GNM diploma from a recognised nursing institution, and registration as a Registered Nurse and Midwife (RN/RM) with a State Nursing Council
- Bonafide residence of Punjab; wards of defence personnel posted in Punjab, NRI-category, minority-quota, J&K migrant and some central government employees’ wards are also covered
- At least 35% marks in the entrance test (30% for SC and BC candidates) to be considered on PPBNET merit
- Candidates from other states are considered only from the second round, after Punjab candidates
- NRI and foreign national candidates do not take PPBNET; they apply for NRI seats after getting an eligibility certificate from BFUHS
Students admitted from the 2023-24 batch onwards must also register with the Punjab Nurses Registration Council. Clearing PPBNET does not by itself make you eligible: the college principal checks your documents and eligibility at joining.
BFUHS runs separate tests for other nursing courses: PPMET for B.Sc Nursing and PMNET for M.Sc Nursing.
What is the PPBNET 2027 exam pattern?
PPBNET is a single pen-and-paper paper of multiple-choice questions on General Nursing and Midwifery, set in English. The 2026 prospectus describes it as follows:
- Each question has four options (A to D) with one correct or most correct answer
- Answers are marked on an OMR sheet with the black fine-tip ball pen given at the centre
- There is no negative marking for a wrong answer
- If you skip a question, darken the fifth oval (E); leaving all ovals of a question blank costs you marks
- The prospectus does not state the number of questions or the duration
BFUHS posts the question paper and answer key on its website on the exam day and takes objections through your login; in 2026 objections were open until 29 June. Questions are based on the GNM course, so revise your GNM subjects for the test.
How are Post Basic B.Sc Nursing seats allotted after PPBNET?
BFUHS fills Post Basic B.Sc Nursing seats through online counselling, in order of PPBNET merit and your college and category choices. In 2026 there were two online rounds (July and August), followed by college-level rounds for leftover seats from September.
- Order of priority in 2026: Punjab candidates who qualified PPBNET, then Punjab candidates who appeared but did not qualify, then Punjab candidates on GNM marks, followed by other-state candidates in the same order
- Candidates who did not take PPBNET could apply on the basis of GNM marks for round 2 (11 to 16 August 2026)
- Private colleges: 50% government quota and 50% management quota (35% for Punjab GNM candidates, 15% NRI); government colleges keep 7.5% of seats for NRIs
- State-quota reservation in government colleges includes Scheduled Caste 25%, Backward Classes 10% and persons with disability 5%
- In round 2 your round 1 choices lapse; fill fresh choices only if you want to upgrade or change your seat
Allotment is provisional until the college verifies your original documents and eligibility and you pay the fee online. See the PPBNET result page for the 2026 marks data.
