Section 1: Current Affairs and General Knowledge

This section covers static GK and current affairs from the preceding 12 months. Regular newspaper reading and monthly current affairs magazines are the most effective approach for this section.

  • Current affairs (national and international) — last 12 months
  • Indian history (ancient, medieval, modern)
  • Indian and world geography
  • Indian polity and Indian Constitution basics
  • Indian economy, budget and government schemes
  • Science and technology developments
  • Sports, awards, books and authors
  • State-specific GK about Punjab and Chandigarh

Section 2: Legal Aptitude

This section tests aptitude for legal reasoning rather than pre-existing legal knowledge. The focus is on reasoning with given legal principles applied to fact patterns. Awareness of key constitutional provisions and landmark Supreme Court judgments adds a significant edge.

  • Legal principles and reasoning — applying a given principle to a stated fact pattern
  • Legal terms and definitions (torts, contract, IPC basics, CrPC basics)
  • Indian Constitution — Fundamental Rights, Directive Principles, Fundamental Duties
  • Landmark Supreme Court judgments
  • Indian judiciary structure — Supreme Court, High Courts, subordinate courts
  • Legal awareness and general legal knowledge

Section 3: Reasoning Ability and English

This section tests analytical thinking, pattern recognition and language skills. Regular practice is the key to high accuracy. Speed comes with repeated solving.

  • Reasoning Ability: Analogy, classification, number/alphabet series, coding-decoding, direction sense, blood relations, seating arrangement, syllogism, statement-conclusion, critical reasoning
  • English: Reading comprehension, grammar (tenses, prepositions, articles, subject-verb agreement), vocabulary (synonyms, antonyms, one-word substitution), idioms and phrases, sentence correction and improvement, cloze test
